Guiding Light Discussion Thread

I see Lacy as a prototype for Bridget..essentially giving Ed and Mo a teen daughter without having to age up Chelle. The idea was good the execution on the writing and character were lacking. MH and Bridget were a step up in "trouble making teen that Ed and Mo have to foster."
Speaking of that era...(I put everything in between Long's two tenures in its own era despite the parade of writers...) I watched some clips of Simon and Jessie and they were both charming actors in their own way, its the characters they were saddled with and the writing... how could Alex ever think that bland Simon with the Canadian accent could be the spawn of Satan (Brandon.) and RS was stuck as a spineless Beth clone. The Kurt actor is also charming and I have to agree with my younger self, cute as hell, but again, stuck in a dead end character with no connections to anyone on the canvas.
My biggest surprise was an Ed and Mo scene with PS and EP which must have been right after he returned. They are on the Boardinghouse porch swing, talking about how they first fell in love there and Bea and Simon is flirty and "nice" and has great chemistry with Parker and they make a nice "normal" tentpole couple. I can see why they would cast him as Ed. Why during the Long and then JFP tenure did they turn Ed into a sour [!@#$%^&*]?

One Life to Live Tribute Thread

Completely ridiculous behavior, but it was of course acceptable from the men. Would the same actions be laughed off or accepted if the female actors did the same thing? I don't want to sound like I'm attacking Clint Ritchie, but I do think he bears responsibility for not getting help for his drinking. I also think it's sad that only Gottlieb demanded he get help and that no one else made that a condition of his employment. They let him down. I find the whole thing sad.

It's a reminder of how complicated the dynamics at a show can be when Erika seemed very fond of a producer who enabled Clint Ritchie accidentally hitting her with a chair but had little use for a producer who helped make her workplace easier.
I can see why Erika never wanted to be paired with him again, if that was her decision. I just wish she'd had better love interests. She didn't get a decent one again until Charlie, and you see how the show treated that relationship.

Leslie and Marcel are a good looking match made in hell. Im loving this distraction from Teddy Weddy at least for a bit.

I figured we weren't going to see Dr Rollins until next week. Im no soap rookie.

Kat lets Eva get in her head too damn much. Eva does something, Kat reacts, her family doesn't respond the way she wants and now we got her contemplating moving in with the walking dead. Ugh

BTG: December 2025 Discussion Thread

It's soooooo tiring and lame. I can't believe they went with it this long.
-- I am engaged by BTG, but I don't see how it's warm and welcoming.
-- I agree that November was a bit of a stall, and that isn't good in the first year of a soap. But boy, do they know how to style and make up these actors. Even on slow days when I'm nitpicking everything, I am still wowed by the fashion choices for both the women and the men.
-- The writers need to do better, though, with throwaway dialogue. Today, Eva dropped a line that she really didn't care what she wore to WinterFest. Huh? This is a girl who cares about everything she wears, and we can see party choices all over her couch. Then Leslie shows up and Eva is wowed by what she brought her -- just by pulling down the garment bag zipper. She didn't even look at the thing.
-- Pacing continues to be a problem. Ted is just now getting after Tomas for sleeping with Kat and Eva? This should have already happened. Instead, we're all saying "Where's the father in all this? Ted is absent and doesn't care." We get one "gotcha" after another like this -- the show reminding us they haven't forgotten anything. As I've said before, they play this card too frequently.

I think what happened with Ritchie was a drunken accident, but it was still unacceptable. And then there's James DePaiva, who threw a chair in Gottlieb's office during a tantrum. There was a lot of that going around at ABC back then (Tony Geary too).

Maxie at least seemed to put in work. Everyone else? No. If BLQ wines about Deception one more time....Idk, Brook, maybe don't work there if it's such a hassle for you to take 5 minutes out of your day to read emails or whatever you do lol.

Sharon and Tracy's reaction to the news about Dana being Barbara's daughter is hilarious and very on point.

Nicole put that mirror right up in front of her spoilt, self-centred bitch of a spawn. Good on her.
I like hearing more about Eva's backstory, and I appreciate Ted truly getting to know his daughter and her history prior to his knowing she existed.

Notes:
I never expected Dunn and Paige to work together, but they are a dream team! Hope to get more from them as we head into 2026.
I appreciate Pomarico's direction and that we are seeing some alt. views of established sets we have yet to see. It is very exciting.
The fashion and makeup on the ladies of this soap today is top-shelf! Everyone is looking flawless, especially in preparation for WinterFest. A true show-up-and-show-out gala. And a Forrester Creation? I love that callback.

Vee, I didn't see you had summarized before I screencapped again. I tried to edit but it wouldn't let me.
My feeling is that Ritchie got away with a lot of bad behavior ("could get mean"/chair) that should not have been tolerated. I applaud Gottlieb taking a stand and making him attend AA, but her way of getting back/warning him through the storytelling is another matter.
