April 8, 201114 yr Author Member Interesting. Did it give any details as to whether a network was interested/involved? Wasn't Rita on ATWT at this time?
April 8, 201114 yr Member It just said they were trying for networks, none mentioned. I'm sorry that was a typo. This was March 1972. So this was when Rita had been written out of ATWT.
April 9, 201114 yr Member Apparently David Gadberry has a Youtube channel, although I still didn't see any scenes in my quick look through. There's one that an anchorman talks over, and this behind the scenes: Thanks For Sharing. That May Have Been Good Series? Who Knows

April 12, 201114 yr Member November 1972 Daytime TV - ABC was considering making the movie they'd aired in the daytime, Honeymoon Suite (starring Rose Marie and Henry Gibson) into a daily daytime serial.
April 12, 201114 yr Author Member Honeymoon Suite aired at 1.30 pm Wed July 26th 1972. It was originally presented as a proposed serial but Michael Eisner, then head of ABC daytime instead asked for a 90 min movie to get a clearer idea of how the concept might work. ABC were also mulling presenting occasional daytime TV movies if HS took off. If it went to series, the show would deal with the guests staying in the honeymoon suite and be told in a day, a week or longer if necessary.the two contunuing characters would be a maid and bellboy played by Rose Marie (her usual wise cracking persona)and Henry Gibson A third character, a prissy hotel manager would be added if it went to series. .Stories would be told from a woman's point of view and mix comedy with warmer moments. Douglas Cramer and W.L "Bud' Baumes were creators/exec producers for Columbia/Screen Gems The 90 min show had 2 stories 'Maiden Voyage' - dealing with a nevous young couple with no sexual knowledge or experience and 'Golden Wedding' about a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary and realising they know little about each other. There were 8 days of rehearsal and 2 days of taping. Cast included Gloria DeHaven, Arthur O'Connell, Martha Scott, June and Anne Lockhart, John Fink, Brad David and Dianne Hull. Another proposed anthology for ABCfrom the same team was 'Courtroom',with 2 lawyers as regulars in a series that dramatized court cases. Edited April 12, 201114 yr by Paul Raven
April 12, 201114 yr Member Wow, these are incredible details! Did you already post this? I looked but didn't see anything. This fills in a lot of blanks. I wonder if this is still out there to see or if it's lost. I kind of wish they'd tried a series - it seems like after the 50s they gave up on anthology shows in daytime (unless you count Divorce Court or the first year of The Doctors).
April 12, 201114 yr Author Member Apparently at least one other Honeymoon Suite played in late night in 1973. So ABC seemed keen on the idea at some point, but maybe the daytime ratings weren't good.

April 15, 201114 yr Member February 1971 Daytime TV - Paramount TV is planning a new serial, Wanda's World, about black and white families living next door to each other. It was to air on NBC. National General Corp. planned for a series of comedies called The Married Youngs (nothing to do with The Young Marrieds).
