Yes, I know that is a VERY specific niche...but it is one that has served two shows well. They've made the mistake of making her too hard and too smart...rather than the Hawaiian Tropic girl she is.

She should have been a girl with stars in her eyes, too trusting, maybe too sexy....the template on which the above mentioned young ladies and Nikki were all built. As the daughter of Paul, she could have been the young sexpot ingenue who lurches from mistake to mistake, building a fandom of prurient admirers and those who suffer with her through each agony.

It's not too late. She shows some real signs of being stupid and sexy despite being ADA. I'd disbar her, and then have her start over as a model or something. And from there, she needs to find her Nicholas/Ridge.

LML didn't bother to write good stuff for her, so MAB just decided to do the same.

Y&R is very character-driven, even to today. The issue is WHAT KIND OF CHARACTERS are on screen. Nick has regressed so much that he disgusts me. And I'm sorry but Michelle Stafford is wrong. JM can't just smile and make it all better. An actor like James Scott might be able to use his charm to save someone like the current incarnation of Nick, but JM cannot.

Where are the characters to root for? Where are the characters with noble qualities? Where is our version of Jack Snyder (even if he can be a jerk, he's still a hero)? Where is our Vicki Lord? Where is our Angie Hubbard (and don't tell me it's Olivia!)? There is something wrong with the show when the root-for character of the week is a sociopath sadist torturing an innocent woman.

Maybe that's why I want Raoul to stay. I see him as a potential hero. I don't know. Are there any characters on the show you're rooting for?

There're no characters with backbone. Everyone's either wishy-washy (Phickron, Neil) or when faced with a tough decsion, they take the easy way out (Billy, Lame) so that they don't have a human foundation anymore.

It's unfortunate that the only person with any real motivation is Adam as well. This comes with solid pacing, which we all know is a major weak point on this show right now, where people drop out of the sky and put these characters on these paths that lead to real self-discovery or revelation. That's where the weakness is, I think.

If the pacing is improved, everything will fall into place.

Absolutely thrilled is going a bit too far. This is where I see the problems: Devon, Cane, Victoria, Lily, J.T., Tyra, Ana, "Colleen"...

I will credit the show with this much:

Across the internet, the Engen (real life) incident and the Phick breakup have just FUELED soap sites, message boards, etc. Y&R dominates all these settings. They have definitely--within the narrow internet posting communities--created buzz.

The Y&R thread never brings me down, but that's because I'm invested in Y&R in a much different way than I am GH. With Y&R I love the show as a whole. It wouldn't bring me down even if every single person hated my favs, especially because I don't ship couples, even though I have certain hopes. For example Y&R could put Kevin with about 4 different people and it would make me happy (Amber is my preference), but with some other shows, there is so little to love, if I don't get the couples I want I tend to be a lot more disappointed about it.
