Members Carolyn1980
From the NY Times: Whats Behind That Curtain? Lets Make a Deal to Replace Guiding Light By Edward Wyatt Fred Westbrook Collection/GSN Monty Hall was the original host of Lets Make a Deal. CBS announced Monday that it will revive the daytime game show Lets Make A Deal to replace the soap opera Guiding Light, which the network said earlier this year will end its decades-long run in September. Lets Make A Deal, the 1960s and 1970s staple that featured audience members in wacky costumes taking a chance on what was behind door No. 3, will return to the CBS daytime schedule Oct. 5 with a new host but with many of the old games and structure. Wayne Brady, most recently the host of the primetime game show Dont Forget the Lyrics on Fox, will take over the role filled by Monty Hall on the original program. Guiding Light began on CBS in 1952 after more than a decade on NBC radio. After a presentation to the Television Critics Association in Pasadena, Calif., Nina Tassler, the president of CBS Entertainment, warned of other potential daytime changes. She said that another long-running CBS soap, As The World Turns, is also facing ratings challenges and that CBS is looking at all of daytime very carefully. Ms. Tassler said that CBS had taped three game-show pilots, including Lets Make A Deal, in the search for a replacement for Guiding Light, indicating that it might have a potential replacement ready to go if it decides that As The World Turns has also run its course. Game shows generally are far cheaper to make than daytime dramas, another factor that might weigh in the CBS decision.

Members Y&RWorldTurner
Well, not like this is unexpected. With GL gone, ATWT likely only has a year left. They believe that these shows can't be fixed, and in many cases, I agree. No writing regime or producer changes are going to have a significant impact on the ratings. Since Y&R is still the #1 soap, it has nothing to lose by bringing in a new writing and producing regime though, since this current regime seems intent on sinking this show as low as the other soaps. Members Soapsuds
If ATWT is gone...CBS can [!@#$%^&*] off...I am done with Y&R too. No more soaps for me or SON.....LOL.
Members EastMA2
I think it's a no brainer that this coming season will be ATWT's last. If GL didn't hit the magic number of 1.8 and got cancelled and ATWT has been hovering in the 1.6, 1.7 range, do the math. ATWT's demos aren't that much higher than GL's and GL looks alot cheaper to produce.

Members Soapsuds
CBS doesn't give 2 sh i t s about soaps anymore. Y&R only got a 2 year pick up....CBS can go to h e l l for all I care. They havent done s h i t to fix up the soaps.
Members Sylph
It would be unrealistic to expect CBS to fix its soaps. Remember - Barbara Bloom, incompetence embodied, heads the department.
Members dm.
So not only is Bloom incompetent, so is the person that hired her? Is Tassler her boss or? Anyway, they are all stupid for not being able to see that their people are doing a lousy job at keeping this industry alive.
Members Sylph
Nina came in 2004, Barbara in 2003, I believe. And Nina has a boss, too. Her name is Nancy Tellem.

Members dm.
Yep, they ALL suck if neither of them is able to see the problems.
Members Soapsuds
CBS will probably be out of the soap business by 2011. Most if not all of the GL and ATWT viewers will tune out the remaining soaps left on CBS. Y&R and B&B numbers will continue to erode. Stupid Hacks.... Members Soapsuds
The only good news is that Jean Pissy the hack will be out of job. I hope no one else is stupid enough to hire her. Of course Goutman will return to ABC...and continue his destruction of soaps.
