Rachel & Mac had been a part. When she made up her mind that she wanted to be back with Mac, it was too late, at least according to what Mac told her. Rachel was surprised to learn that Mac & Janice had married in San Francisco apx. Oct. 22, 1979. Rachel met Mitch when he arrived looking for Janice. The next week: Rachel made an office for herself in Mac's complex. Ada and Charlie announced their engagement. Nov. Rachel followed Janice and Mitch to New York and learned that Janice was the mistress of Howard Battis, who died mysteriously. Mac refused to believe Rachel's tales about Janice and Mitch. NOVEMBER 12-16, 1979 Rachel and Brian forced Janice to reveal her past with Howard to Mac. Mac fumed at Rachel for spoiling his happiness. Mitch hired Gwen to remodel his disco.NOVEMBER 19-23, 1979 NOVEMBER 26 - 30, 1979
Mitch flirted with Rachel, then commissioned her to do a sculpture for his new disco. Rachel agreed, hoping to use Mitch to get info on Janice. Janice was annoyed by Mitch's attention to Rachel. DECEMBER 3-7, 1979
Janice told Mitch to steer clear of Rachel but he taunted her that Rachel has more money. Gwen was upset that Willis took a job with Mac rather than allowing her to finance another business. DECEMBER 10-14, 1979Mitch and Rachel were snowbound but she resisted his physical advances. Jeff held Vivien and Iris captive after they found his name on Kirk's typewriter ribbon as Kirk's killer. Joey went berserk after Eileen's prolonged death and was snowbound on a hilltop. Jamie was devastated to find Cecile and Philip together. Janice told Mac she's investigating Mitch's background for a story but it's only an excuse to keep tabs on Rachel and Mitch. DECEMBER 17-21, 1979
Janice had a weird reaction after Mac had a bout with food poisoning. Reena was upset that Striker invited Pat to stay with them while writing her magazine article. Gwen was jealous that Willis and Tracey will work together. Blaine got along famously with Hazel. Cecile denied to Dennis that she has feelings for Philip. DECEMBER 24-28, 1979
At his disco opening, Mitch reminded Janice that she could have saved Howard's life by giving him medication. Janice pleaded that she needed to be stopped from doing the same kind of thing to Mac if Mitch continues dating Rachel. Rachel suspected Iris brought Philip to town in order to confuse Cecile and steer her away from Dennis.

DECEMBER 31, 1979 - JANUARY 4, 1980 Mac told Rachel he objects to Mitch spending time around Rachel and Amanda. At his disco opening, Mitch urged Janice to go through with the plan to drug Mac since Mac and Rachel are getting closer. JANUARY 7-11, 1980

Mac and Janice moved into Elena's former place.  Mitch goaded Janice so she'd continue to poison Mac by hinting he'd marry Rachel.  Mitch bought drugs for Janice and gave her instructions on administering them.

JANUARY 14-18, 1980  Janice lost the "poison" manuscript."  Mac became tired, listless, and absent-minded under the influence of the drugs Janice was giving him. Janice panicked when she thought Mac had died instead of just sleeping and had doubts of carrying out the plan. JANUARY 21-25, 1980

Rachel was shocked by Mac's condition when he came to visit Amanda. Mac was irritated by Mitch's presence and insisted he is in good health when Rachel suggested he see a doctor.  Mitch told Janice to stop drugging Mac so the drug will be cleared from his system in time for Mac to get a physical examination from Russ.   Janice almost fainted when Mac and Jamie agreed to have the "Harry Must Die" manuscript reviewed by another editor for potential publishing.   Pat took over Janice's responsibilities so she could devote full time to Mac.    JANUARY 28 - FEBRUARY 1, 1980

Tracy assured Gwen she has no interest in Willis and warned they are pawns in games Iris and Janice are playing. Mitch tried to retrieve the manuscript that was left on Jamie's desk. Janice convinced Mac to stay at home and work less so his deteriorating health will go unnoticed. Janice was unable to make love to Mitch after she resumed her poison plot against Mac. Jason convinced Mitch to hire Tracy as a singer for the new disco. FEBRUARY 4-8, 1980

Mac decided to read the manuscript himself after being impressed by Philip's editorial report.  Mac accidentally left the manuscript with Rachel after visiting Amanda. FEBRUARY 11-15, 1980

Rachel read the manuscript and joked that Janice resembles the character who tried to kill her husband. Janice pressured Mac into letting Willis run the company since Mac is feeling poorly. Tracy decided to leave Brava and pursue her singing career to pay off her debts. Mitch was moved as Rachel swore to Mac she and Amanda would always be part of his life. Jamie went to New York to meet with Donald Tanner, the author of "Harry Must Die." Rachel suspected that Janice is causing Mac's deteriorating health. Rachel failed to convince Mac's friends that Janice is poisoning him. FEBRUARY 18-22, 1980

