Yes!!!!!!!! "JR Returns" was a GREAT movie, and ever since I first saw it, I've hoped for some type of Next Generation series for the show. Truly awesome.

John Ross was born at the end of the first real season, so he should be about 30 years old, so this could totally work. I just hope they keep the spirit of the original.

Campy and misogynistic?

I always thought Dallas was too much from the male perspective; I much preferred Knot's Landing for that reason.

I kind of wish they'd let this lie in the "classics" bin, but if they do give us a decent "next generation", it might work. But are these next generation things (90210, Melrose) really working on a creative level? I'm asking sincerely, because I never really watched 90210/Melrose in their first incarnations.

People! There's no apostrophe in KNOTS LANDING!

Sylph, you naughty boy, I was about to come and post this. Myself, I think this might work... who knows? I will definitely be watching if it's picked up.

Not really. The show, in its early years, merely depicted misogyny in a world and with characters where it was more or less expected.

Later on, though, yes... the producers' feelings towards women took precedence and it became... well....

I would definitely watch this before I'd watch 90210 or MP and when those shows were resuscitated I wondered if it was too late for the '80s shows. Aaron Spelling said he could never do Dynasty without Blake, Krystle, and Alexis, but Aaron's gone now and if Dallas is a go, makes ya wonder...

But with all of that talk and no action re: a Dallas remake movie, I'd MUCH rather watch this than John Travolta and J-Lo as J.R. and Sue Ellen.

And can I just add, women will watch a soap opera regardless, but cowboys on horses swiggin' bourbon and branch and screwing chicks on the side in Dallas hotel rooms or underage girls in haylofts is the kind of stuff that'll get hubby to watch too. The Sopranos was for all intents and purposes the Dallas of its generation, I don't think a *little* misogyny ever hurt. :P

I read this the other day and I am excited about it. I hope TNT picks up. I've always wondered why they didnt do Dallas: The Next Generation a long time ago. I wonder if they will get Omri Kratz to play John Ross??

I can't wait!!

Are you talking about James Beaumont?? The Sasha Mitchell character?? I don't remember..but I think I blocked it out of my memory...lol..but didnt JR have a child with awful Callie??

I do hope they get Omri Katz to play John Ross. He hasnt had much to do since Dallas ended. He has turned into a hot 30's something guy...hehe..I hear rumors that he might be gay too...hehe

I saw this last week. I just can't see it being as good as the original's first four or five years. There is no Jock figure, no extended family sitting down to dinner together to please their mother and her old school ways, so much has changed, and that doesn't even factor in the casual boozing the entire family did on a daily basis.

I guess they could set up JR and Sue Ellen as the parents, have Jon Ross assume the JR role, but Christopher is only a cousin, and that is a lot different than a brother when it comes to battling daily. Anyway, Dallas was the king of all soaps so I hope this comes out just to see what they are up to. The first few seasons of Dallas was some of the best soap opera ever. But who is going to invoke "I AM Tokopa!" ?

(That line for some reason has stuck with me all these years more than maybe any other line of dialogue ever uttered on Dallas)

Yes, James and Cally sent JR to the funny farm in the next to the last season cliffhanger.

I liked Chris Demetral as Christopher but I doubt he will be back. I wonder if Hagman and Gray will push to get Omri back as John Ross?? I hope if they bring back James it isnt Sasha in the role. I hope Victoria Principal makes an appearance too.

I don't watch the new 90210 or Melrose either, so don't know, but that's really comparing apples to oranges anyway. The original Dallas was not very much like the original 90210.

There's no reason why a "next generation" thing for Dallas can't work as a concept. Family rivalries, oil/energy issues, corporate intrigue and scandal, themes like that withstand the test of time. The goal shouldn't be to replicate the original, but to use it as a springboard for something that has key qualities of the original but is relevant to today.

Degrassi is a great example of a TNG equaling or even surpassing its already awesome original. But it helps that creator Linda Schuyler is still there. Much as it probably helped that Gene Roddenberry helped with Star Trek: TNG. But again, apples and oranges.

    • Breakdown writers can pitch stories and obviously they have influence over what is included in the breakdown but MVJ is the final decision maker. It depends on the faith you have in MVJ if you feel Carlivati is going to be a problem. I don't think a throwaway having a book author named after him is a sign he's taken over the show. Most people didn't even catch the reference.
    • Tamara Tunie reading that damn letter is exactly why I wish this show had more experienced actors.

    • Oh wow. After reading your post, I realized that they had "Carl Ivati" in the script AGAIN yesterday June 6.    Eva said she was reading his latest, and Tomas said "Work's been so busy, I haven't had time to get into his new series". Then Eva proceeds to tell him that "the first book is called 'Mercy and Goodness' and it's all about how the couple first met and how they got separated".   She goes on and on about how great it is. And she says she has the book in her hotel room if he wants to borrow it. She says it has twists and turns. And meanwhile Kat is snooping in Eva's room to look for the helmet and gloves, and finds the book and dismisses it as "basic". I saw that whole scene -- but I wasn't paying attention to the name of the author.  And when Tomas said the name, I heard it in his accent so I didn't hear "carlivati".  II was mainly trying to see if the acting had improved with the actor playing Tomas, and I think he has improved somewhat.   I only see it when typed out. So they had several scenes yesterday about a "Carl Ivati" book?  Barf! Well at least Kat had the good sense to dismiss it as "basic". Ron Carlivati wrote the breakdown yesterday!   Featuring himself in it! Addressing to the collective "you" whoever you may be: Some of you, months ago, said Oh Ron is only doing breakdowns.  The story comes from MVJ, so he won't influence things, you said. May 27 started it, with Christopher Dunn breakdown and Lynn Martin script. But they didn't need to continue it June 6 with Carlivati breakdown and Jazmen Darnell Brown script.
    • I was completely lost. But it is wonderful that it exists. I didn't really know Robert Mandan had done soaps...well, besides SOAP.
    • Jack and Jennifer are tired. I just don't care about them when they return. They add nothing to the show.
    • Did they really bring back Jack and Jennifer for Jack to prop up Leo and Jenn to serve as an obstacle to Chad/Cat? Are we sure Ron still isn't in the building?
    • We can only hope that they finally kill off Leo too
    • We can only hope that maybe the new writers might read this.
