OLTL: Discussion for the week April 27

I can see where this might be on the page, but I don't think it shows up in TSJ's performance. I also think having him get custody of the kids was a bad decision. Having him slowly work his way back up to some visitation rights would have been more of a sacrifice.

I just put in the street address of the OLTL studios at Google maps, and it says at this address is Nathan Purdee.

Now I doubt Hank Gannon spends his weekends having out at the OLTL studios. :P

Now, when I zoom in to the front of the building, you can see someone (Hillary B. Smith perhaps?) being photographed near the front door. Not sure exactly when Google took this image, but it is still funny nonetheless.

You know they should really have Jessica and Todd run in to each other one day. I don't think they have ever been in a scene together since the end of the rapemance. Hopefully after Jessica finds out that her baby died she will feel the need to yell at Todd since he can be seen as somewhat responsible for it (Him not telling anybody that Jess was Tess again) .

And yeah The Cole stuff was pretty funny. BTW how are Viki and Powell related?

I was getting really upset this week when Todd got custody of the kids and paraded around Dorian's mansion with complete power. My problem is that I am not sure that we're supposed to be angry with Todd - are we supposed to be cheering the "poor guy" on to succeed and get his kids? That's been my main problem with the Ron Carlivati era since he returned from the writer's strike. Todd's being written as a monster, pig, sexist, abusive prick but just when things get really bad they try to redeem him. I really don't have any sympathy for a man who is tormented by the 'demons of his past' when those demons are that he brutally raped an incapacitated young woman at a frat party in college and then proceeded to wreak havoc on her life for the next fifteen years. I don't care if he's in love with Marty, if he's sorry, if he feels sexually inadequate or wants to love his kids in an honest and innocent way - the man's an evil monster. He's Victor Lord Jr. I don't want to root for him.

It's actually Powell Lord III....although they don't mention the last part much these days.

Anyway, Powell Lord (the first) and Victor Lord were brothers. This makes him cousins with Viki, Todd, and Tina.

Also (and this was before my time), but Victor and Powell also had a sister named Gwendolyn. She married Jonathan Abbott. Their son Richard was a reporter for cousin Viki at The Banner. Richard married Becky Lee Hunt, who would later go on to marry Bo (as well as Asa), and give birth to Bo's son Drew, who of course died several years ago. Stress following a miscarriage ended Becky Lee's marriage to Richard Abbott.

One good thing about bringing back Powell is that it reminds viewers that the infamous Lord clan, one of OLTL's original families.

And even though their last names have changed through marriage, there are actually quite a number of people in Llanview at the moment that have the Lord blood in their veins. Of course there is Viki and Todd, but also Natalie, Jessica, Starr, Jack, Sam, Bree, and Chloe/Hope. And when you factor in those once/currently married to a Lord, you can throw in Clint, Blair, Tea, and Dorian.

I can't speak for recently but Todd and Jessica

have had scenes together

They have amazing on-screen chemistry and

it was during the time they kept TSJ's Todd out of a lot

of scenes with actress' characters he has amazing screen presence

with (IMO) I know they are related but just saying...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-1r6P3cggI...feature=related

They had a scene at his newspaper the Sun once

they don't have them often but there are some

I think we're supposed to root for Todd above everyone in the family but Starr. That's why they made sure we knew he wasn't being nice enough to Starr. He has to show her what a good man he is, that is when he isn't abusing her in one way or another. It's a very sick way of writing a "good" father, as OLTL sees Todd. He treats his kids like pawns and he has hurt them in too many ways to count, but every blue moon, he feels bad or half-apologizes (if TSJ can manage to not smirk through the scene), so he's Ward Cleaver.

And Tony and Meredith, but Tony and Meredith are (presumed) dead, so don't worry about them. (P3's also cousins with Danny, Meredith's son by Dr. Larry Wolek; but TPTB have forgotten all about the Woleks, and you should, too.)

I realize I don't have the world's best memory, but I swear to you: before Michael Malone introduced P3 for the "Spring Fling" gang rape storyline, Victor never had a brother named Powell. And if he had, the show rarely, if ever, mentioned him.

