I doubt McKinsey would have stayed since she loathed JFP (something JFP was dishonest about in the Locher interview), but to reduce Alex to being so desperate and pathetic over Roger and Nick was just ridiculous.  The character of Nick was just not worth the character assassination of Alex and Mindy. Simms's Mindy had matured so much that to resort to the switching of the DNA  to keep this man was just so idiotic. It also made not one bit of sense since the man was a dead ringer for Lujack.

I have a vague memory of Mindy having a flashback where she was in a soda shop or somewhere with Lujack, to try to imply she'd had feelings for Lujack which would I guess further give motivation for her being with Nick.

I remember Nick and Lillian also having a talk soon after his arrival.

It's too bad they didn't do more, but I don't know what they could do anyway - the only part of the story which had juice was Beverlee's responses, and the show took that for granted. JFP really was deluded enough to believe the only person in that story GL fans cared about was Vincent.

I'd have to agree with whoever suggested Marcy Walker for Emily Mason Norris.  I think she would've been terrific as Holly's niece and Blake's cousin (given the right writing, of course).  But you're not gonna like who I would've paired her with.  ;)

So why leave us hanging ... who would you have paired her with? 🙂

Yes, and it exposed Curlee as a toxic female with her body language and how she choose to answer certain questions.  She seemed to take delight in humiliating Alex as a character while Simms said she tried to really balance how she played Mindy during that whole storyline.

What are you speaking of here? I don't recall anything like this. My impression of Curlee is delightful. I love her Southern accent & she is one who words seem to like.

You aren't wrong. Coleman did a good job with the story, but the story was a mistake. It was too soon to bring Annie back, and while I appreciated how cold and sharp Coleman was compared to how OTT Watros could be by the end, there just was no need for her. The whole idea of her using poisoned aftershave to make Josh want Cassie felt like a rejected Dynasty plotline. And then she ends up stuck in a boring relationship with Alan before she skips town - I can't even remember what her exit was...did she go on the run?

The only positive was her confrontation scenes with Alex in the attic during Marj's brief 98/99 return - some of Marj's best work in the role.

It was way too soon to bring Annie back....(I can see how Zimmer may have taken her frustration out on the actress, by that time she knew that Reva had become a plot point and not the main character in the storyline, in terms of the clone, and now Annie having to be back to give Jeva a storyline and make them remotely interesting, but Kimmer, you bitch about airtime, you get it, in bad storylines) but I could have bought the character as a psycho Annie seduced off screen and convinced that she was the victim and Jeva needed to be punished. I liked Signy's cold insanity, she could have been a real threat...and yes, the only time I loved Marj/Alex was in those scenes so what did Rauch and the writers do...not  have another one!

Annie is on the run and sees Holly kidnap the kids ("And they think I'm crazy") and calls Reva cause, you know St. Reva has to save the day and Kimmer was actually off camera for three minutes that week. She then kidnapps Lizzie herself but Alan and India save the day.  And Annie just dispears (though we find out later that Alan has been keeping her in an asulym in a replica of Jeva's house.

About BM and Nancy Curlee... all I know is they referred to her as her "favorite writer" in her famous interview with Logan.

https://iriswheeler.tripod.com/tvguide19920811.html

Logan: Quitting was the only solution?

McKinsey:  (Getting a little testy) I'm burnt out and the only solution to that is to stop  -- and stop immediately.  It's like trying to doctor a major wound with a bandaid.  If they had said, 'Well, [McKinsey's favorite head writer] Nancy Curlee is coming back and that'll put Alexandra back to where she used to be,' that would have been wonderful but that wouldn't have fixed it.

As callous as it is, I remember people not caring about Lucy during that storyline. Their attention was on Brett and then Marian. I'm sure part of it was fatigue from all the rape storylines on daytime.  I think some of it was just that people were tired of the Coopers (save for Nadine) by that point. I came across a letter to an editor where a soap viewer was angry that Lucy had been raped because she said something (paraphrasing from memory here) like "Now I have to care about a character I can't stand. I'm not going to do it." If I can find it, I'll upload a screenshot.

