This is a message board. Posters aren't expected to post anything like that whatsoever.

The only time any of that is used is when I use it in articles, but that is a professional expectation as a journalist. No way are posters expected to do so.

If this a customary expectation of posters, particularly due to "trigger" issues, it's news to me.

Whenever I see the topic of suicide mentioned on the internet, I usually personally post links to crisis hotlines, because I personally feel it's the right thing to do.  I have done that here on SON if I happen to see suicide mentioned.  I may have strongly stated that I think that it's useful to mention it.  But it was my opinion and not a SON policy. (Donna may have thought I was stating a policy but it was actually just my strong opinion).

Okay, if you say no to what I posted, then, fine, you are the ultimate authority.

I got it from @janea4old. I know that she & possibly others have done so for some unknown amount of time. In that way I followed someone else's lead. Recently when I knew I was going to post about Brenda Benet I PM'd her to ask about the hotline info she's been posting. What she was posting made sense to me. I took info from her, made it my own & included it.

Editing to add: I did not mean to gatekeep, so if it came off that way, I apologize.

I'm not saying you can't post the information. The more information, the better, as any person who can benefit from it is for the best. I'm just noting that it isn't the policy of SON.

Understandable. Thank you for clarifying/clearing up any confusion.

So sad to see cuties Paul Joynt (Brian 1) and Tim Murphy (Spenser) in those early scenes knowing they both died of AIDS related complications.  Their shirtless night camping scene in the recently posted May episode is full of erotic subtext.  Of course, they missed an opportunity to wow the audience by having one of them have a crush on the other.  Grover's decision to have Brian go into a Young and the Restless fantasy about Stephanie when he meets her for the first time is a total gay hoot.  During the camping scene he has the cutest queer boy/mother dream/nightmare.  These few Grover shows are radically different that the January Corrington episodes.  Clearly, Grover/Porterfield were green and didn't have command of things.  Dialog was uneven at best.  No wonder they didn't last long.  Was it Bunim who hired Grover or had she left as well to take over ATWT and was it Fred Bartholemew as producer?

Actually, I am pretty sure Joynt died of suicide.

@GymnastGuy Thanks for posting those episodes from 1980.

I watched the first couple from 1980. The first one was very good. I suspect it may be a Patrick Mulcahey script. Stephanie Wyatt is the kind of character that Mulcahey can breathe life into with minimal effort. Using the custody battle outcome as motivation for Stephanie's seduction of Martin is a nice move. Stephanie's motives are devious, but I love the way that she just manipulates Martin through telling the truth and withholding important details. The inneudo filled conversation between those two were great. There is such an easy chemistry between Aniston and Cheatham. I really enjoy Stephanie's relationship with Steve Kendall years later and I wish there were more Stephanie / Martin conflict over Stephanie's involvement with Martin's newly discovered son.

I thought Renata's comment about living in fantasies given her actress background was insighful. There seems to be a bit of chem testing between Renata and Marc D'Antoni, but I don't think Marc and Simon are around much longer. Is Simon still blind at this point or was his blindness cured? I can't recall.

I am curious about the decision to end the Laine / Gary / Carolyn scenario because I suspect that the Corringtons are recycling elements of it with Renata / David / Kathy. Wasn't Carolyn involved with Marc because of the interest in his son? Similar to the set up between Renata and Marc? In addition, Kathy was brought back to revive that conflict for David, though I think the law firm was still very important to the show at this point in time so having an extra lawyer is nice. I wonder if the Corringtons purposely repeated it or were simply already creatively shot.

The Italy stuff is not my cup of tea. I don't care about Prince Tony especially since it complicated Renata's already complicated situation. She was the illegitimate half-sister of Travis who had been an actress, novice nun, and a nurse who was now raped by an Italian prince, who dies at the hands of terrorists. It's just all too overheated. Bless Rod Arrants for playing it all with a straight face.

The Boilermaker story isn't my favorite. The dynamic between Cissie and Lee is workable, but I don't really care about Beau. I had forgotten that Beau was trying to use the Inn as a front for gambling at one point as this was why he was trying to get Stu to sell. Stu's heart issues were earlier, correct?

I'll be curious to see the summer 1980 episodes.

I still don't understand why they recast Kathy with Nicolette Goulet. Goulet had such a very mannered style of speaking, which is a world away from the more natural Courtney Simon. If they wanted to bring in a brand-new character they should have done so.

I think Kathy's place on the canvas made sense, if not Goulet herself. Was the Kathy / Stephanie friendship a new thing under the Corringtons? I imagine Kathy's work with John Wyatt had put Stephanie and Kathy at least in the same orbit. I believe the show briefly tried Erich and Wendy, before that was abandoned. The bulk of Kathy's return under the Corringtons though was a reunion with David, or the possibility of a reunion. I don't think that gets very far though because the Corringtons may be there until May, they are on auto-pilot by late March.

I also have to wonder, myself, if I would have more interest in Allison if someone other than Breon Gorman was in the role.

@Soapsuds Glenn Scarpelli is briefly in this (and Christian Slater in his first credited role on IMDB) at about 7 minutes.

I can see what you all mentioned above about the show seeming very aimless with the writer changeover. This whole thing with Liza looking out for the cereal commercial lookalike kid seems like strike material.

Courtney Simon was hired in 1980 by Ralph Ellis and Eugenie Hunt to write scripts for The Doctors. Courtney wrote under the alias Kate Brooks. She may have written under another alias for another show before that. Not sure.  Millee Taggart also wrote scripts for Ellis/Hunt under the alias Heather Matthews.

I'm curious that (although most of these episodes don't have full closing credits, there's only been one (or two) where Racina/Schibi/Bacos listed as script writers.  All other long credit crawls show Elizabeth Levin as sole script writer.  BTW: Margaret Schibi is veteran script writer Peggy Schibi although IMDB lists them as two separate writers.

It's hard to get through these episodes. I think the Corringtons left the show in a mess. I give Grover/Porterfield credit for focusing on Liza with the child story and Stephanie/Wendy with long long Brian/Spencer. But it's hard to get through the other stuff. Never liked Cissy (or the actress as Kim Brady on Days). Never liked Lee Sentell character either.

Thanks for catching that. IMDB is so difficult to correct.
