The difference I speak of isn't about AS' preparedness. While her Vanessa has the same elitist air, it lacks Maeve's tightly wound, controlling edginess. Early Vanessa is always playing an angle, ready to shiv you in the back, and childishly possessive of Henry.

If Maeve's maternity leave hadn't fallen into the climax of the Diane Ballard murder, GL might've just sent Vanessa on a trip until she could return.

LOL...it's no wonder the Vanessa/Ed fling is easily forgotten and rarely referenced. Maeve sleeps with and gets dumped by Mart Hulswit, Anna makes up with Mart, gets early Peter Simon and must break up with him. When Maeve comes back, it's on the arm of Mark Pinter.

I think that's kind of what started me down that road. It is a weird coincidence.

*sigh* I just rewatched Billy and Vanessa's second wedding. While it's wonderful, it's also kind of sad--like the end of a book. William Roerick is obviously not well. Larry Gates' appearances have dwindled, and they and Vince Williams die in the next couple of years. Jordan gets fired.

While I know there's some good stuff coming up before Reva's return knocks the show back into "Reva 24/7" mode, I'm reluctant to watch.

I remember that time when the internet was just coming into its own and at the old GL dicussion list someone found Laiby's home number and posted it...which was a step too far. ("Sure, stranger who somehow got my phone number I would love to talk to you about what a sh@t job I am doing!") But actually Laiby was so in over his head, he actually was asking fans for suggestions.

I don't get it, he worked under Marland and ATWT during its golden period, why was he so lost? HE brought back Brown as her iconic character but had the character written like she was Iva Snyder (Nola mopping around the boarding house because her husband cheater on her....she would go snatch that b*tch bald and kicked Quint in his nuts...) Maybe it was more McTavish but that was an era that really could have turned GL around.

LUCKY you! Did SoapClassics do a DVD? I got a couple of the ATWT dvds, but never really check out what (if anything) they did for GL.

I'm not exactly sure what, but he gets arrested and Geoffrey Scott steps into the role late summer.

Honestly, it's like they treated the fans like idiots. Like the only way we'd remember "hey, that's Nola and not Iva!" is with some wacky, fantasy laden story. Like a) the P&G shows hadn't been swapping actors like baseball cards for the prior 20 years and b) a week's worth of bitchy scenes between her and Vanessa wouldn't have made it plain.

    • I have to admit I still have a nagging complaint about timelines - Why aren't we allowed to know how long Ted and Nicole have been married or how old Kat and Eva are? Or for that matter, when Anita last released an album? BTG is a new show with no SORAS or timewarping. MVJ and Guza are working from a fresh bible. There is no need to be so coy about ages and anniversaries, especially when most of the storylines are driven by past events.
    • It was an extremely rare interview even then - I was shocked when I read it (as mentioned I'd forgotten just how far in she went).  Malone was clearly hobbled by NBC and P&G, but re-using so many of his old stories and his soap bible instead of actually coming up with material suited to the characters or show did not help.
    • Seeing this trash get good ratings says nothing good about daytime audiences. It's embarrassing.
    • Cat does feel committed to being a goofball (the other term has been reconsidered in recent years).  I wonder, given her brother Aaron, if Cat was less attractive prior to the surgery?  Remember the 1973 movie The Girl Most Likely to?  My fanfic for the moment is Cat commenting on how people treat her differently now that she is gorgeous.  One assumes that pre-surgery, Cat never had two men fighting over her for a date.  So, it might be fun to see that side of the story.
    • It's probably one of the only conflicts the story will have, aside from Dante being upset with Lulu when the truth comes out. They really needed someone else who actually knows Gio is Dante and Brook Lyn's son and kept quiet.
    • So Cat wasn't a creation of Ron C.. but something that the strike writers generated? Perhaps the new writers will give her some layers and purpose on the show that doesn't revolve around Chad since isn't he on his way out next year?
    • Another good show today, but -- Why is super agent Joss holding that thumb drive in plain sight instead of stashing it in her denim shorts? Make it make sense. -- Dante going after Gio (in the previews) for Rocco's alcohol poisoning is lame and cliche, just a contrived way to drive a wedge between father and son.
    • Didn't he get all angry because the strike writers set her up to be Abigail? And he just went with the first thing that came to mind in order to prevent that?

    • That was an incredible interview.  I cannot imagine it ever happening with a performer currently on a soap.  I remember being extremely disappointed in Michael Malone.  I wish we had all of the backstage scoop on where things went wrong with him.
    • Go 'head, Brandon!! I was worried about this meltdown, but he's giving a pretty good meltdown. Knowing when to do it and just the right moment to pull back a bit.    These Kat vs Eva scenes. The best soap rivalry has the rivals have some empathy for the others though they dislike each other. And they are giving.    Yay! A brief SilkPress vs Dani moment.
