True but as someone pointed out before OLTL and AMC had 2.4 mil viewers last year. So they had no where but to go up. They were so low last year. Although, they could have gone down further. Compare that with ATWT which had 3.1 million viewers last year and it now has 2.9 million this year. Thats down 200,000. So they had more wiggle room to drop...LOL. I just dont get the GH love. I dont even see it being discussed anymore at SON. So posters must not be watching it anymore or liking it.

I'm predicting 2.3 or higher for OLTL and AMC on average in 2009 and Y&R back to the 3.9-4.4 range on average. Only thing that can stop it is DTV in February.

Soapsuds, I'm glad I'm not a writer, must be stressful to write for 5 shows every week. LOL!

Every soap fan should be happy especially since this is a critical time for this genre to be doing well in the ratings since TV ratings are going down every year due to other options expanding.

If I'm this happy then the networks and advertisers must be super happy. The demos are pretty strong this week too.

I will agree with you that there are still some negatives during the week especially some soaps dropping, but the Friday during that week was pretty positive since this had been a day where soaps seem to drop the most.

I think soap audiences differ day by day and some are choosing to watch live and on DVR.

I agree, that's the positives with the ABC soaps right now including DAYS. They are up year to year while GH is the only one down. That means ABC is in store for a strong 2009 from both AMC and OLTL improving in their ratings as they're audiences are slowly starting to pickup consistently. OLTL is still ABC's top soap right now in quality, but GH is still the king in ratings. That quality from OLTL is bound to pay off big time in '09.

I really wish this were true.

I hate seeing OLTL so low in the ratings- even the 18-49 sucks.

There is now way OLTL will hit a 2.3, It will be lucky to stay at 2.0...

I am at the point where I don't even want to look at the ratings anymore.

The biggest thing that bothers me re: OLTL is the fact that Carlivati may end up getting replaced with another damn hack.

Carlivati is far from perfect, but I think he is pretty damn wonderful- and is the best OLTL is going to get.

If its true that GL has to hit a 1.9 to even stay alive, and if OLTL does not at least get some 18-49 demo action (which it used to do well in) I think its just a matter of time..

All of OLTL's numbers suck- in every demo. ABC lives and dies by the 18-49.

I am very surprised that they are letting GH sink away into nothingness...

And all this stuff at DC regarding AMC being "this closed" to cancelled really surprises me and doesn't bode well.

The snow though didn't hit toward the end of that week - not at least the snow that tied people to home. The big HH numbers came earlier in the week for most shows and lower numbers were toward the end when people would have been snow bound.

I think a big part of it can be attributed to better writing. At least 3 of the shows are in lots better shape than they were this time last year. And throw Days in which to me even though it has big problems resembles Days more than it did last year. I think that is the biggest thing that is helping Days is that it actually feels like Days when you watch it.

Even though the dialogue and stuff was better under Hogan Sheffers' team (had nothign to do with him) there wasn't a time when I watched it that I felt like I was watching DAys.

And that is the way I feel when I watch Y&R and AMC both now and I didn't feel that way this time last year. Both shows didn't even resemble what they should have.

That helps big time when a show embraces its identity.

As far as no one discussing GH here. I think it has more to do with where they are discussing it. Many of the Days members left here and they now are a big part of Days discussion on another board. And the same for the GH posters those posters are still posting big time about the show on another board. So I don't think it has anything to do with the quality of the show that it is not being discussed here.

I am happy for these ratings.

BTW Here is the same week for the last 3 years:

I'm waiting to pass judgement on GL until the new year and all the big returns happen.

Y&R is great and they deserve big numbers. I was actually surprised about ATWT. Haven't watched in so long, and I had no idea it was getting good. Does this mean Paul/Meg are no more?

The thing is everyone keeps dissing GL like it is the black plague. Ellen Wheeler you can hate her for all she is worth but the show has money in the bank. Alot of people have talked abut how much money Ellen has saved and the show is turning a small profit. AMC on the other hand really is in trouble, as we just got word ABC almost cancelled it due to high budget costs. The show's budget needs to come down. Actually GL has more money in the bank then AMC, isn't that sad? Grant's return is everything for GL, IMO it's the shows last chance. Why would Wheeler/CBS/P&G invite all the bloggers to GL set to talk GL? They want the buzz/hype for Grant's return. The promo for Grant's return looks fabulous. There are rumors David Kriezman might be let go from the show and Jill Lorie Hurst will be sole head writer. Hurst is alot better then Kriezman. OLTL though had the highest surge in viewers this week. Tea's return has been a good one for OLTL. I think it is funny AMC/OLTL's ratings are higher this year then a year ago. Chuck Pratt's arrival for AMC has been better for the show but the show needs a new exec producer.

