This time, let's not allow ourselves to be distracted by cultural debates. Let's remember that an assassin was able to make a ghost gun, on his 3d printer, at home, because the GOP refused to regulate the practice. Regardless of motive, that feels totally preventable.

That's just plum crazy. What kind of idiots want ghost guns out there? I imagine this particular shooter could have come up with a gun another way, but why make it easier for people who are actually smart to make a gun without a serial number? I wonder why he didn't dump the gun? This is going to be an interesting case when the facts come out.

much as i loathe the health care industrial complex, i’m with vanessa friedman regarding the sexual objectification of the shooter:

“But in all the hoo-ha over hotness — and, potentially, the way such stories often get rewritten and recreated by history — what gets lost is the violence, as well as the victims.”

At this point Nancy Mace is basically a soap opera psycho

https://newrepublic.com/post/189258/nancy-mace-attack-transgender-activist-truth

She lied and said an advocate for transgender people attacked her, but all he did is shake her hand. At this point she's probably going to throw herself down the stairs next and blame a Democrat (like Annie did to Reva on Guiding Light).

She's always been like this. She claimed that Antifa defaced her home.

As always, many transphobes are rushing in to deify her, so she will just get worse and worse.

She's trying to out-crazy Marjorie. (Love the GL reference, BTW, lol)

I've noticed this thread has been much quieter lately. I guess we really have taken a step back from the daily crazy that is our current political climate, for the sake of our own sanity.

I haven't checked out from politics entirely, but I don't feel the need to follow and/or react to every move that the incoming administration makes either.  I just don't see the point.

Most likely she did that herself. No police report and the writing was clearly her own.

I think she actually might be actually have some mental health problems. Marjorie is crazy but in an intentional, extremist way but Mace seems to be spiraling.

She's clearly mentally ill and quite dangerous. She repeatedly claims to be the victim of crimes in order to get attention. She is a conscienceless sociopath who's just looking for her own personal Emmett Till to frame. Even her own former staffers - of which there are many -  say she's an utter psycho.

The irony is that if she's ever really the victim of a crime nobody will believe her.

Same. The press wanted this monster back in office for clicks. By checking out I protect my peace *and* deny them engagement. I've checked out of national politics for the most part. Every success of the Biden administration just reminds me what's been taken from us and it enrages me meanwhile I refuse to give the Trump reality show any time or attention because we know what to expect.

As for the Democratic Party, I'm out. I'm sitting on the sidelines and waiting for Jaime Harrison's tell-all book. I'm trying to get more involved with local politics but my city council is an absolute clown show right now and I don't have the energy for it.

It's the same where I live, and it has been for much of my life, too.  As I've said in the past, the rest of the country is about to learn what it's like to live in Oklahoma, lol.

Rep. Jennifer Wexton, who had to retire from Congress due to being diagnosed with PSP, gave her farewell speech today.

Yikes. This is about to spark an all-out war amongst the GOP. Gaetz is going to wage a war. Oh well. May they implode.

Happy New Year, everybody. I hope everyone had a peaceful, healthy holiday. Looks like Congress is kicking the year off with plenty of dysfunction and yet, I can't bring myself to care.
