Speaking about Buzz, I still remember this one scene between him and Tangie and Marcy literally put a finger in her ear, like his bellowing was way too much!  LOL

Do you guys think after the Blake having twins by two different dads was their 'Jump The Shark' moment and they kept having to go over the top after that? Not well, thought out stories?

LOL..I wonder how Walker and Deas got along..when being interviewed by Logan, when we were still at the stage where soap press were practically blowing him...Logan goes on and on about Deas just "going out there and doing it and everyone else had to catch up" and Walker says, "Well, that could also be self-indulgent in an actor" which I think was the most realistic thing I every read about Deas time on GL at that point.

I think the twins was not only a jump the shark but it hurt all characters involved for the rest of their time on the show. First they played it for laughs (or isnt it funny that Rick is screwing the woman he thought was his sister, and is now the wife of his dad's best friend who has been like an uncle to him) they made Ross a sap, Blake a dumb slut, Rick an ahole, and it was, in the words of Abby, "Just GROSS!"  Then they really tied Ross and more Blake down to be a mom of twins, which limited her storylines and she just had to keep repeating screw ups. Terrible idea.

LOL at the Walker/Deas drama!  I do have to wonder which actors/actresses liked working with Deas and hated working with him. I'd have to imagine there weren't many people in the middle.

I can just imagine Bev having to work with him and what she would do ( I imagine an icy stare at his antics.) I remember a scene where he is at the Bauers for Thanksgiving, and Selena had run off, and Deas was getting into the windmill arms and spitting and Mary Stuart as Meta just gave him a glare as Meta says, "Dont you start with ME, Buzz Cooper!" and Deas seemed to stop in his tracks more then the direction told him to do. We needed more of Aunt Meta ringing Buzz's beads! "Now Buzz, I did NOT invite you over to have you spit all over my counters!"

@Mitch64 I would think Rick being a Doctor would have him care more about STDs and someone becoming pregnant.  Heck, his ex wife doing basically the same thing (but for the twins thing) with Phillip should have gave him pause.

Yeah, Blake just came off so stupid to me.

@Contessa Donatella  I agree that the Brent/Marian thing wasn't thought out. I skipped so many things with it.  I never cared that much for Lucy and I hate when they use rape to elevate  a charater

LOL and I loved both the Blake's babies and Brent/Marian storylines. To my defense though, I haven't seen GL before those years, so as two of the bigger storylines I was introduced to, I loved them! :P

IMO,  Jump the Shark storylines end up not being thought out.  The writers ended up making Ross the father of both twins anyway. The twins brought nothing to character development, IMO. Blake using Annie to help her and then balk when Annie wants Blake to help her was another thing that made no sense to me.

The whole Brent/Marian storyline wasn't a well thought out mystery to me.  We all knew Marian was Brent pretending to be a woman.  Where was the suspense?  Just made people look stupid for not being able to tell to me.

These storylines should be creating and destroying relationships, shaping the characters for learning lifelong lessons. To me, it regressed character development.

Well thought out storylines were the Chelsea/Johnny being stalked storyline (I could care less about Chelsea, but it was well thought out), the Beth Isn't Dead storyline that started in '89 and ended in '90 (Blake was married to Phillip at the time) and caused a ton of storylines from that alone. In the 79/80, the storyline from Roger raping Holly with Roger making Alan help fake his death, because he had proof that Alan created two affidavits in Alan's bid for custody for Phillip.  That storyline is why Alan hates Roger and thus why he hated Blake/Christina from the start.

One difference: twins by two different fathers, a story of sexual activity, whereas Brent/Marian Nadine was murdered. No death was required for one story.  And, agree, I totally hate the use of rape as if it is a viable plot point or story element. Plus, we know soaps have overused it.

Unpopular opinion, but I actually liked the character of Chelsea.. and even liked her relationship with Phillip.  They had an interesting rapport that I wish the show had made better use of instead of just breaking them up and throwing him randomly into Blake's orbit while her character kind of stagnated once she was paired with Johnny.

When she finally left town in January 1991, it was time for her character to venture away from Springfield since she was single and the only prospects the show seemed interested in trying with her were either Frank or Fletcher.

I do think the 2 fathers thing was a good twist to the 'who is the father' troupe, but it being Rick made no sense to me. Then the fallout from it was wrapped up way too quickly and Ross ended up being the Dad to both anyway.

@Soaplover Fletcher and Chelsea never made any sense.  After what happened with Dana, I wouldn't pair her with Frank either.

I think the pairing of Blake/Christina and Phillip made a lot of sense. The Beth Is Alive storyline was very well done and there really wasn't much storyline for a relationship with Chelsea.

LOL at Bev & the kind of look only she could give aimed at Buzz, a trifling individual if ever there were one in Springfield!

Regarding Alex:   I agree 100% with MLN on this topic, and have stated already that Bev was mistaken in her opinion that "Alex" was a victim of character assassination.  Given, the chance, i would have told McKinsey so.

That said, upon the dissolution of Nick and Mindy (Simms), Alex left town "for a little while. not forever" to "think about things" and "find herself".  I thought that was a great way to backburner Alex while McKinsey took her six-week vacation (which we all know she quit the show).

Had McKinsey stayed on, a great way for her to "find herself" would be to learn upon her return that that she would soon become a grandmother, either via Mindy or Eve.  Either as mother to Alexandra's grandchild would have worked well.  Lots of opportunity for Alex to grow/adapt/find herself in a situation like that.

And by the way, what do we know about Alexandra and Alan's mother?  We know some things about Brandon, but what about her?

Regarding the Blake/two twins story....one of the two should have died as a tot.  Whether it was Rick's or Ross', it would've made for some rough drama.

@Speed Racer  I guess Mindy having babies was out of the storyline for her.  I do think Nick should have been with Eve over Mindy though (unpopular opinion).  Their backstory could have created some great storylines for them.

Mindy never needed to come back, IMO.

I do have a question.  Who did Mindy see at the train station?

I wanted to add that I never bought that Mindy was in New York and Roger helped pay for it and no one could find her.

I can see what McKinsey meant about character assassination. It did feel that Alex had lost IQ points and that a lot of the scenes she did were meant to humiliate her character--something Simms brought up in one of the Locher interviews. When Dusay came on, they had no idea how to write Alex. Alex's sole focus became Mindy/Nick. McKinsey sold what she was given, but she deserved better so did Simms.

I'm pretty sure Mindy was supposed to have seen Roger at the train station, but that made no sense as he was at the Towers all night. I'm not sure they ever directly addressed it on screen, though, other than saying that Roger had helped her get out of town. Mindy wasn't only in NY, she hid out with old friends around the country. The last friend she stayed with was in NYC, and that's where Dylan found her.

I'd have been fine with Nick and Eve---provided they left town.
