Members David_Vickers
I predict the 5 stars are Joe Mascolo(Stefano), Stephen Nichols(Steve), Mary Beth Evans(Kayla), Lauren Koslow(Kate) and Shawn Christian(Daniel), or Bryan Dattilo(Lucas). If Blake Berris(Nick) isn't included, then Christian, Dattilo would be safe imho.
Members Vee
(I WOULD) CUT: Daniel - Obvious. Kate - Enough. She can barely act anymore and I am expected to believe she has cancer? Her nose is disappearing. Lucas - I used to love him AND Lumi but at this point, he could not be more of a eunuch if they tried. They've ruined him these last two years. Both Lucas and Kate would drop to recurring and leave town. Nicole - I don't care. I hate the skank. Galen Gering - Who on Earth would hire this man? ALSO RECURRING: Tony, Anna, anybody over 60 other than Maggie (who needs her health insurance) I would give Melanie a shot for the sake of preventing incest. She's a good actress but I'd rather see Abby back too. Nick and Phillip are priorities, both characters are unique and full of life. Nick would have to be lightened up a lot, brought back to the adorable genius aspect of the character they mauled almost immediately. He would be re-paired with Chelsea. Eric Martsolf is too talented to simply drop, same with SN and MBE, and Stephanie would be recast (I despise Shelley Hennig). Chloe I would potentially re-try with Phillip, since they are now both "gray", interesting characters. Stefano, try to refocus him or write him out in a blaze of glory. If his mad scientist is on contract, dump his ass too, are you kidding me? Abe and Lexie is a hard issue; I am bored to tears with Renee Jones, but I think Jim Reynolds is one of the finest AA actors in daytime and I want more AA characters on DAYS. So Theo would also be SORASed to adolescence. Perhaps the Carvers would go recurring, perhaps not. Who I would bring on is an entirely different issue, mind you. Members MikeGoldy
These decisions are based on your personal preferences though. What would you do for the good of the show, based on the budget and also what would at the same time sustain the most viewers?
Members Vee
I explicitly said they were my personal preferences, nothing else. I couldn't do any worse than Corday, though. And I happen to think the show's future cannot afford to lose dynamic young leads like JKJ and Berris. You don't want this show to end up like GL, and right now that's how it's going to look. Members DaytimeFan
There's no logic in those cuts...not one of those performers is a big money maker. This is all about money. The firing of Hall and Hogestyn tells me that Corday is cutting the biggest pieces of fat off the carcass first. Evans and Nichols should be fired outright because they're useless, Mascolo should go, Penglis and Hunley then take your pick... Won't surprise me if Reckell and Alfonso will go to recurring or contract without a guarantee. Ditto Sweeney and the whole cast really.
Members Vee
Nichols and Evans aren't useless, they've only been used that way. And while I am loath to think of WTF Stefano can do at this point, I think if you cut him on top of Jarlena the audience will be all but gone. Members DaytimeFan
Nichols and Evans have been back for years now, they're 'over' they never caught on...sure the writing was lousy...but they had been off the show for more than a decade, their era has passed. If either of them stays when Deidre Hall gets the shaft that will be pretty pathetic. Mascolo has to go, it's tough but what the hell is he going to do? It'd be a total waste of money to keep him around. Whoever Corday cuts, DAYS is pretty f--ked.
