"What Ken and I both agree on is that Jim is the right guy to be the creative leader overseeing the next wave of stories for Days. We saw in Jim someone who had a proven track record, and we wanted to bring him back."--Former NBC Daytime President Sheraton Kalouria on JER's 2003 return.

Going hand-in-hand with that is Corday's unrealistic goal in 2003: "Our ultimate goal is to try to pull this industry up and reach a 4.0 or 5.0, the ratings we were getting in the early and mid 90's when Jim was writing the show before."

Dare to dream!

Not that I can explain why GH hasn't bled more viewers. I can't. People are obviously very patient. Or something.

But GH has lost more viewers from last year around 10% which is more than any other soap. The demos declined and have only recently stabilized at a lower number. It has taken awhile, but GH is starting to circle the drain ratings wise. In contrast, Y&R has lost some overall viewers, but its demos have held firm.

I don't think that quality equals ratings, but I do think that a soap like any other tv show can drive away its few viewers faster with bad storytelling.

Sheffer's quotes early in his ATWT run made it impossible for me to ever trust him as headwriter. From the open contempt he had towards the vets, and ingenues, but the "men with balls" is what I still cringe at. He derided Tom Hughes as an example of that. Soon enough his vision of "men with balls" would be rapists and sociopathic sluts.

I was looking at We Love Soaps flashback and found an article about Hogan Sheffer. Haven't read all of it, but from what I've read so far, Hogan loves his dicks.

In the end, Sheffer decided, soaps were all about plot.

And that, right there, is the main problem w/ Mr. Sheffer.
