I think they kept her around as long as they did because they knew none of the others would be able to sell the story. What bothered me is they repeatedly had characters say Traci probably wouldn't be back, which is basically telling viewers, "Say goodbye to Traci." There's no reason why Traci has to stay away, never to return. There's no reason why they had to kill off her daughter. Her work in this story has been phenomenal and her reward is to never return? I did like what they gave her but it's sad that the standard is now so low, I just have to appreciate she left alive.

I won't be surprised if they still get rid of MTS, or don't use her very much. Ashley still loves Victor and usually, she gets over his bad behavior. I'm sure as soon as Adam is revealed, she will go back to Victor.

Carl... it's just the opposite. The writers were sending a message in today's dialogue... Ashley was saying that she might not want to come back.... but Jack said, "Yeah... she'll be back". that was foreshadowing, dear. She'll be back I'm sure. That reminds me, I need to email Beth.

Our track record on predicting what is good and reasonable has not been so good lately  .

Truth is, they have only brought Traci back for "events" for some time now. This visit was different because it was longer and much more emotional.

I think we're back to where we were...sporadic, brief appearances. She will be back...but never again as a contracted regular on the front burner or even in a strong supporting role.

And, to be clear, this is a decision that was made long ago. Who first ditched her (i.e., took her off contract)? Wasn't it William Bell himself?

Beth Maitland first left when her first contract expired.I think she was still married to Brad, but Traci decided to pursue her career.

She returned a year later(87,I think) and stayed around for another 6 years.

Yes,it was Bill Bell that wrote Traci off at that time. She has been recurring ever since.

But that was before John Abbott was killed off and the Abbot's lost their emotional core. Traci is the only one in the family suitable to take his stabilizing presence, IMO. Traci is needed more than ever now.

Though, it's probably better she's away from the show with this writing regime. We wouldn't want to see her raped, killed, or constantly victimized.

    • Yes Daphne left in the May 26 episode
    • Haha, I get it. I was too old when Halloweentown was popular with the kids, but I did go back and watch the first two about 6-7 years ago and actually thought Marnie was a likable lead and she was pretty good, for a movie like that. But now watching GL and seeing her as a young child, I totally get what you're saying. She's annoying haha.
    • I feel bad for judging a child, but, to be fair, she's over 40 now. My daughter was into Halloweentown when it reran on the Disney Channel in the 2010s. I wasn't impressed then, either.
    • Isn't that funny how certain memories as young children stick with you through life... Haha I totally get what you mean. That's how I felt with GL in the beginning, but then I got used to it. Seeing so many of my favorite AMC characters on GL was wild - Walker, Irizarry, Dusay, Budig, Aleksander, Gil Rogers, etc.  Ironically, it helps that Irizarry and Dusay played both mother/son in both shows. I know Marcy Walker was wasted on GL as Tangie, but selfishly I'm so glad she was. When she left GL and returned immediately to AMC as Liza Colby, man was it such a great storyline. The Tad/Dixie/Liza triangle was so emotional, tense and memorable. The AMC fans got lucky with that one. WRCW, Tad/Liza working together, the affair, then Jason Sheffield and the shooting on-set... all amazing stuff.   LOL!
    • I remember thinking that he was fantastic after Reva's 1990 "death," with his grief and attempted relationship with Harley. I also remember the cute Marah, not the toothy chick from Halloweentown.
    • Totally agree - we have much to learn about Vernon, and I'd love to see it.
    • I've enjoyed Vernon but I wouldn't be opposed to learning more about his life beyond his political work. What kind of family does he come from? Does he have any siblings? I feel like that could be an interesting thing to look at.

    • I've always said, Robert Newman does not get enough credit for the popularity of Josh/Reva. Had he stayed in '91, and had years to build other relationships before Kim returned, I'm not sure we'd have been stuck with "always".
    • Bizarrely, while I didn't see it, I distinctly remember my younger sister telling me. We were walking to the store, and at the top of the hill she let out "Roger raped Holly", and I swear I remember it echoing for what seemed like forever. She would've been five at the time.  I know,,,which I find extraordinary. I have toyed with the idea of watching Another World for Maeve, Kathleen Widdoes and Beverlee. But watching Vanessa call Emma Snyder "momma" kinda weirded me out. LOL. I believe that's what I read in the recaps from the time as well. I meant, I couldn't quite believe that the audience wouldn't understand that a woman preparing to go to her engagement party  was raped. I know that on ATWT John raped Kim while they were married, resulting in Andy, but I think they shied away from calling that marital rape.