I have tried getting into GL again but cant. It's like watching a play at a local high school. The production values are just so bad that it cant get me passed anything else. The writing is shitty still so that doesnt help either.

Example:Seeing Reva with Jeffrey(who I hate as a couple) smooching it up in a dreary office probably occupied by Wheeler doesnt make me want to watch at all!

    • There's some irony in Philip being forgiven, because it forces everyone to admit that Victor was wrong to change his will.  Everyone, eventually including Xander, (I presume), seems to think it was wrong for Victor to divide his estate in Xander's favor.  I appreciated Stephanie forgiving Philip, because she's got no skin in that game.  But, Belle's line about Philip missing Xander because he misses Bo did not ring true.  I think Philip would be sad if Bo dies, but I think he's more concerned currently about Xander. I am enjoying this EJ mystery so much that I am hereby taking a vow not to read spoilers.  I am also vowing — for the last time — to stop harping on this, but: the concept of a “sepsis treatment” remains absurd. Hospitals prevent sepsis through vigilant infection control; once sepsis sets in, it causes multiple organ failures. Treatment involves supporting each failing organ individually. The notion that a single medication could magically reverse organ failure is medically laughable. However, I like the contrast of Kim going through cancer, which is incurable in their universe.  Kayla's comment on the health of both of her siblings was both heartbreaking and an interesting twist.  MBE is also totally underrated.  She is carrying the weight of so many stories.   And, I like the use of Kayla as an audience surrogate.  She's arguably the most "real" person in Salem. Kayla isn't psychic, she wasn't SORASed, she's not a billionaire, and she doesn't have a bionic eye.  So, I enjoy that we get her perspective of the nuttiness that surrounds her.
    • But why worry about something that might not happen? Right now, most things revolve around the Duprees. We have no idea if or how long that will continue. For now, it's working.
    • The Duprees not having any staff is a bugbear for me. They've included the background staff at the Country Club but no one at the Dupree home. Even just an extra bringing in a tray of food/drinks or responding to a request from Anita would suffice.
    • Shut up, Dante and Lois.  I actually don't mind this particular soap trope, but in the context of this storyline, it just feels forced and unnecessary. If anything, this Dante/Gio tension needed to begin months ago. Plus, this storyline, in general, isn't doing Lois any favors either.  Emma comforting Gio was really sweet though. It's definitely time for the two of them to have their first kiss. And, Joss playing Secret Agent Barbie will just never work.
    • Note to makeup - Smitty’s eyebrows, bad clamshell look.

    • Okay I can buy that when Brook Lynn was a teen.  Now she knows the child is a boy one would think she'd be slightly suspicious.  Then again, Gio looks nothing like either of them so maybe not lol.
    • I've been behind & just got caught up & the last 3 days were amazing!
    • Yeah.  The hot, poor bad boy with a chip on his shoulder but with a heart of gold was a common soap trope in the 80s

    • That's been an issue with me... the lack of a cohesive 'Have Not' crowd that has focus other than Leslie/Eva.   I would beef up Jan, Mona, Laura, Joey, and few other male characters.. and not just be out to overthrow the Duprees.. but co-existing and broadening the scope of the show since the show is called Beyond the Gates. I think the set up the show has with everything revolving around the Duprees will become predictable especially if they always win.   It would be like Victor Newman on Y & R for 40+ years.. always winning, hardly ever losing.   With MVJ/Guza.. both trained under that mindset... I fear that will happen.   I've always heard from a performer that is playing a character like Leslie/Dana that you have to find the victim/hurt beneath the surface in order to play a villain/villainess... and I think that's why I enjoy watching her.. because she brings so much more to the part than what the writers put on the page.
    • I figure that was really hard for Dom to do. I completely GET why they wrote it the way they did but I wonder if it was necessary. Meanwhile I have 2 really icky ideas in my head. Drew is going to blame Tracy KNOWING it was not her. Dante is going to blame Lulu.  After that, everyone else is going to be mad at Lois.  Tracy is going to double down on wanting to get rid of Sonny. Sonny's going to be more dug in to stay because he now has a new descendant.
