OLTL: Discussion for the week March 9

Well, isn't Llanview just such a cheerful, loving place these days?

Dead babies, cancer, paralysis, drugs, serial killers, multiple personalities, and car crashes.

Just leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, doesn't it? :P

Another wonderful episode.

I am tired after a long day at work so I will only leave my UO's.

UO on this board but I like the entire Rex/Gigi/Stacy storyline because it is a soapy mess. One thing it is doing is bringing up a lot of questions about Rex/Gig's relationship. Fath has improved and making me feel Gigi's pain. Stacy is hated character but soaps need these type of characters. I see her screwing with half of Llanview by time she is done.

Another UO opinion but OLTL is on a roll, this entire week has been highly entertaining.

That's OK. I agree with your UO. This show is beating the heck out of Days (not that it's a difficult thing to do :P )

And yes, I think FF has improved. She is still inconsistent, but the drama is a little bit better. I can't stand Stacy, though. I mean, it's not even a love to hate. I just want her gone. That's where I veer off your UO a little bit.

Hillary Smith-awesome this week, as was Woods. Just awesome.

I am happy that finally on a soap...two characters actually putting 2 and 2 togteher and getting 4. Loved seeing Nat/Jared figuring out about Chloe being Starr's baby. Usually characters are dense, but Jarlie picked it up real fast.

I really enjoyed the last two day's shows.

1) Bo and Nora were great. I love that these two capable veterans are getting some meaty material and they were perfection. I felt their complete and total resignation and utter devastation.

2) I loved Clint and Roxy in the roles of the people who in spite of the tragedy urged everyone to FIGHT! JvD was perfect in the role of supportive lover and champion big brother, and Ilene Kristen is proving once again she handles dramatic material as well as comedic.

3) I even liked Gigi and Rex today. And Stacy was more tolerable around Schuyler, the guy who's known her for a decade and doesn't fall for any of her crap. I liked her with Roxy and we're getting more of that, so I intend to enjoy it.

4) Jared and Natalie were at their savvy best today. They're so couply and I think they prove that couples can be committed and not on the verge of a breakup or dealing with an interloper, and still be interesting. I've longed for this. John Brotherton may have his flaws, but he's really remarkable in scenes that aren't focused on his character. Unlike many others I could name, he remains in character and his reactions to the dialogue that goes on around him are perfectly in pitch. It's one of the things I enjoy most about this performer. He always brings it all to the table, even when it would be so easy to just stand around like a prop.

5) I enjoyed Marcie and Starr today. I thought Kathy Brier toned down her screech to play the supportive grownup who is sharing a tremendous loss with a very youthful Starr. KA got a bit much for me, but KB balanced those scenes very well.

FINALLY! I like Brody and Jessica's kiss. I personally have always found BW's Jessica totally lacking in sexual chemistry. She's beautiful, and she can play trampy well when she's in Tess mode, but I've never found her really believable in any romance thus far. Brody may be the turning point. Their first kiss was all it should have been. I would have never believed there was a path to me becoming a Jessica fan, but I really liked them.

No, there was no Viki this week at all, no Charlie for many weeks.

I really hate the Viki has no story and that Charlie has been booted out of town. Really a travesty to me how they waste Erika Slezak and now Brian Kerwin too. I hate RC and Frons for this.

I thought Viki was on this week. Maybe I'm getting last week and this week confused :( I have noticed there hasn't been any Charlie in the last 2 weeks. This is awful. Hopefully we'll see Charlie next week. I know I saw Viki in an upcoming spoiler. Sigh . . .

    • NBC must have been grateful to have LHOTP, it's only hit and still strong after several seasons. Their next established show was Rockford Files at 45th. They didn't develop any comedies and relied on movies and mini series  which didnt establish viewer loyalty and habits. Their only new hit was mid season's Project UFO which debuted Feb up against Rhoda/On Our Own on CBS and How the West Was Won on ABC. It opened with a strong 36 share beating CBS and close to ABC as HTWWW had a 36 share over 3 hours. The next week UFO saw a respectable 32 share, then a 31 so it was slipping. A 28 share followed but a few weeks later it jumped back up to a 34. So no blockbuster but compared to what else they had, there was potential, So next season NBC sent it to Thursday up against Mork and The Waltons and it bombed.  They were smart to see potential in Chips, which took off on Saturdaysnext season. ABC was on a roll with Love Boat, 3's Company, Taxi, Eight is Enough adding to their hits. Their only real flops were Redd Foxx and San Pedro Beach Bums, an Aaron Spelling misfire. Like Redd Foxx, Harvey Korman was lured to ABC but his series was a filler that did well but was considered a time slot hit. Nancy Walker and Rob Reiner were also given series on the philosophy that not only were they popular names, their absence from popular shows like Sanford, Rhoda and All in the Family might weaken those shows. CBS were relying on old favorites. Betty White was strong the first few weeks then faded. Incredible Hulk was their strongest newbie. It was lucky for CBS that NBC was doing so badly or else some of their weaker shows would have really suffered.
    • That outfit looks like something Martin would wear lol.
    • Omg not we both ran into people from the show this weekend!
    • I guess he was let out the gates, because he's outside.
    • Yup.  You can hate John all you want, but like seriously he was the cornerstone of the show for years.  So he should get a long ass funeral and burial and all the things because Drake and John deserve that.

      look who’s at a party I’m at
    • Yes. We should absolutely move on from John/Drake's 40 year legacy on the show to see what Leo is going to do tomorrow.  Lol.  This can't be a serious post.

I came in with a dream and left with a purpose. From lecture halls to rehearsals, community work to creative sets, every moment shaped me. I’m so proud of the stories I’ve told here — and the ones still unfolding. Grateful to everyone who poured into me, supported me, challenged me, and believed in me. Fours up and peace out! #UCLA #ClassOf2025 #BlackBruinExcellence #YearbookVideo @jordanward
    • The actor who plays Martin has been teasing that nobody has guessed Martin's secret. I love that for things like that and the June story we have no idea. I feel like if we didn't have the day ahead feeds Anita's reveal would've been shocking as well. I love that they aren't going the obvious route with these stories.
