Y&R: Episodes Discussion for the week June 22

I totally agree with this - and it's why I'm fine with this Summer storyline. Yes, it's trying to murder children, and I totally understand a lot of mothers have issues with watching a daily story about that, and I totally respect that. You'll hear no argument from me. But between MJ/Victor's power-play scenes today, and Summer being poisoned, Mary Jane is finally taking the leap she needs from pathetic psycho-lapdog to Glenn Close. And the timing is perfect - she's on the show for three months. The mystery is all but solved (unless you're a Y&R newbie, in which case it might not be so obvious). And I love that the day Mary Jane stands up to Victor and toys with him is the same day she tries to murder his granddaughter. Victor's officially lost control of her, even though he doesn't know it yet - and even though I obviously find no joy in watching a comatose five-year old (and to be honest, I really don't have the patience to watch Nick relive Cassie all over again. He was wonderful the first time around, but we've done it already... twice, if you count Noah after Brad's death)... but I find immense joy that the Mary Jane story is FINALLY kicking into high gear.

I think I've decided (just so Alvin & Co don't think I'm always the Rose-Colored Optimist) that this head-writing team can only really excel at one story at a time. For awhile, it was Marge/Kay/Jill. Then in Feb, it was the Quad/Billy (which started off great, I have to say. "I hate myself" is still in my Top 20 Favorite Daytime Moments Ever), and everything else kinda stalled. Right now I feel like it's the MJ story (really, MJ and Tricia Cast are the two pretty unanimous things Y&R fans agree are working at the moment)... and I have a feeling the Langley/P3 story will kick ass in July. I'm as excited to see MJ in an episode now, as I was to seeing Phyllis v. Sharon in February, and Katherine/Murphy trying to prove who she was in January.

You may have a point there. Luckily, there's always been at least ONE sl that really KICKS ASS, so it makes the show feel good as a whole, it helps to lift the whole show.

Plus, I don't believe MJ has any intent to kill Summer. In fact, I think MJ is so far gone she thinks she is helping Summer get her Daddy back.

Another great point! Summer gets Daddy to come home, and MJ assumes Jack will never be Sharon's consolation prize after she broke his heart and left him for Nick.

She sure never counted on Sharon lying about her baby's paternity.

That throws a wrench in the works.

No offense, but I don't watch soaps for one good story at a time (and I don't even think the MJ story is that great, but the actress kicks ass). I need at least two or three stories to be decent for me to call the soap I watch a success. One story doesn't negate the awfulness of the other stories that surround it for me, maybe it's the same for you. I also don't think it reflects well on the head-writing team if they can only tell one decent story at a time, but that's another thread, I guess.

Should the Potpourri thread be a weekly thread or just one standard thread?

I like Julia's idea. Hmm...how about monthly? Approx 1600 replies a month (if 400 is the average per week) isn't too bad for one thread.

But I don't see it that way, I see it as yet another attempt to prolong a quad that's been literally eaten this show alive for almost FOUR years already. The MJ aspect or not, but this quad has done some serious damage to every character involved. I'm sick of it and wish these characters did other things in other story orbits. This flip-flopping between beds is making me ill.

That sounds good.

Yes, Alvin. We know.

Do we know that for sure?

Ashley would either be dead or suffering a life-threatening infection right now if that dead fetus was still in her, so I guess, it's safe to say Adam burnt it.

Nothing would make me happier than to find out when this is all over and Adam's exposed that he buried the baby, made a grave. Off-camera. So Ashley can have her good-bye.

ETA: Bad choice of words. A lot of things would make me happier. LOL! I'm just saying if my choices are A ) Ashley carrying a dead baby, or B ) Adam burnt the baby, I choose C ) He buried it off-camera with a marker so Ashley/Victor have a final resting place for her.

I think I disagree with you here Dee. I don't think Chloe wants him to be perfect I think she just wants to be his everything.

Hence she wants Billy to change.

I know that's contradicting but I never saw where love made sense unless two people have mutual feelings;

And Billy & Chloe clearly don't have mutual feelings for each other.

She's infatuated but it's not about who Billy can be.

But it is.

Ever since she found out Billy was Delia's dad she has been all about changing him.

She's loves Billy as he is

No she doesn't.

Chloe likes Billy.

Chloe even loves Billy at times.

But she can't deal with a Billy who won't be who SHE wants him to be.

Billy is different when he's with Mac and Lily

Billy was Billy with Mackenzie & Lily.

He screwed things up with them too.

Chloe wants that part of him in addition to what he gives her

That's on Chloe.

Not Billy.

All the options would give me good reason to bash it though. :)

I can see my response now if C happens - "What the hell is this? We never saw Adam holding a dead fetus or carrying it outside to bury it! When Ashley fell down the stairs, he was right there cleaning up blood and what looked like fluid from her dead baby! He also never made any mention of this privately and it was never suggested. It's this kind of storytelling that makes soaps so bad!"

See what you've made me do now? ;)

YES!

Besides the pacing that is the only real major thing wrong with the gaslighting.

LMAO!!!!!! You're awesome.

Dude, you've gotta pick your battles. The Quad eating the show? Fine. The Winters are stranded in nowheresville? Agreed. Everything's just rushing to whatever Friday plot point they have planned? I'm with ya!

Whether or not they retconned Estella's employment, or whether we needed to see Adam bury the fetus, if he even did bury the fetus? Come on now... I can handle a little retconning now and then for these little things. Maybe I'm just jaded, but little stuff like that, I don't hold against head writers. There are much bigger problems to worry about.

That's possible...but we still don't know for sure. All we saw was Adamn threw those bloody towels in the fireplace. Or did the burning of the fetus happen after Adamn changed Ashley and put her back in bed?
