WGA Nomination: Daytime Serials

Congratulations to James Stanley also! Wrote for Y&R, then got fired, got hired on Army Wives and nominated for the WGA Award! Splendid year, full of stuff happening!

Well that blows that GL was not included then? I would have thought GL over Y&R and Days over AMC. Why is it that Days always seems to be ignored when it comes to these awards?

Because if you exist it doesn't mean you're getting nominated. There are rules and procedures.

I didn't realize he was fired. Good for him though. I realize writing a weekly show is much different but congrads to him. I actually enjoy Army Wives and it's a well written show(not fan-fabulous) with some really good acting IMO. Good for him for getting nominated for that too.

He was actually one of the few very good LML era writers too, and the one MAB kept on along with the HORRIBLE Scott Hamner for a long time.

Only for Y&R nominated. Army Wives also hired two SATC writers I liked, but that didn't last long. Sadly.

And he and his wife are actually more primetime people than daytime.

Yes, he was. I think people liked him and his wife Diane (who also writes for Army Wives).

Ok I still don't get how they determine the nominees. Do all the shows need to submit scripts that get reviewed for nomination? Am I understanding that correctly?

Yes, well, you submit scripts, preliminary judges judge, you get or don't get nominated and then the special panel decides to whom the award goes.

I'm not sure, but I think that even your agent can submit a script.

So did GL submit and not get recognized or did no one for the show bother to submit? What's the verdict?

Probably the latter. But who knows.

OLTL will probably win--and deservedly so in my opinion--for their writing of the gay storyline that included gay marriage, hate crime attacks, coming out, and which treated all the material as if it was just another story. Hats off to OLTL for willing to do what ATWT, GL, Y&R and the laughable GH in 2006 were afraid to.

With the nominees they seem to be the obvious choice here. I would actually have preferred seeing Days nominated and win but that's based on personal preference not necessary quality of writing.