I was gone for the weekend and just catching up on comments here, but this makes me sad!  I guess not being an 80s-90s GL watcher before, I have a bit of a different perspective or feeling towards these characters that I just got introduced to.  But you're right, if all the other soaps were having rape storylines, maybe this wasn't as impactful back in the day.  But yeah, I'm really enjoying Lucy, she's so sweet, and I love how Alan-Michael has fallen in love with her and wants to protect her.

There may have been an element of Guiding Light burn out going on. In the early '90's, Ellen Parker and Maeve Kinkead won supporting actress, Deas and Jerry ver Dorn won supporting actor (JvD back to back years), Deas and Zaslow won Lead Actor, Melissa Hayden won younger actress, and Monti Sharp, Kevin Mambo and Rick Hearst won younger actor (not to mention, Bryan Buffinton, bless his sweet face was a perpetual nominee). Zimmer had won lead actress in '90, and Maeve Kinkead, Marj Dusay and Maureen Garrett had been nominated.

In looking, I think I know why---Satra would've been 28, meaning she'd have needed to submit in supporting, not younger lead. The younger lead nominee from GL that year was Kimberly J Brown.

the Supporting Actress noms that year were Anna Holbrook, Rosalind Cash, Victoria Rowell, Tonya Williams and Michelle Stafford. Anna Holbrook won.

Ahhh - makes sense with the GL burn out.  That's a heavy Y&R group to go against, but man, I still think Satra deserved a nom.  Her scenes were really powerful to me.

Lord have mercy, I can't believe I read Sonia Satra and Emmy in the same sentence!!!! : ) The world truly is ending!

And that's...pretty much how I felt about Lucy as well, lol.

IIRC, even Nick's HIV-positive wife, Susan, was liked more by viewers than Lucy; and she was only a supporting player in the Brent/Marian storyline who was in Springfield for, like, a year.

Why didn't fans like Lucy?  Was it the character and her backstory I missed/haven't seen yet, or did they just not warm up to the fans?

No, it's how dare YOU! Hatred of Sonia Satra was universal. EVERYONE hated her.

Satra's voice always irritated me, and I always felt like Lucy was just a poor man's placeholder for Harley when Ehlers first left.

That's because she was.

I agree!

I feel like Nick and Mindy were together for two reasons: 1) Judi Evans wasn't on the show anymore; and 2) somebody believed pairing Alexandra's son with the woman who helped to detonate her marriage would lead to good story.  And it did.  For awhile.  But once I saw what pairing them was reducing Alex to, it was as if a part of me had died inside, lol.

It was worse than that for me because I felt like Mindy also went under the bus and she and Alexandra both just suffered for the sake of Nick.

ICAM!!

But Alex had already crossed a line when she told Billy about the affair, long after it was over, out of spite.

That's what I mean when I try and describe the kind of woman Alexandra became after Roger.  Telling Billy about Roger and Mindy's affair like that was out of line, and out of control.

I'm up to the end of May 1995 and just watched JFP's final episode.  Curious to see what change I'll see, if at all.

Eve just died and that was very sad, although I never really got to know her well, sadly.  Ed is clearly upset, but he followed through with her wishes of not being hooked up to breathing tubes.  Rick seems really upset and I'm trying to figure out what Rick and Eve's connection was from before.

Roger just staged a car accident and is faking amnesia and I'm here for it!  LOL  Although I just started May 29th and the role is being played by a new actor now!  I hope this is temporary.  I don't like Fletcher, so I love to side with Roger and his antics through this storyline.

I'm trying to have an open mind, but please make this ghost Reva storyline make sense.  I could buy Josh seeing her and dealing with unresolved grief, but now she just showed up and is visibly talking to Annie alone, pretending to be a nurse.  I don't get it.

I really like Bridgett and finally she's getting more material in '95, but she's tied to this random guy named Skunk, and he's a terrible actor.  Hopefully he doesn't last long, but I enjoy seeing her struggle with being a mom and being young/dating.  The actress is really good too, when given the opportunity.

Mindy just left the country and from what I read online, this was Crampton's last episode (May 26, 1995).  What a very unceremonious exit, wow.  She just tells Josh she's leaving for a business meeting overseas randomly at Eve's memorial and then she's gone.  I guess she either pissed someone off BTS or asked to leave pretty abruptly and they just said fine, later?

I have a vague memory of that scene as well.  IIRC, too, they even had "Almost Paradise" playing in the background, even though that was Beth and Lujack's theme.  It was weird, lol.
