Members DRW50
Thank you. I'd forgotten about the Mission Impossible story. Michelle hanging upside down...and yet I think I liked that more than most of the other stories NSA's Michelle had.
Members MichaelGL
I gotta say I enjoyed Alan/Olivia/Josh during that time. However it was the only bright spot for a tenure filled with clunkers.
Members DRW50
I liked today's show. Perhaps a bit too slow and character-driven, which might push some viewers into turning the channel, but I tend to prefer those days. I think we're continuing to see the lines blur between the Spauldings and Coopers. Marina took the deed back and instead of going on about what the Spauldings owed her family, she just said she was the only one in the family who was going to put their needs above their pride. I wish Company had gone to someone else (Mitch's idea in the Kim thread about Reva running the diner is GREAT -- Hawk used to run Company, remember?), but I did like those scenes. The brief scene between Phillip and Rick, Rick's continued wariness, was good, although I wish they had built this up more, instead of Rick making few appearances, and in his last appearances, seeming OK with Phillip at the reunion. The Otalia stuff was also quite good, particularly the scene with Doris. I'm liking the increased number of female friendships on the show. Members P.J.
How friggin' precious is Emma? That meeting with Phillip today was heartbreaking.
Members Rakesh
I was JUST about to post about them. ITA with you! I would like to see some father-daughter bonding with them.
Members DRW50
It was nice to see Phillip having scenes with a daughter besides Lizzie. They're very cute together, you could see his whole face light up when he ran into Emma. I'm glad she's genuinely happy to see him and wants her father, instead of just thinking he's going to kidnap her, like his older kids believe. Members MichaelGL
Uh oh, Lizzie's going to go back to her panic mode. (Like when she thought Phillip had kidnapped her) Let the screeching begin.
Members AllAboutAngst
I am so damn sick of the Coopers. If that whole clan of dull do-gooders fell off the planet tomorrow it wouldn't be soon enough for me. Justin Deas rocks but the saintly Coopers vs. the evil Spauldings is lame, overdone and never ever worked (and is Frank not the dumbest character ever). I know the a lot of people prefer Mallet and Dinah to Mallet and Marina, and while I liked them too, Mallet has become so boring and self-righteous himself he might as well be a Cooper, no reunion please. I have read entirely too many comments about how he sucks without Dinah and if that is so, maybe the character just needs to go. I don't necessarily agree that Dinah needs to be saddled with him because he doesn't work elsewhere. Unpop opinion, Bill and Lizzie are beyond annoying. They were fine at first, but now they have this whole lame "us against the world" attitude where they do nothing but discuss how evil Alan, Phillip, and Dinah are trying to destroy their love and blah blah blah. It amazes me how so many people in Springfield develop amnesia about their own wrong deeds and stick their noses up at others. The sole reasons for watching this show remain CC/Otalia, Gina T's Dinah, and Grant/Phillip. As far as GT's acting, she's commented on some of Dinah's tics (stuttering, talking with her hands at times and dropping certain letters) before and why she uses them in certain situations (mostly when Dinah feels trapped or desperate). I wish I could find the article, but it was pretty interesting. I know she talks to herself a lot before she films scenes, especially big ones where Dinah has to be a darker character. I think Laura Wright even said Gina used to lock herself in a room and talk or even yell at herself when Dinah had to go really really dark. I think its kinda cool, you don't see that kind of commitment in daytime. Speaking of actors, I must say, Jessica L has improved leaps and bounds. She's become a very capable actress in what feels like a very short amount of time to me. Back to GT, I think the fact that she's raw and probably the most intense actress in daytime is one of the best things about her (and I don't know where that came from because she was pretty average on OLTL). Another unpop opinion, while I hate the Coopers, I think I might be the only person who sees potential in Daisy. She needs a lot of work, but I just remember the abortion story and how much I enjoyed the character with Reva and Harley.
