I have a feeling P&G is only "testing" this method again to advertise for Tide and Febreze (which are nauseatingly present in eps). If it fails to improve sales of these products specifically, I think P&G will be out sooner than later.

You'd think in the past 20 years (since they did it on ATWT and GL) they'd have gotten better at it. I can still remember those awkward talks about Margo and her roots. RME.

I broke down Elizabeth Hubbard losses in the As the World Turns thread but I think she had the same issues as Susan Lucci, the submissions were not so great.

I'll check it out, but I'm biased, as Liz is one of those actresses that never hit a false note.

*sigh* Poor Emma, forced to use a commercially grown turkey.

I'm a newbie, have watched from the early 70s eps I could find to 1994.

My q is - does this new Alex and new Alan stuff get any better? They are dragging out his return and it's a) super boring and b) really a drag compared to earlier GL.

I'm ff a lot but man it's a slog. All the storylines. I'm on Sept 1994.

Well, hello & welcome. I will tell you something about myself. I do not FF. By intent, I never do. I just never got in the habit of doing so. If you routinely FF you are going to miss something. It might be something that would change your mind. Soaps were never meant to be consumed this way. They need to be watched every day, for the whole show. This is my opinion, of course.

Who is playing Alexandra where you are? Marj Dusay? Did you watch when Beverlee McKinsey played Alexandra?

Yeah I watched all the eps online I could find from late 70s to 1994. All I can say is it's a pale shadow of what it was. Tough to stick with it, I don't really like any of the stories at this point. I know soaps have peaks and valleys so I'm trying to give it a chance but this has been a loooooong valley.

Haha this is how I feel. My grandma would FF her soaps when she wasn't interested. Granted, she was watching 3 shows a day, so I get it. But for me, I hate missing anything even if I'm not thoroughly enjoying some of it.

I personally really enjoyed 1995. There will be new characters and storylines that I thought were very entertaining (Dinah's return, Brent/Marion's reign of terror, etc). But once you get to 1996, I have a feeling you wouldn't enjoy it again.

re: Zimmer, Lucci and the Emmys. Lucci not winning at the Emmys did make the Daytime Emmys a media event. It's just maddening when you watch what she submitted and you know the actresses who were left off. A lot of her scenes/episodes are downright laughable. And to pretend that her material/acting is in the same league as Zimmer, Hubbard, Walker, Hall, Spencer, Strasser, etc. is insulting.

Zimmer and the pay cut: These are the same people (CBS and P&G) who had a meltdown when McKinsey left even though she fulfilled her contract. The same people who fired Zaslow. Zimmer had every right to react the way she did, and they used the media to smear her. Yes, the media did partly blame Zimmer for casting changes and problems with the shows.

I love Marj Dusay, but the Alex/Alan dynamic left the building with Beverlee.

Yeah I'm an SB fan, so I like Marj but it's just not the same. Also I think the writing is bad and I hate Nick lol.

I'm mildly interested in Matt and Vanessa.

@alwaysAMC I'm not sure about Dinah, but I'm hoping maybe I'll.enjoy the Brent story and Annie.

I have seen some when Harley was with Gus but that was much later, not sure when. Then I went back to early eps, a tally I think I went back to the 50s. Peggy and Johnny? Can't remember anymore. The clip of Hope Bauer being born

And, the soap press gave KZ a pass much more often than anything in any kind of attack mode. But, when they would finally step up to the plate the things they did nail her for, she most suitable deserved. And if you don't agree I can only refer you to the many episodes where this is amply illustrated.

You are me back then...

I do think they all get better in 1995 (well, Nick and Alex), but that's not saying a lot.

I was shocked rewatching. In the scenes where he's found Vanessa in Switzerland, it is painfully obvious he's having trouble with his words.

It was very difficult to watch as we had no idea what was going on. I remember fans would be happier some days if he sounded "better," but there was a marked decline. In all my years of watching soaps nothing I've rarely seen that situation as a viewer. And then when we found out, everyone was heartbroken and fully supportive. I never saw a fan who said Zaslow should be let go (the most I saw was later on some fans who tried to go along with Dennis Parlato, although it was clear that wasn't going to work out). P&G, however, did not agree.

The only one that comes close for me is Benjamin Hendrickson. He just doesn't look well the last year of his life.

It was convenient for the network for the same reason people are re-litigating her book, frankly. Zimmer has always been an outsize, oversharing and at times obnoxious personality, with the soap press, in her book, everywhere. But she always gave 200% onscreen even when Rauch's Reva drove me up the wall, and I at least respected that even when I often found her unwatchable in a certain era. I respected her much more when I saw her classic work, and the work she put out with zero glamour and trappings or seemingly any vanity in Peapack. Or her work on OLTL.

They knew some people would believe anything of Zimmer based on how much she shoots her mouth off - 'Kim Zimmer's greed got Jerry verDorn fired.' Which is bullshít, and she was right to say so.

Since I've read so much about Ellen Wheeler lately, I decided to look up some interviews on YT. I haven't seen Ellen since I saw her as Cindy on AMC, so that's been a lifetime ago and I never really knew who Ellen was.  The first interview series I came across was the Archive of American Television from that Television Academy website. I instantly thought oh yeah, she and Kim are very different people and it's because I know people in my life just like Ellen and Kim. I kid you not (and I hope this doesn't come across badly), but the instant I watched Ellen speak, I thought wow, she reminds me of two people - my aunt, who happens to be Mormon, and Robyn from Sister Wives. I then googled Ellen and her Wiki page says she is Mormon and lives in Utah with her husband and children. LOL - I guess I can just tell :P

But it all is starting to make sense to me (their relationship). I also watched Kim's 2006 Emmy win speech and kudos to Ellen, because she was visibly cheering her on and even Kim thanked her in her speech.
