In 2000 as AW fans we made videos to raise money for a bench in Central Park, a memorial to the show. Later I digitized them & have them uploaded as the Another World Fan Bench video collection. One is missing. I am looking for anyone who has a copy of the original VHS tape "Mac & Rachel" or a digital form of it. If anyone happens to have it, please holler. Otherwise, I have files for "The Lovely Ada", "Cory Christmases", and "Carl & Rachel" & "Mac & Rachel #2 & #3. 11 mp4 files.

One other thing I am always looking for. I have no idea why this is so hard to find. At one point it was up on YT. The dates are March 15 & 18, 1985 & the scene is this: Felicia is driving an 18 wheeler. Wally is a passenger. That damn gorilla is in the back. The truck's brakes have completely failed & they are barreling downhill, towards Bay City. There's lots of screaming & eventually they hit Tall Boys which causes some damage.

Is there anything that you are looking for?

Thanks for this. I was trying to place this since so many of these promos were edited to be misleading. Looks like it is early August 1986 when Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile were held hostage by Reginald ("Mr Lasalle")'s lackey Ludwig. Maybe Cecile threatened Cass at some point but the real danger was Ludwig and it's just as likely that it was Ludwig Kathleen was talking to.

I've been told that NBC did ALL of the promos for ALL of their soaps.

I was a  huge fan of ALLY McBEAL & as fans we could not figure out what was up with the promos & then we learned that FOX did all of their promos & the show had nothing to do with what was used. I feel like the same thing happened with NBC.

I'm not sure about all time periods, but definitely the ones I can think of were all packaged consistently for the NBC soaps -- this clip had Another World and Santa Barbara under the "it will excite you" theme. And I forget the theme for the set of ads they did with Matt and Josie and the balloons and Sam and Amanda where he drops ice down her cleavage, but that same set included couples from Santa Barbara as well. Of course those were generic and had zero to do with the plot.

Because of simulcasting, where the Canadian networks take over the US station on the cable broadcast, I rarely saw the NBC promos. When Search For Tomorrow was ending it had no Canadian network so I was occasionally able to see one right before Days came on, but most shows had a Canadian network.

You're Canadian?! I had no idea. What province?

Look what showed up today in my FB Memories!

Aug. 7, 2022

Per a tweet from soap writer Patrick Mulcahey, AW had a style manual rule about how much to let one character go on & it was from Pete Lemay.

Patrick Mulcahey

@MulcaheyPatrick

also remember AW had kind of a style guide, by Lemay. No character said more than one sentence at a time.

"Kit, tell me something."

"What, Joey?"

"Did you think I was wrong?"

"About what, Joey?"

"At the restaurant."

"Which restaurant?"

"The other night."

"Which other night?"

This week is the anniversary of Anne Heche's tragic accident followed by her death. I remind myself that she gave life to about 9 people through donating her organs. I also did some basic math & came up with 35 years that we had the gift of Anne among us. (2022-1987) This is a recent picture of her boys. I don't know if you know it or not, but her estate is being sued for about 6 times more money than exists. Her boys will get nothing but at least they can't be liable for the debt.

Let's just nip it in the bud right here. I've read lots of books, and they're all in favor of bud-nippin'.

Although I'm not suggesting anyone is lying, I just do not believe this purported Style Manual is real.  And if it was real, it was certainly not created nor followed by Harding Lemay. Anyone who knows anything about Lemay's scripting style would realize he never followed a rule that suggested a character could only say one sentence at a time.  Absolutely ridiculous!   Watch five-minutes of a Lemay episode from the 1970s, and you'll quickly realize I am right.   It's possible another head-writer at AW initiated a rule such as that, but it most certainly could not have been Harding Lemay.

Let's consider this bud nipped...

Just a friendly warning to watch your tone. There are many users on this board who get upset about things like this. A person insisting they are right about something when no one had any actual proof seems to really set them off. Don't want them coming after you!

While I am all for bud nipping, I could see a world where Harding Lemay would have produced a style manual, whether formally or informally.

My impression from the memoir was that AW was the first time that he managed a writing team.  And I would assume it is difficult to give up dialogue writing, after writing for the theater.  So, it stands to reason that he gave extensive notes on how he wanted things done.

That being said, the dialogue was never so staccato during Lemay's period, and what I recall the most was that each character really had their own way of speaking. Certainly, Ada and Iris never sounded alike, and neither ever spoke only in single sentences.

Don't know about Lemay but that single sentence type dialogue seemed to be a soap staple at one time -at least in ascene setup.

eg - Tom, I need to talk to you about something that has been on my mind.

     -Ok  Sally,feel free

-I'm not sure you'll want to discuss it once you hear what I have to say.

    - Well go ahead and say it and we'll see.

   - it concerns Mary .

    - Mary?

    - I know you saw her last night and I wonder if that was a wise thing to do?

    - Why not? Mary is a dear friend.

   - Just a friend Tom?

  and so on...