Janice was livid and accused Mitch of harboring feelings for Rachel when Mitch wanted out of their plot against Mac. Janice recorded her last conversation with Mitch and erased the part when he insisted he no longer wanted to be involved. Iris believed Janice's lie she and Mac are taking a vacation and Mac has recovered from the flu. Pat told Rachel and Liz she hasn't seen Mac in weeks and he sounded awkward and confused on a tape she received from him. Philip proposed marriage to Cecile. Jerry suspected that someone is still tipping off the local drug dealers about impending police raids. Gwen realized that Willis knows more about Mac than he's telling. Sally was puzzled by Blaine's new lavish lifestyle despite being married to a cop. Striker and Victoria returned to Houston. Jamie told Rachel about the plot of "Harry Must Die" and Janice being incensed upon learning copies of the manuscript were found. Brian and Dennis were unnerved by Iris's joy over Philip's marriage proposal to Cecile. Janice made plans to take Mac to the Caribbean and Mitch would later join them. FEBRUARY 25-29, 1980

Mitch found himself trapped once Janice played the taped conversation they had about poisoning Mac. Gwen didn't believe Willis' insistence that Janice took Mac out of town to overcome alcoholism. Liz and Rachel were alarmed that Janice refused to let Liz see Mac and he was napping while Amanda was visiting him. Janice attacked Gwen during a confrontation. Iris accused Rachel of being obsessed with Mac and refused to listen to her suspicions about Janice. On a tip from Willis, Rachel went to St. Lucia but was unable to locate Mac and Janice.

MARCH 3-7, 1980

Rachel didn't get any help from Jason when Mitch broke their date and left town suddenly.  Tracy found Mitch's address on a matchbook cover Jason left and gave it to Rachel. Gwen and Willis disagreed that Janice is capable of committing murder. Brian worried about legal trouble for Rachel because of her accusations against Janice. Willis begged Ada, Brooks, and Louise to reveal Rachel's whereabouts to no avail. Russ refused to prescribe sleeping pills for Tracy, who has been fatigued and is suffering from dizzy spells. Janice became more desperate as Mac's health deteriorated further and was relieved when Mitch arrived. Brian decided to help Rachel in case charges are pressed against her for slandering Janice. Mitch lied to Janice, promising to carry out the plan and be together once Mac dies. MARCH 10-14, 198

Mitch caught Rachel spying on him in St. Croix. Rachel charmed Mitch, claiming she discovered his whereabouts through Jason and hoped to see him. Gwen and Willis fought about Janice until he began to question Janice's intentions toward Mac. Rachel seduced Mitch after they enjoyed a day of sailing in hopes Mitch would lead her to Mac. Mitch secretly vowed to help Rachel in saving Mac's life. Ada refused to give Rachel's whereabouts to Brian, who questioned the reasons that Mac has not called anyone in days. Mitch tried to assure Janice that his motives with Rachel were a one-night stand and to ensure their protection. Rachel followed Mitch and Janice to Mac. Rachel slipped into the house while Mitch distracted Janice, who agreed to stop poisoning Mac and summon a doctor. MARCH 17-21, 1980

Janice went mad after spotting Rachel trying to rescue Mac and grabbed a knife. Janice accused Mitch of betraying her and stabbed him. Janice was killed by her own knife in the struggle with Rachel. Iris went into a rage against Willis when Brian told them about Mac being in the hospital because of Janice. Mitch was hospitalized in St. Croix, while Mac was flown to Bay City for surgery. Russ and Jamie were alarmed over the amount of poison Janice had given Mac. Everyone was shocked by the events in St. Croix and regretted they didn't listen to Rachel's warnings about Mitch and Janice's plot against Mac. Scott got nowhere while questioning Rachel. Tomorrow I'll start looking for clips.

Post a link. You are taking their property and reposting it. We know you have little respect and copy anything you want to, but this is not the way to  share information properly. it's ;like copying a wikipedia page and posting it here.  Eddie and Mike work too hard for their work just to be copied and pasted.

You are right. I was wrong. I apologize. I got caught up in thinking about the project I was into & didn't stop to think about common courtesy & right & wrong. Thank you for pointing this out.

The writing for Donna does seem to show that there was a lot of misogyny on the show during the DePriest's first run as head writer.

And it also seems like DePriest repeated that during her second run as well. Poor Donna became a nutcase again who was desperate for a man. I'm curious what would have happened if fan outrage hadn't caused her to rewrite her story and Donna had been the one that was killed off.

I actually think this fit Donna.

She was made to not be with Michael, forced to have Marley raised as her sister instead of her daughter, and didn't know she had Victoria.

Between 1983 to 1986, she had to admit Marley was her daughter, found out she had another daughter, had Michael come back, and then her long thought to be dead father comes back.... no wonder she flipped out.

I always thought she was so cold and snobby in 1983 because she had love/happiness taken away from her so she became cold.  And any maternal feelings she had for Marley had to be repressed.

