What is the matter with pimp-age? I don't really have a problem with a "more frontburner" character.

And now I guess I have to apologize...but I wasn't trying to be "showy". I don't know how else to convey that whole idea of "if you can't feed your mouth...you don't have energy to devote to becoming a decent person". Even that is an oversimplification. I cited Maslow because [ a ] I figured most of you saw it in Psych 101, and [ b ] the rest could google it. He said it WAY better than I ever could.

But I wasn't meaning to ... well ... channel another poster who uses a lot of big words and theories. So, for that I apologize.

See, my intent really went awry there. Because there was ZERO condescension intended. I apologize if that is what came across.

And is there a character on this show who ISN'T circular like that? Nikki? Victor? Ashley? Jack? Nick? Sharon? and on and on. Now Billy and Chloe seem to be in the merry-go-round too. I truly don't see Glo as "especially repetitive". That's the whole show.

Indeed it links to a thread from last week. Characters on Y&R often don't show a lot of growth...they repeat the same patterns over and over again.

I'd agree with that, I guess. But again, why is that a problem? Why isn't that a "unique spice" that she brings to the stew-that-is-Y&R. (Note...I wanted to say "melange that is Y&R"...but I thought Khan might slam me for being elitist. Now I'm suddenly struggling with my vocabulary. Did you really mean for me to become self-conscious about my words??).

Perfectly stated! Ashley is the one who was NICE to him. Why would he harm her?

Because he has to be as ruthless as the people who hurt him to get what he wants. Of course he didn't expect Ashley to be nice to him. Everyone in Victor/Jack/Heather's orbit is mean to him, why wouldn't Ashley be as well?

This may complicate things in the end, as it should on a good soap, but Adam won't let it deter him from getting his revenge on these people.

And we might like Heather, I personally do, too (somewhat). But Adam has every right to go after her. She put justice over her love for him. How could he just accept that? He's totally gotta get her back.

So, unlike everyone this board, it seems, I totally hope it's Adam.

He went after Victor, got convicted, then got out of jail.

This could totally happen again.

When Chris first joined the show, he wasn't as integral to the show as he is now, I think. If he was gonna be written out, it would've occurred when he was arrested.

If they were going to go this way with Adam then they probably should have just had him try to kill Ashley. The gaslighting and possible threat to her unborn child is been there, done that. Ashley's gone through mental breakdowns three or four times and is still standing. She's lost babies and is still there. Victor only needed a few months of pouting over losing Sabrina and their unborn child before he was bedding Ashley and planning his new happy family. He'll probably discard Ashley and find a new model, or go back to Nikki. I'm sure Jack will feel sad for Ashley, but he's gone through all this before with her, he will already have plenty on his plate with "Mary Jane" and when he finds out Sharon is pregnant, he might be the father, and Billy has slept with Sharon and might be the father.

The story has no real payoff if the focus is only on poor Ashley and her child, at least not if it involves Adam trying to scheme. It doesn't help that we know Victor will win in the end, because Victor always wins, so Adam is more of a gnat than a villain.

I think you did just fine there.

Of course not! If it's natural for you to cite Maslow, or compare Y&R to a "symphony" or "melange", then do so, and to your heart's content. Don't do it, though, just to show everyone else how "edumacated" you are, or to create the impression that you are the Frasier Crane of Soap Opera Network.

Because, to a cold-hearted, opportunistic sort like Adam, Ashley, no matter how sympathetic she has been toward him, is another chess piece to him.

I don't see anything wrong with Adam being the calculating type, but I'm afraid the show hasn't done a good job of showing the vulnerability underneath all that (and no, just knowing he resents Victor for not being there for him and Hope is not enough). Even Victor has a fraility or two which we are allowed to see in his quieter, more solitary moments.
