Props to Bruce Evans for supporting Days. Hopefully, he wasn't just doing PR and really is trying to save Days.

I watch two and a half men reruns all the time.

Okay. I now know someone. No harm meant.

That's the most shocking part. LOL.

haha I know, right? It would be pretty ironic if Days outlives all the other soaps considering it's on the network that hates soaps!

I'd really like to know what kind of numbers those reruns on cable networks get. Law & Order, ER, Charmed and the like. That's what I watch when I have the day off. Also does anyone have numbers for the Telemundo and Univision's daytime programming?

Brad Bell said in SOD they (reruns, cable) don't get NEARLY the numbers of soaps.

They probably don't get high ratings against soaps on an individual basis, but I'm sure if you add together reruns of shows like the CSIs, L&Os, and others, and put them up against soaps, they take a sizable chunk out of the soaps' ratings.

IMO, the main cause for people not watching soaps much anymore is that people are A, not at home during the daytime, and B, if they are, they're watching cable. I don't think good shows would bring the ratings up, but they'd most likely bring up the number of online views and TiVo/DVR recordings, etc.

Well, a newsflash for ya. :P As much as it's lovely to see Bruce defend it, he'll actually have no say if someone "up there" decides to cancel it. He is overseen by at least two people: Erin Gough Wehrenberg (to whom he responds directly) and Zucker, of course.

Yes, yes and yes - I wouldn't put much stock into any sound byte Evans makes.

(Sylph, we really have to stop meeting like this. LOL!)

Roger Newcomb has these new ratings for Soapnet (press release, so "spin alert"). Note the absence of GH...which appears to be tanking on both the network and the cable channel.

I'm a little surprised nothing is here about the "prized" acquisitions, like 90210, OTH, Melrose, He's Not That Into You (or whatever the thing is called) or Being Erica.

In a new ratings release out today, SOAPnet is reporting that 1Q09 ranks as the network's most-watched quarter ever, driven by record deliveries for ALL MY CHILDREN and THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and near-record levels for ONE LIFE TO LIVE.

Day/Date Sales Prime (M-F, 7:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.)

In 1Q09, powered by record deliveries for "All My Children" and a near-record performance for "One Life to Live," SOAPnet registered its largest quarterly audience on record in the key daypart in Total Viewers (455,000), and ranked second among all quarters in Women 18-49 (159,000).

Compared to 1Q08, SOAPnet jumped by 20% in Total Viewers (455,000 vs. 378,000) and by 17% in Women 18-49 (159,000 vs. 136,000).

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS (M-F, 7:00-8:00 p.m.)

Growing its audience for the third straight quarter, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS posted the show's best quarterly ratings ever on SOAPnet in Total Viewers (746,000) and Women 18-49 (254,000).

Versus year-ago levels, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS improved by a hefty 45% in Total Viewers (746,000 vs. 513,000) and by 60% in Women 18-49 (254,000 vs. 159,000).

ALL MY CHILDREN (M-F, 8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Delivering its third consecutive quarter of growth, 1Q09 qualified as ALL MY CHILDREN's most-watched quarter ever in its nine years on SOAPnet in Total Viewers (468,000), and delivered the series' third-largest Women 18-49 quarterly audience ever (162,000).

Versus year-ago levels, ALL MY CHILDREN outperformed by 37% in both Total Viewers (468,000 vs. 342,000) and Women 18-49 (162,000 vs. 118,000).

ONE LIFE TO LIVE (M-F, 9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Boasting 1Q best deliveries, ONE LIFE TO LIVE tallied the show's second largest audience on SOAPnet ever in Total Viewers (410,000), behind only 4Q08. In Women 18-49, this was the series' third most-watched quarter on record in Women 18-49 (150,000).

Year-to-Year, ONE LIFE TO LIVE jumped by 19% in Total Viewers (410,000 vs. 344,000) and by 21% in Women 18-49 (150,000 vs. 124,000).

Melrose was mercilessly plucked off the lineup in favor of more 90210 several months ago, so yeah. I'm really interested in how the daytime teen dramas do. I imagine OTH might do well with the college crowd, but if its the high schoolers they're going after, those folks are still in school. Though OTH might be expected to skew just a tad bit older than the high school demo because its original core audience is now college-aged. The OC probably does better than OTH.

I'm interested in how that crapfest, Being Erica, I think that's what it's called, is doing. It is their only original programming right now, I believe.