I think had Harding Lemay stayed in 1988, he would have delved into Donna/Marley's complicated relationship.  Marley's whole world and identity had to have been shaken...and seeing how those 2 learned to see one another as mom/daughter would have been interesting...instead of the tired good/bad twin trope.

I believe that the man she was with for many years was taking a run at Hollywood & she decided she would take a stab at it herself. Sure missed her while she was gone! I still have the VCR tapes of her first full week back which included the Fun House Mirrors, Jason Frame's shooting, Stacy Winthrop's the Beast Derek & hair extensions for Felicia. Cass was with Nicole Love. I think to Donna Reginald was just 100% domineering. And, to Marisa he was lord & master & she was brain-washed. In a way Donna & Marisa both were.

Explain Reginald.

    • Beverlee was on a whole other level from Kim. It's not like they were in competition with each other. I get the feeling that Kim had a slight problem with the super-professional, serious cast members who just wanted everyone to be prepared and do the work, as she seems to like having fun on set. (She's made a few cracks about Chris Bernau being like that). Bev was definitely one of those. But they didn't work together that much. Yeah, they made her manic and also much weaker. She always had a vulnerability, but wanting to kill herself over that guy? No way. Not only that, he didn't leave her! She insisted he marry Maeve. When they did the tribute to Bert/Charita, the compilation of scenes with her showed how much the cast had been almost totally turned over in a relatively short period of time. Nearly every shot was of her by herself because most people she had worked with had been fired, left or been replaced. I assume they couldn't show her with people who hadn't been replaced, like Don Stewart, Elvera Roussel, or Robert Newman because they would have had to pay them for using their clips. It's dreadful to watch. Like she had no connection to the current show.

    • A little too much focus on Chad and Cat today but I enjoyed the episode. I have a feeling that Jennifer’s gonna get dumped on though, even though I think that her anger is completely understandable and justified. And honestly, Ron is finally gone; Abigail can come back now.  But, welcome back, Anna! It was nice seeing Carrie have scenes with her mother. Christie Clark and Leann Hunley have never really had that many scenes together and to see them have them now is really nice. I’m glad that both of them were there to comfort Marlena too. Their words were definitely the thing that Marlena needed to hear. Btw, with all this talk of Noah, does it mean that he’s gonna be introduced soon? Amy, revealing that John changed her flat tire many years ago seemed a little random though. I would rather she have said something about how everybody in Salem knows of John Black because of how he was always such a hero. But at the same time, her story also showed what a great guy John was.  I liked Kate’s scenes with Philip too, and her promise to get back at Xander for what he did. And since we didn’t see JPL in the bed, did he need some time off or something? And yeah, everything involving ‘One Stormy Night’ still seems very Ron-like to me.
    • The second photo featuring the late John Spencer is from the Law & Order episode, "Prescription For Death", which was the (second) pilot/first episode all the way back in 1990! He played the father of a daughter that had gone to the ER for a mere sore throat but ended up dead because the doctor on call was drunk and had given her medication that she had an adverse reaction to, after receiving some other medication. So, he will always have that great distinction in addition to The West Wing. (The first pilot, "Everybody's Favorite Bagman", was filmed in 1988! The show was offered to CBS, but they passed. In syndication, it is oddly placed as the sixth episode of Season 1. And Roy Thinnes played DA Alfred Wentworth there. When NBC picked up the show two years later, Thinnes declined to return, and that's how we got Steven Hill's DA Adam Schiff.)
    • exactly. I can understand schadenfreude if it were real, but a lot of this is just an engineered distraction.
    • Days of our Lives S60E204 – Thursday, June 5, 2025 Okay, today’s episode was kind of boring. It was nice seeing Jack and Jen back, but they wasted an entire episode on Jen chatting with Julie - one scene would’ve been enough. Also, why didn’t Jack and Jen go comfort Marlena? And wouldn’t a flashback with Jack, Jen, and John have been great? Maybe something from the Cruise of Deception era? Bottom line - it feels like once John’s memorial is over and the returning fan favorites leave Salem… the show’s going to be dull again.
    • Everything with Elon and Trump is a stunt. If people, and the sycophantic press, are talking about their "feud," they are not talking about Republican plans to gut Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA.
    • I can't fully remember, but I don't think they tried to get Beth Chamberlin back. I think Laibson/McTavish likely saw Beth as old news and wanted to move Philip on; either that or have her return only when Philip was closely tied to a new woman. Thanks as always for these recaps. I think I had stopped watching around this time and mostly kept up by reading in the soap magazines. Bridget's degradation was horrible to watch, as the character had grown so much over the years and was clearly regressed just to be a foil for a "hot" couple viewers had zero investment in.
    • Having the majority of the cast on those low numbers is no way to tell story. And just 2 dayplayers for the month. So sad for the #1 soap.