Members KevC1980
Here are my picks... 1. Josh Taylor- He hasn't been used for years..The fact that he's been Corday's friend has saved his butt before..But Corday just had to fire Deidre Hall..If he can fire her, he can fire a friend...Roman is really a character that would work better as a recurring character anyways..Use him for holidays, weddings, and big events in Sami's life..Bo and Hope can take care of the police business.. 2. Thaao Penglis- I really enjoy Tony, but they've basically paid him all year to do nothing (minus a few great weeks of material during the lockdown storyline..Its time to send Tony and Anna packing around the world...He's a vet so he probably makes pretty good money, and the backlash wouldn't be that huge.. 3. Leann Hunley- not contract, so she's not hurting the salary..But she should be written out with Tony. 4. Bryan Datillo- He's been a great asset to the show for years, but he's really not needed anymore..Especially with James Scott, Eric Martsolf, and Galen Garing now on the show...Killing Lucas off when Alison Sweeney gets back from maternity leave would be a great idea and it could lead to Will's return..As i do think Will could be a potential love interest for Melanie.. 5. Darin Brooks- Out of the younger group he's the least talented...And i really want Jay and Blake to stay over him..Sadly that probably won't happen...Ideally, i want Phillip and Stephanie..And a Nick, Melanie, and Chelsea storyline... 6. Shawn Christian- I'm sure he's not expensive, but his character has been a dud since the beginning..Plus we've had enough medical stories this year that i would be fine not having any for a long time.. 7. Stephen Nichols- With John and Marlena leaving, i hope we don't have to lose Patch and Kayla right now as well...I would actually like them to split the year..Have Drake and Deidre offscreen and contract the first half..Then bring them back in the summer and take Stephen and Mary Beth off contract during the last half....but they aren't using Steve and Kayla and have paid them not to work this whole last half of the year..What a waste of money....Either use them or can them.. 8. Mary Beth Evans- same as above... 9. Nadia B.- I'm torn over this one..On one aspect i like Chloe and they could use her with Brady even after writing Lucas out..But a Sami, Nicole, Ej, and Brady storyline would be sufficient enough..I wouldn't mind Nadia leaving if we could then keep Kate.. Who does that leave? Bo, Hope Abe, Lexie Sami, Rafe, Nicole, EJ, and Brady Nick, Melanie, Chelsea, Phillip (hopefully Jay stays), and Stephanie Kate, Stefano (have these two interact) Victor, Caroline, Maggie, Mickey, Doug and Julie
Members Vee
I think they're much more talented than Hall, though I don't agree with the decision to cut her. True.
Members jimmyk311
It's just like what a poster said on an another soap blog that the fans just have to be "realistic" about this whole thing because all these vets in daytime should be lucky that the execs are allowing them to stay or still be on a soap for so long now and being able to still get paid the money they're getting (despite pay cuts.) But now, things are changing so much so in daytime that if we, as fans, of this genre want to see it survive, then I prefer having any high cost vets replaced by a newer or cheaper actor. I like said many times before, the online soap fans and the industry itself live too much off the golden age of soaps in the 1980's through the 1990's that the industry quit evolving. Now, the beginning of the end of daytime genre is slowly happening. Will there be soaps on the air in a couple of years from now? Maybe in someway, but not the way they're doing them now... Members SteveFrame
Wow I don't agree with that statement that they should be lucky or be grateful for whatever they get. hell these execs wouldn't even have shows or jobs if it weren't for these veterans who have given their best to these shows. People definitely didn't tune in to Days because of Ken Corday - they tuned into it because of Deidre, Drake, Peter, Kristian and the like. It is the execs who should be the ones lucky that they were willing to stay and willing to be there. I have been a supporter of Ken Corday many times when others haven't been, but even I see that if anyone should be taking a cut it should be him, Gary Tomlin, Higley, and others and not just the stars. Hell Ken Corday could save some damn money and either fire himself or fire Tomlin. Does a show really need 2 Executive Producers? Hell cut the writing staff down some. Shows have survived with a lot less writers in the past they can now. Make the cuts fairer than they are. And in no way do I agree with the statement they should be lucky. And yes I see to a degree your point about living in the past but take a look at GL. Without those key vets there the show has a big gaping hole in it. Part of the continuity of what is soap opera is gone. There is no family feel. There is no generational feel. The show's characters are way too fragmented. You just have bits and pieces of families left. Core friendships are gone. The things that made the show special just are not there. You have got to have the past meeting the present for a soap to survive. Days has alread tried to center the show on Sami/her men and Steve/Kayla. It didn't work. The show lost a big portion of it's core family relationships. Sami without her moral centers (Caroline and Marlena) just didn't work. And if they try to cut them out again, the show is going to be fragmented just like GL and will slowly lose more and more of it's audience. Members quartermainefan
Sami is great but she can never be the lead or the center of the show. She needs to be the one making leads miserable.
Members Andrew
Well as Alison Sweeney gets older, i dont see why she coudn`t be the center of the show, she has the acting material for it. Good i hope not, Melissa was so so so boring, and Jennifer was the most boring of them all. Stephanie Camerson should play Jennifer if Jennifer is needed. Matthew Ashford is great though. Members Andrew
I hope they remember that everyone cant be in their twenties or in their thirties, it would become boring if all the actors and actresses where in that age, woudnt it?!. Members Evan
I'd like to finish off the Dimeras permanently, that'd mean writing out Stefano, Tony and Anna. I'd also cut Roman, Max, Melanie.
