That's wonderful that so many are watching via DVR but sad that it doesn't really help the shows right now as advertisers don't give or pay more money for those viewers.

We have had the DVR in my house for 2 weeks now and I haven't seen one commercial since then. The only ones I stop on are the ABC I've Got My Promos because I really like them.

I hate commercials and one of the best things that ever happened to me was the DVR because I don't have to watch them anymore. At the same time I understand that is why advertisers don't pay attention to the DVR totals.

It is weird that about 10 to 15 years ago we became known as the Fast Food Generation or some called it the Drive Thru Generation. I guess we are now becoming the On Demand Generation. We can have our TV shows or whatever almost whenever we want it.

Makes you wonder what this will all lead too as the Fast Food Generation of things has been heavily linked to the increase in obesity and weight problems in our society.

The ratings for November 3-21 should be the most interesting. This is where I'm expecting so many things to go up. The October 27-31 is usually a slow week, but based on the household numbers it looks like things have stabilized with CBS only affecting things negatively.

HUT levels go up big time in November for sweeps and kids are off from school on various days inside of that period like Veteran's Day.

Y&R had a major car crash in today's episode so November 10 should be the highest of the sweeps period for Y&R.

Every soap looks to have some major event or stunt going on so ratings will go up for every soap.

Her nasty comment about the OLTL viewers just watching the show because it comes on between AMC and GH is bulls+it. I liked Sarah up until that comment. She is acting like Nelson now. When he loves the show he goes beyond ass kissing, when he hates the show he is downright nasty.

Her DVR numbers saying that OLTL viewers may just be AMC/GH watchers makes absolutley NO sense to me.

To me it says that OLTL does not have alot of DVR viewers... I always hated that nastiness about OLTL in the 80's "Its the show sandwiched between the two others"

She is yet another viewer deeply offended (rightly or wrongly so) by the Todd/Marty storyline that she is going to trash the show any way she can.

The show sucks. But AMC sucked in the last year MUCH worse from what I have heard here... Maybe that is why OLTL has had higher ratings....

I don't think ANY of the ABC shows arer outstanding right now. Each one of them is a mixed bag.

Quoting part of your post

No you don't alienate fans, but what the heck do you think Pratt is doing? Name me 1 fanbase besides Adam/Erica fans that aren't getting crapped on? Bianca fans are PISSED about the stupidity of her return storyline/character assassination, Zendall fans are pissed at Zach's character assassination, Aidan/Greenlee fans are pissed at the character assassination of Aidan for Rylee, Jesse & Angie fans are pissed that Pratt has Jesse acting like an ass and Angie a stepford wife, and so on and so forth

They aren't going to learn to trust again when the show gives them NO reason to trust them, when they continually keep doing stuff to piss off alot of the fans

I guess all the CBS viewers went trick/treating all week. :P Seriously, these numbers make zero sense. All of CBS jumps big last week and now drops big this week? Umm...right....LOL. Horrible numbers by all soaps.

RTR, you are one of my fave posters but I have to disagree with your assessment of Sarah and her opinion.

Whatever her issues, likes or dislikes, that particular entry deals in numbers and you can't argue with the data. When you factor in 7-day DVRing OLTL is at the bottom, save for GL. When that show goes off the air, OLTL will be the bottom soap. You may hate the idea that OLTL is just the lettuce in the sandwich but the numbers bear that out.

Most of the people still watching OLTL are fixated on the past. Lucky for them so is Ron.

*sigh* It looks like I'm pissing off all my fave posters tonight...

That may be true Toups but I think you're in the minority. Ron is all about "history" or at least the history that he wishes he could've been a part of. What I keep hearing about OLTL is that Ron loves "history" and OLTL is "classic" soap. To me that's just a nice way of calling OLTL a "retro soap."

I guess it's just people's perspective. If Ron didn't know OLTL's history, he would be called out on that - like Dena was. If he brings up history (or too much history), he's called out on living in the past. The question for me is do I want a writer who knows OLTL's history or not? The answer is easy. Yes I want the writer who knows the history.

If I'm in the minority, that's fine. I can't do anything about it. All I can do is enjoy OLTL which I am immensely.

I dunno, I'd say the show overall is stronger, the characters being used are stronger... it's no longer all about the same six characters, and those have indeed been 'shaken up' (and that's been needed). I think most fans except those from a few fanbases are actually pleased with the show, and even those in the few fanbases in questions (Zendall, Bianca) have folks who are enjoying the show.

A show that is stronger overall is going to help in the long run better than one that pleases only certain fanbases. Not that I think those fanbases deserve lousy stories... but I don't think the stories in question are necessarily bad, and I also think that if the show is strong overall.. it will last... and the next story might be strong for a particular grouping. Stories hit and miss on soaps ... every 'fanbase' knows that, we've all been hit by stories we don't like. If the show overall is stronger, better stories will come (and then weak ones, and then better ones).

The thing is, there is always something to watch on AMC now, because there are more stories, more variety, and far more cast being featured.

I like Adam/ERica but I'm not in their fanbase. And I'm pretty happy with the story overall (despite hating Bianca and Reese... I can just ff them if i want, but I must admit i'm somewhat intrigued by a more selfish bianca).

    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.

    • Well now we had Ashley's reaction-and weren't we all gasping when she appeared to hate it-but she was just joking!! She loved it. Now we have to see Abby's reaction, and maybe Mamie could come back to say she loves it. How about Jill via Zoom giving her opinion (she'll love it) and bring in a day player to play Mrs Martinez to say she loves it also... I feel bad to keep dumping on this show (not really) but when the choices they make are so inane, it's the only entertainment value the show has. Let's unpack the Nikki birthday story. So Claire wants to throw her Nana a birthday bash as away of endearing Kyle to Victor. Don't quite get the logic there, but OK. She hires a party planner who makes ridiculous suggestions. Slightly annoyed that Y&R are hiring someone for this role for 5 episodes when we never see doctors, co- workers etc. But OK to that to. With all the talk we are expecting something special. What we get is the Jazz Lounge hideously decorated with some ugly tablecloths and a few tacky decorations. They needed a planner for this? Then the guest list consists of family members (no grandchildren)and a few others. Hardly a party. As usual the costuming is pretty awful. A red and black theme ? And our guest of honor is sporting a do that looks like a cross between Cameron Diaz in Something about Mary and Marie from Roxette. They should have had an intimate dinner and ditched all the fanfare. Would have been way more believable.
