This is exactly how it feels. It doesn’t help that the way they write and shoot the show means these ill defined people just disappear for days, sometimes weeks at a time.
It was a huge mess while it was happening, but Mulcahey very strategically moving people into clearly set character hubs was trying to address some of this back then. Much like the last couple of months though nothing felt like an actual story, so all the shuffling stood out a lot.
All these newbies would really benefit from some specificity and support within the structure of the show. Detective Joe has the police, but I feel like he has more scenes with Lucas and the DA than Dante, Chase, and Anna. And even those folks I would say only Anna and Dante have a real connection. The new doctor just shows how lifeless the connections feel at GH right now. We have Liz, Portia, Isaiah, Britt, and folks like Felicia and Aunt Stella at the hospital, but do they feel connected at all? This is no Steve, Jessie, Audrey, Dan, Gail, Rick, Alan, Monica, Amy, Lesley grouping of colleagues and friends. Or even Robin, Patrick, Matt, Noah, Liz, Steve etc from JFP’s era. All the ties with the WSB have evaporated, and having Joss be in a company with one other character is just stupid. At least Serena, also ill defined and poorly set up, had Deception and Lucy.
