OLTL: Discussion for the week January 26

It's one of the areas he needs to grow and be more consistent with. He is a great writer and he hits more balls than he misses, but he needs to grow and become more consistent in certain things. The Todd/Marty thing was just right for me as an old time soap viewer. It brewed and simmered at the right pace and really worked people into a frenzy and then exploded.

But with the Natalie thing here he needed more build up before Natalie exploded. Even though I felt her when she was talking to Vicki, I still couldn't help but think that it came out of nowhere.

I guess if you were enjoying the Todd/Marty interaction the pacing may have been just right.

As for Natalie's blow up at Viki, I didn't find that so out of left field. She'd only just found out that Jessica deliberately unleashed Tess. As a fan of Natalie, for years I've been annoyed that she gives Jessica a free pass. The scenes after she and Jared were freed from the SR irritated me because Natalie was still so obsequeous. Natalie has always made a distinct separation between Jessica and Tess. So it made sense to me that once Jessica admitted that she called Tess forth, that the blinders came off for Natalie and she finally gets that Tess is just a fragment of Jessica's personality that is always in existence even when Jessica is integrated. Once that reality set in for her, I was thrilled to see her fury, and felt it was totally justified.

Would that I could feel bad for Nat. I got nuthin'.

I would love it if David was setting Dorian up, already aware that he's the Buke heir.

1 - Dorian pretty much left him penniless and on the run the last time he was in town (destroying his relationship with Addie - whatever THAT was.

2 - How could he NOT love a penniless Dorian at his mercy?

Imagine that he's already struck a deal with Moe and is planning to make Dorian beg to get her fortune back. There's no way this guy has made a real change, and therefore no way he's let her give up her fortune without thinking of how to get a piece of it for himself.

I would feel more for for Natalie if this had built up, instead of Natalie mooning around for months until suddenly she snaps. I'd also care more about David if they weren't using him as a joke until this endless Buchanan heir story finally ends. OLTL would improve if they started writing for the characters as more than chess pieces.

Why is Rex so smug towards Dorian every time he sees her? She even gave his kid a game system. I thought the interminable months with his great love Gigi would make him less of a craphead.

Cole on drugs is a strangely entertaining storyline.

I'm a little wary of Natalie and Jared always watching Chloe. Wouldn't it be so like them to get attached and fight for custody saying Jess is a mentally unfit mother and they have bonded with the child?? Lorrrd, all we need is for that baby to call Natalie "Mommy". And what a blow up mess it would be when the truth about Starr being the mother came out...

I mentioned yesterday that I think Natalie might want custody. I dont mind her watching Chloe bc really who else is doing it? Its either Natalie or some random nanny. Viki's around to help but she's busy with Jessica, her relationship with Charlie and has the Banner (which is offscreen since they rarely mention it anymore). Cant you just picture a 4 way custody battle with all 4 mothers fighting? Natalie, Jessica, Starr and Marcie? Oh brother....

good lord is Jessica's doctor some type of quack? He honestly thinks Jessica is fine to go home? What progress has she made? She is not integrated and Tess and Bess continue to randomly pop out. Im upset with Viki for not putting her foot down and following her gut instinct and own experience here by demanding that the doctor reconsider. Tess tried to murder Natalie and given how Natalie has recently expressed her feelings on that topic, why would Viki be so willingly to just unleash her again? I dont see her throwing Natalie out of the house nor Jess and having Nat with an unstable Jessica is beyond wrong and unhealthy for both, not to mention the kids. The girl is a mess and no better than when she entered St. Annes 3 months ago

    • Love this! You are both adorable. Wow
    • I have not gone back to watch much of 1987, but from what I've seen lately, it doesn't feel like the writers or producers had any sort of plan. The show feels as if it's constantly in flux.  I will give it credit for this. It's watchable for the most part minus Lisa/Jamie which I find nearly unwatchable now.   I don't find Cheryl mousy. I think she has a lot of quiet strength, but she was saddled with the Scott romance which the writers did not invest in. She had a good friendship with Julie (also criminally underused), and her interactions with Ada were enjoyable as well. I also like Layman, but Spencer was extremely talented and when Cass returns, Schnetzer and Spencer have some wonderful scenes. Spencer also fits in with Alexander, Hogan, and Marie.  I'd forgotten just how much I missed seeing Wallingford. IT was so good to see him again. Even when they didn't have a major plot, Felicia/Cass/Wallingford/Mitch always brings a smile to my face.
    •   Dani’s cute ass party planner. He gave me some tea but I was so drunk I don’t remember it.
    • NBC must have been grateful to have LHOTP, it's only hit and still strong after several seasons. Their next established show was Rockford Files at 45th. They didn't develop any comedies and relied on movies and mini series  which didnt establish viewer loyalty and habits. Their only new hit was mid season's Project UFO which debuted Feb up against Rhoda/On Our Own on CBS and How the West Was Won on ABC. It opened with a strong 36 share beating CBS and close to ABC as HTWWW had a 36 share over 3 hours. The next week UFO saw a respectable 32 share, then a 31 so it was slipping. A 28 share followed but a few weeks later it jumped back up to a 34. So no blockbuster but compared to what else they had, there was potential, So next season NBC sent it to Thursday up against Mork and The Waltons and it bombed.  They were smart to see potential in Chips, which took off on Saturdaysnext season. ABC was on a roll with Love Boat, 3's Company, Taxi, Eight is Enough adding to their hits. Their only real flops were Redd Foxx and San Pedro Beach Bums, an Aaron Spelling misfire. Like Redd Foxx, Harvey Korman was lured to ABC but his series was a filler that did well but was considered a time slot hit. Nancy Walker and Rob Reiner were also given series on the philosophy that not only were they popular names, their absence from popular shows like Sanford, Rhoda and All in the Family might weaken those shows. CBS were relying on old favorites. Betty White was strong the first few weeks then faded. Incredible Hulk was their strongest newbie. It was lucky for CBS that NBC was doing so badly or else some of their weaker shows would have really suffered.
    • That outfit looks like something Martin would wear lol.
    • Omg not we both ran into people from the show this weekend!
    • I guess he was let out the gates, because he's outside.
    • Yup.  You can hate John all you want, but like seriously he was the cornerstone of the show for years.  So he should get a long ass funeral and burial and all the things because Drake and John deserve that.