Now, Gwendolyn...I remember her. And, if I'm not mistaken, she had a sordid past, too, as a stripper. (Gotta love dem Lords, lol!)

Thanks for the memory jog, Scotty! :)

Actually, leevo, I feel the opposite; Viki needs a sibling who isn't maladjusted or grossly disturbed. Which is why I never will understand why OLTL had to kill off Tony or Meredith.

Well technically, I believe that Tony is only presumed dead since I don't think they ever found the body. Meredith however, died onscreen I believe (which I know means something in soapland, but still...).

True, but he might as well be really-and-truly dead (and not just "soap opera dead") since OLTL only rarely remembers him.

If only there were some way to tie him into a character who is on the canvas but has no visible family ties...like Brody.

There could be....if not Brody, what about Schuyler, Rex, or others. Notice I left out Kyle. There's a reason for that. He's about to be connected to someone else. ;)

    • I don't really care about what the men are wearing, or not wearing.   What I care about is focusing on the writing and character development for each of the male characters. Andre really doesn't have a lot of character development that sets him apart from the other male characters except that he seems content to be degraded and mistreated by the elitist Dani.  I would like to know why a good looking younger guy like Andre would willingly be at the mercy of an emotional vampire such as Dani.   Martin, on the other hand, seems to have decent character development.. and it is partly due to how the actor chooses to recite his lines.  Martin was raised in a very privileged household and probably went to the best schools... so it makes sense that he would come across as thinking he was above everyone else.  Most people raised in a upper class situation as the Duprees would view themselves as better than others (it's the same trait Dani seems to employ on those she feels superior to). It makes me wonder how Nicole came out of that family being so warm and nurturing  when her family dynamics seemed very appearance oriented.
    • I know, right. I after just re-reading the thread, I'm like ooppph!
    • Lulu and Dante were divorced before her coma, but she was still in love with him.  He just didn't know.  They haven't been married for years.    I was pretty mixed about Lulu getting involved when it was just a child out there in the world, but now that she realizes it's Gio I am okay with her telling Dante.  It also is her son's sibling.  I still think it's BLQ's choice though.  Lulu is in a rough spot because I think Dante will be mad if she keeps it a secret and Chase, Brook, Lois, etc will be mad if Lulu tells. Without veering too far into the classic area of the show, I had no problem with Robin telling AJ about Michael.  It may not have *exactly* been her place, but she could see how Carly was manipulating the entire situation.  It also ruined her romantic relationship with Jason for good.  Jason and Sonny were furious with Robin and practically ran her out of town, so I think we were to believe she was the bad guy.  It was a bit out of character for Robin to spill, but KMc was leaving the show.
    • Rewatching/binging THE X-FILES Seasons 1 and 2 (almost done). So much fun re-experiencing, especially re-discovering some of the monster-of-the-week stories. THE WEST WING Seasons 1 and 2 as well - so good to rewatch now with 20 years more life experience and understanding. ALSO.... lol FOOTBALLERS' WIVES Season 3, which is just as bonkers as I remember and so so so so fun. I had forgotten about that iconic season cliffhanger. Good times. Excited to rewatch Seasons 4 and 5 since I remember so very little about them. Hope you've been enjoying!
    • @Toups Tyler Topits listed in alpha order with the breakdown writers 5/12 Monday episode. O'Connor still listed as both breakdown and script writer. Kreizman wrote today's script.
    • Marland was long gone by this point.  He quit in either August/September 1982. I think it was due to letting the actress play out her contract and use her for party scenes and/or scenes with Phillip/Justin.   I was surprised she was still on in June 1983 myself, because I figured she had been written out before Pam Long joined the writing staff. Thankfully, having episodes uploaded during this period on Spauldingfield YT site has helped to connect some of the dots.  It looks as though Pam Long starts the first week or so of May 1983.. and in those first few weeks: Morgan and Evie were both written off and Lillian/Mindy/Billy/Beth/Annabelle all come onto the show.