Members MichaelGL
With the exception of the Coopers teaching little Henry to hate the Spauldings (WTF? It's this kinda stuff that make me despise the Coopers. Will they hate James too?), this episode is awesome. Who knew that a scene between Edmund, Shayne, and Olivia would be so fun. CC has chemistry with both DAM and the nuShayne, but that's no surprise. Gotta get back to watching the show, but I'll list today's high and low points later. Members AllAboutAngst
I couldn't enjoy today's show for the first couple of scenes alone. Daisy and Buzz teaching Henry to hate the Spauldings and then Mallet saying "just remember Henry, we are the good guys." WE GET IT GL! Spauldings=evil, and Coopers=all that is good and pure. Any scene with two or more members of that crew is always eyeroll-worthy. The Olivia, Edmund, Shayne scenes would have beeen funny had I not been sitting there wondering why and how the hell Emma wandered to Phillip's trial to testify all by herself while her mother was drunk off her ass playing Guitar Hero. That was pretty stupid considering that since Phillip's return we've heard nothing but how terrified Olivia is of Phillip taking Emma frm her and how Phillip has to prove himself to have any type of relationship with her. Phillip/Emma > Phillip/Lizzie IMO
Guest dc cubs
I agree that the big WTF moment of today's show was how Emma was at the courthouse. She called Beth and wanted to help her daddy? How did she get there? I don't think Olivia or Natalia knew anything about it. It may have been Jane the babysitter who will be out of a job very soon if that was the case. Jackie, the actress who plays Emma is adorable and I too have loved her scenes with Phillip yesterday and today.
Members DRW50
But aside from Alan, none of the Spauldings are being written as evil, and most of the Coopers aren't being written as good and pure. Buzz and Daisy are screwed up and Mallet just stole a baby. I'm probably giving GL too much credit, but I take scenes like that as showing how hypocritical and moralistic the Coopers have become. Even if the writing is too stacked on their side, I don't know if GL would have them brainwashing a baby if they wanted us to only root for them. Members Mitch
I think you are giving the writers too much credit. I think we ARE supposed to think the Super Duper Coopers are the saints in this game....hell, remember when Harley was going around screwing her nieces lover...we were still supposed to root for Harley cause, you know, it was all Alex's fault that she was trapped in that building with whatever his name is. I think another problem is that the actors are playing the scenes with no hint of anything deeper going on. Marina, married to a nonrepentant hired killer (which, to me is worse then someone who kills out of passion or a pscyhosis) acts like her chipper little [!@#$%^&*] doenst stink. We dont see Bruno giving us any kind of conflicting emotions about Mallet and their superior attitude..and we certainly dont see Bogue give Mallet the kind of gravitas he should have (and even had when Derwin was playing him) considering the is a killer and just stole a baby....all we see is Bogue trying to act like a hardy good guy yelling "We have to find a godparent for my boy!" and laughing about how whipped he is. The drama is (and what would make this couple easier to swallow) Marina clinged on to yet another father figure and is trying to create a fantasy family, to recreate her own Cooper clan to be the anthesis of what her family history reallly is. We should see that Mallet is clinging to her to try and give himself some kind of redemption, as if Marina's inante "niceness," could save him, so he was forced to participate in her delusions by stealing the baby. We should also see him totally repent his past deeds, not do, what all of Wheeler's characters do, try to blame it on someone else (or boo hoo, Harley broke up with you, man up wussy, hell, being married to that shrew would force me to kill!) We see Frank go on and on about how great it is to be a Cooper, and he isnt being ironic and the writing isnt acting as if he is delusional, when we all saw the Cooper family history and we all saw what he felt about his mother and father abondoning him to raise Harley. I do appreciate that Phillip is being back to being slightley dark but still trying to be good Phillip. However, both Alex and Lizzie are shown to be quiet supporters of Alan..which makes them EVIL in their own way. The show has gotten better, but it has a long way to go still and a lot of hard work needs to be done.
Members DRW50
I agree with you about Harley, but she left town last year. Since then, Alex only makes rare appearances (and in her last one she was only concerned with Lizzie going crazy the way Phillip did), Lizzie seems naive more than evil, Phillip is basically a good guy, and even though Alan's still a jerk, his role in Coop's death was much more ambiguous than what he did to Tammy. The Spauldings and the Coopers are still both too close to one dimension, but I don't know if the writing is trying to sell them as bad against good now. They just don't really know how to work with most of the characters, especially in the Cooper family. I can see why people feel the way they do though, don't get me wrong. Members DAMfan
Edmund/Olivia have known each since they teens - Liv worked at the palace then she may have known Rachel - maybe she knew Rachel was preggers with Eddie's baby Lara - I have wanting a storyline with Edmund/Liv for a long time we should have been seeing more scenes like this between E/O and want to see more - can you imagine what these two were like when they were wild teens and I am so tired of the cancer and heart depressing stories - the O/E/S PARTY was fun and what GL needs more of.
