I'm of two minds on this issue.

I really liked Nadine.  I thought she was unique and had a ton of potential.

But, it is also thrilling when a central, beloved character is the victim of murder.  We hear so many complaints about serial murder stories on soaps, where they only kill off side characters.  So, a story has some real gravitas, and long-lasting consequences when they bump off someone from a core family.  As much as I missed them, and hope the actor gets work elsewhere, it is so shocking when it happens that it is often worth it.

Like, when Drew Barrymore is killed in Scream, it pulls the rug out, and gives you the excitement that anything is possible.  Especially in a genre where plots are often foreshadowed weeks in advance.

With Nadine's murder, I'm always stuck on the plot holes. For one, they really believed Nadine left town without telling anyone right after they wrongly received the news that Lucy's hiv test was positive? What happened to her car, clothes and other belongings? And Brent really left his door unlocked which is how she walked in?

I think his name was Carroll. IIRC he left town before McTavish arrived, but I'm not sure.

Thanks. There was something, but not good enough.

I did like Nadine predicting her own murder, and the pitiful, "It was me," as the candlestick or whatever it was came crashing down.

They did a good job getting the thriller stakes right with the deaths of Nadine and Cutter. They were genuinely disturbing. One of the few stories on soaps along these lines that I found to be chilling.

The problem I had with that twist goes back to something I learned as a kid: psychics don't usually have premonitions of their own deaths.  (I mean, I could be wrong, but that's what I was told once, lol).  So, when it happened to Nadine, I guess I couldn't suspend disbelief enough to enjoy the irony.

Just as it seemed Reva had developed psychic abilities solely to find out who killed Eva Galli Annabelle's mom Maryanne Caruthers.  I mean, I don't THINK that was the intent, but that's how it turned out, lol.

Actually, she was psychic before during the JFP era..I think it was when GhostReva was floating around and she felt her. It was just a gimmick to give another Cooper something to do, but with Nadine they could have made her the Aunt Clara of psychics, always getting some detail wrong and everyone rolling their eyes at her latest

Everyone knew her..Josh, as she was married to Billy, Ed, Holly (she had a talk show at WSPR) Alex, Bridget (I hated the attic hiding the baby thing, but I loved the Bridget/Nadine relationship where Bridget always insulted her clothes ) Vanessa (though there was history there.) When they brought Buzz on they severed all of that to have Nadine stuck at the diner, chasing after Buzz or listening to that dullard Lucy.

Yes, I'm sure they would've scraped up people to go to the funeral, but other than Bridget and Frank, was Nadine really close to anyone? I shudder to think of Vanessa having to speak some BS about how "misunderstood" Nadine was in life.  Nadine was "that" person---the one who wears out their welcome quickly and people end up avoiding at all costs.

Wow...and I thought that I really didn't like Nadine!  I think that a small family service would be good, with a couple of other people like Bridget there...Vanessa would go cause she would feel she "had" to as in some strange way Peter got to her through Nadine, Ross would go as he used to schtump her...(who didn't he thought, except Reva (that God) Alex (she laid a kiss on him though) and Maureen.?)  Just having everyone think she left town would be weird, even Nadine would have to get in contact with her kids once in a while.

I thought that Nadine and Nola would be kind of fun, in an Ab Fab kind of way, with Nola being able to talk her into some of her schemes..."Here Nadine, put this wig on, your going disguised as a maid to get into Alan's study...."but other then goofiness there was nothing more for her to do...and I was over her pining over Buzzard!

It's more than my not caring for Nadine, though.  It's like not everyone in Y&R's Genoa City knowing for years that John Abbott wasn't Ashley's biological father.  Sometimes, in life, things happen (like a person "disappearing" because they've been murdered) that not everyone in town is privy to.  And you have to remember: Nadine was an absentee mom for much of Frank and Harley's lives. They'd be disappointed at the thought of their mom turning tail and running again, but they'd also assume that Nadine had just reverted to her old ways.

    • Aww, yeah it's very heartbreaking and I mostly enjoyed the Nola/Vanessa scenes because they finally let their walls down and came together in a beautiful moment. So Nola was at the hospital already and bumped into Vanessa, who had MRI papers that fell out of her hand and Nola went down to pick them up and asked her what was going on. Later, Vanessa confided in her about her disease. Then, Nola told Zachary on the beach (he prodded her and already alluded to knowing something was going on with Van), and then Vanessa found out she told him and got a little upset. Now, however, Nola is strangely absent while everyone is mourning her death. I'm curious if Nola will actually tell people about her MRI results. I would assume so. Only Nola, Rick, Roger and Zachary know anything, although there is the MRI results letter from the mail that everyone has missed seeing at home. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point. But... I just saw the next episode and the opening already cut Vanessa out and added Dahlia and Zachary. I guess Maeve is gone for a long time

That will break my heart seeing the town continue to mourn her and assume she's dead. I can't wait to see her return though, and I have to imagine feelings will be torn between loving that she's alive and being very angry she did all of this. While I hate what Vanessa is doing, I'm happy to hear it's not totally against her character. I think you're right, had Henry still been around, she wouldn't put him through this. I'm still surprised she is with Bill, though. I get her feelings on Matt, because she wants him to move on, but still very heartbreaking. I'm glad this was Maeve's choice to have a break vs. being fired.    Interesting, so I'm curious to see who they eventually pair Phillip with. They're flirting with a Phillip/Annie pairing, but I'm not sure if they'll go that route with the Jeva drama, her growing pill addiction, and Rick's past with her.  Ugh, yeah I'm so sad to see Bridget do a total 180 in the last couple weeks. She has always been a strong character from what I've seen, but now she's just bending over backwards to get Hart to love her and it reeks of desperation. Yeah, sure, this new Hart is eye candy, but I'm already tired of seeing Hart/Dinah have sex all over Springfield and the Cayman Islands haha.
    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
    • Beverlee was on a whole other level from Kim. It's not like they were in competition with each other. I get the feeling that Kim had a slight problem with the super-professional, serious cast members who just wanted everyone to be prepared and do the work, as she seems to like having fun on set. (She's made a few cracks about Chris Bernau being like that). Bev was definitely one of those. But they didn't work together that much. Yeah, they made her manic and also much weaker. She always had a vulnerability, but wanting to kill herself over that guy? No way. Not only that, he didn't leave her! She insisted he marry Maeve. When they did the tribute to Bert/Charita, the compilation of scenes with her showed how much the cast had been almost totally turned over in a relatively short period of time. Nearly every shot was of her by herself because most people she had worked with had been fired, left or been replaced. I assume they couldn't show her with people who hadn't been replaced, like Don Stewart, Elvera Roussel, or Robert Newman because they would have had to pay them for using their clips. It's dreadful to watch. Like she had no connection to the current show.
