There's still time for her to turn around. But, I'm not giving her a free pass because:

  • She's had more than a year's time(including the strike) to fix what is wrong with Y&R. No more "Josh Griffith and Barbara Bloom tried to interfere" nonsense. She's had plenty of time to improve, write more Y&R-esque stories with slower pacing and characterization, and she and her band of mystery-writing misogynists have not raised the bar. This isn't the U.S. Economy. It's a daytime soap.(Although I cringe at the thought of Maria the registered Republican[from California's political scene, the land of more than 10% unemployment]having anything to do with our nation's politics. Look at the way she runs Y&R: wasteful spending, unclear objectives, neglecting or exploiting minorities/homosexuals, viewing women as mere victims or accessories to men, horrible planning and followthrough... <_< ).
  • She claims to listen to the fans, yet she writes whatever she wants to write. If she were listening to the fans post-LML, she would have known from day one to avoid any and all stories that have to do with art and the appreciation or the theft of it. If fans of soaps want to watch people stroke their dick over the Mona Lisa, they could tune into PBS for that. And I don't want to hear any of this crap about "the team" not having a full year(as I've read on other boards from DAYS fanbois concerning Hackley). And let's also not forget the misogyny, the lack of strong females, and the manipulation of history to suit an agenda.
  • Usually we all know that writers(especially HACKS) tend to stick to similar themes and similar stories instead of objectively looking at the crap they're working on, fixing the flaws, and at the very least, moving in a different direction that is consistent with the characters and makes sense.

The time to "wait" for things to get better is over. It's time for a change, especially if SONY and the Bells want to milk this show beyond the "five" years everyone else behind-the-scenes are giving these shows.

Yes, we are. What I'm saying is that during the earlier reigns, there was jsut as much complaining as there is now... I heard rant after rant of the Winters being on EVERY DAY for 6 months, Jack Smith and his turning Sharon into a slult who would abandon her children, when she was always the "nice girl"... people always have sympathy now for Ashley.. back then, she was "Sperm satan". People cuould not STAND the enormous screen time given to the teens (Glow by Jabot kids, Sierra, Lily, Colleen) And let's not EVEN bring up JT's little singing career and the criticizm that raised. My point is that people who like to bitch are gonna bitch, and no matter who you have to write this show, it's gonna be the same story, jsut with different people. With LML, it was different. There were literally only TWO people on the sony board who supported her, me and one other person. And I only supported her for a WHILE, until she fired Kay Alden and started running amok... then she was on my [!@#$%^&*] list, and always will be.

From what I observed on that board, just a few months ago a lot of people liked the show, or tolerated it better, but now, not just at Sony, more and more people seem fed up with the creative direction of the show and how the balance is off on the show.

While it's true that people will always complain, that is to be expected. The MAB regime seems different though, because not only is there a fan backlash against her, but she's also the writer who in a short amount of time took Y&R to its lowest ratings ever and though ratings were up for the past two weeks, the trend seems to be going downward again when compared to how the show was closer to reaching a 4.0 earlier in the year.

I think a lot of people just don't like her creative vision, and it seems to be more impactful in the ratings that many prior regimes. But people will always complain, and they have every right to.

All I know is the soap press used to always say Y&R had little negative fan feedback when compared to other soaps, yet now, it seems to be coming in viciously for this show. A lot of fans just aren't happy with the show right now.
