Yes. I just meant that in their dialogue they didn't say anything like "I am so happy that Paulina has accepted Jake's marriage proposal! I never liked her with Ian. Also, has Brett received the results of her biopsy?" which would help narrow down when the clip was. And even the little snippets of Jake and Paulina's conversation did not illuminate anything for me. I think she says that he is back to his old self and that it is very hot.

OIC. Yes, from that perspective you are correct, of course.

Episode 5859 - July 20, 1987.

Modesta's wedding got cancelled, of course. What masochistic portrayal of a woman who is being treated like trash... for making a mistake in the past. Yeah, she was a hooker, so what... So what? In 2024 she would have probably been celebrated for this and her fiancé would have opened her an onlyfans account to post that porn and earn some cash. The only thing they didn't make her do is self-flagellate with a whip... in front of the whole town. CRINGE.

I did laugh out loud when Modesta told her mother - "I was a prostitute, mama! I was a hooker! I slept with men for money!" Maybe she should have added - I turned tricks and I slept with Johns! (she did in the previous episodes) Sorry, but the dramatic effect of these lines missed me. It was just too... direct and too simplistic... and cheap. Modesta has been repeating "I was a hooker" now for 4 episodes. I mean... okay, I guess, she's in a sort of a mental breakdown, but... that dialogue could have been a lot stronger and less masochistic. And in the end she ran into the huge strong arms of her former pimp - Chad-the-stud...   Oh, Modesta, Modesta! Old habits die hard, darling.

Positives - Mac was giving swag with his mustache through the whole episode! And finally - Rachel! I've been missing her! The episode felt like it was giving closure to a lot of things. I understand why they chose this period to start the show on SoapNet. It's right before the new storylines start shaping up.

Overall 5.5/10!

It's mediocre material, and I truly hope they are moving on from this Modesta storyline. The 0.5 added bonus is just for Mac's mustache and Rachel's beautiful eyes!

Modesta

The most galling thing about the popups is that MJ was never named Modesta. I don't know where they got that from. MJ was supposed to stand for Michael Joseph (I think it was Joseph and not John), which was why she went by MJ. Vince would use the nickname Mike for her.

So they lied to me and made me think she is Modesta? How dare they? I feel SoapNet violated!

Thank you for correcting this. Otherwise I would have continued calling her Modesta.

The freaking SoapNet trivia text box said that her actual name is Modesta Josephina. LOL. Here is the proof for you guys! 🤣

And they showed this text box maybe only once or twice... but the crazy ADHD people like me, who possess the talent of - hyperfocus...  that remember details like these... get in trouble with mistakes like these.

And how could I forget the name Modesta Josephina? If I have a cat one day... I'll definitely call her that.  Come here, Modesta Josephina! 🐈

I'll take a shot in the dark and assume that "Modesta" was meant to shade M.J. Like if her name was P.J., SoapNet would be claiming the P stood for Prudence.

Early SoapNet could be a bit snarky. They had a promo once with a baby's rattle and a voice actress saying, "Gee, he really doesn't have his father's eyes, does he?" Or the promo I'd love to find again, where The Colbys comes across as a farce.

Oh, yeah, it definitely was intentional snark on their part. They were being clever. D'oh.

I may continue calling her Modesta... It's kinda cute. 🤣

Since we had this great lucky find, Eddie says that we could be on the lookout for these:

Unverified: ALF, Biography: Ray Liotta, Falling Over Backwards, Hunter, Valerie's Home Cooking.

Falling Over Backwards, about 19 minutes in, main character's mother bores him by watching AW and describing more or less accurately some stuff about Reginald, Mary, Vince, Michael, Donna, Cheryl, and Scott. It's Philece Sampler and she says Michael and Donna just got married so I guess it's sometime in early March 1987.

This is so iconic!  I need a person like the woman in that scene to sit by me and tell me all about it... 🤣

I'm skeptical only because there is nothing noticeably cute about the way they present it -- it just sounds factual.

I think MJ’s name being Modesta Josephina was another long running AW rumor, and SoapNet just ran with it lol

Eddie Drueding debunked it.
