December 14, 200916 yr Author Member What timeframe is this award for? Something like late 2008 to late 2009, given the names that are up for the award. I don't know the specific time frame for eligibility period though. Oct 1, 2008 and Sep 30, 2009. Thanks!
December 14, 200916 yr Member Thanks! Congratulations to James Stanley also! Wrote for Y&R, then got fired, got hired on Army Wives and nominated for the WGA Award! Splendid year, full of stuff happening!
December 14, 200916 yr Member Oct 1, 2008 and Sep 30, 2009. Well that blows that GL was not included then? I would have thought GL over Y&R and Days over AMC. Why is it that Days always seems to be ignored when it comes to these awards? Edited December 14, 200916 yr by JaneAusten
December 14, 200916 yr Member Well that blows that GL was not included then? Because if you exist it doesn't mean you're getting nominated. There are rules and procedures.
December 14, 200916 yr Member From the rule book: Nominations will be based on outstanding achievement. If no script in a category is deemed outstanding, no nomination or award will be made. If there are insufficient entries in any category, those entries may be placed in another category. The preliminary judging will be by panels of volunteer Guild members. Scripts will be coded and anonymity maintained. The final judging will be by special panels of Guild members selected for their prominence in the particular fields of competition. I didn't realize he was fired. Good for him though. I realize writing a weekly show is much different but congrads to him. I actually enjoy Army Wives and it's a well written show(not fan-fabulous) with some really good acting IMO. Good for him for getting nominated for that too.

Army Wives also hired two SATC writers I liked, but that didn't last long. Sadly. And he and his wife are actually more primetime people than daytime. He was actually one of the few very good LML era writers too, and the one MAB kept on along with the HORRIBLE Scott Hamner for a long time. Yes, he was. I think people liked him and his wife Diane (who also writes for Army Wives).
December 14, 200916 yr Member From the rule book: Ok I still don't get how they determine the nominees. Do all the shows need to submit scripts that get reviewed for nomination? Am I understanding that correctly?
December 14, 200916 yr Member Forgot to add that great representation is everything! James & Diane are William Morris.
December 15, 200916 yr Member Ok I still don't get how they determine the nominees. Do all the shows need to submit scripts that get reviewed for nomination? Am I understanding that correctly? Yes, well, you submit scripts, preliminary judges judge, you get or don't get nominated and then the special panel decides to whom the award goes. I'm not sure, but I think that even your agent can submit a script.

December 15, 200916 yr Member OLTL will probably win--and deservedly so in my opinion--for their writing of the gay storyline that included gay marriage, hate crime attacks, coming out, and which treated all the material as if it was just another story. Hats off to OLTL for willing to do what ATWT, GL, Y&R and the laughable GH in 2006 were afraid to.

I would actually have preferred seeing Days nominated and win but that's based on personal preference not necessary quality of writing.
