Britney Spears Thread

I don't know if she's over and done with per se, she's still young enough to get over a flop album and singles and stage a comeback.

However, I just don't think she nor her management cares anymore. Britney's been half-assing everything in her career since about 2005. Probably why her peers like Beyonce and Justin have kept some momentum in their 10+ years solo careers going, even when they go for long stretches without releasing an album, and Britney has not.

Britney's popularity with the general public and with top 40 radio has faded though, and there's no stepping past that. That's usually the lifeline for any commercial pop act these days.

Oh please. Britney's last album and tour did very well and a lot of the singles were hits. This album is a flop, but it happens. The big WTF here is that there were so many obvious promotional spots and she didn't do one televised performance for either single. How did she expect to sell this? She didn't even try to pursue radio either. Had she promoted Work Bitch, it would've been a hit. I don't think it's great, but it's the same mindless fun all over the place.

This and Blackout are definitely her least promoted albums. So I'm not surprised its a big bomb. Still sad to see tho cuz she'll always have a spot in my heart.

Those comments tho on the other site are so mean but they are killing me by making me laugh so damn hard. People on the interwebs are just going so hard on this poor lass from Louisiana. You'd think Britney killed their mama and slept with their dad or something...

That was what, almost 3 years ago? It's a totally different climate now, she just hasn't kept up a consistent enough profile for the general audience or radio to care.

You can do constant promotion and be on every talk show, but it doesn't mean that's going to sell your album. Lady Gaga is finding that out the hard way. There needs to be some type of positive buzz and momentum to sell your product, and obviously the singles/album have to be at least half-way decent. Neither she nor Britney really has any of this at the moment. Granted, Gaga isn't flopping as badly as Britney is, but still under-performing and making her label lose money on the album nonetheless.

How can you say that when her album flopped big time? Clearly either her fanbase is gone or they've moved on to different things because they sure as heck didn't buy this album or express any on the ground interest in it.

The numbers speak for themselves...between the very poor album sales and the random E documentary (which I only ran across because a cousin was flipping thru channels in boredom and stumbled upon it that night) its clear that she's at best on shaky ground. She got no where near the level of press that Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, or even Lady Gaga got in the run up to this article....lets not even mention Beyonce who overnight became the focus of the the music media market for a solid two weeks with her secret album.

I really like Britney Spears and love a lot of her music but this latest outing could be a death knell....but I say that fully admitting that its been said before and she managed to come back with Circus so who knows what the future holds for her....

I guess some people will pay good money to watch alot of flash and no substance. She seems to want to follow in Madge's footsteps, but doesn't have the talent to back it up. She certainly doesn't have the talent to sing live... but I know people today don't care about little things like that. As long as they look like a fashion model, and or porn star, that's all that matters. I wonder what Britney will do when she's over the hill? And people wonder why the record business is dying. I'm gonna state the obvious here, but some of you guys actually LIKE records that sound like they are being sung by a cartoon character?

I know... sad, ain't it? that nobody cares. Actually people do care... but theyr'e all over 35. Actually it's because I hope that the young generation can be convinced to demand something BETTER from their performers. If this kind of crap is passed off time after time, then music and pop culture will just continue into this downward spiral. Britney Spears and her no talent ass should not be in the position she is in the entertainment business, someone with true talent like Leann Rimes should be holding her position, or hell, even Aguilera (I may HATE her singing style, but she does have talent a real voice). If you want to scarf down a Bologna sandwich and act like it's lobster thermidor, then I suppose that's up to you. I suppose you can say the same thing about all the soap opera threads where people bitch and bitch and bitch, and nothing ever changes or gets any better. Shouldn't you all just give up in those threads? Let's see if I get this straight, it's fine to slag on all the soaps, but not on the modern pop culture divas? Just wanting clarification.

I don't bitch in soap threads because I don't have time to watch shows I don't enjoy watching. What I'm saying is that you constantly get yourself worked up over this, and it's a colossal waste of your own time. If you want to continue, that's fine, it's just annoying sometimes because you just don't seem to get it.

    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him in the mags once FV clearly took a shine to him. Frank's priorities are bright and blazing in one color. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field or explore quads with both with very different people - Emma with a scheming young man (of color), Gio with possibly Trina or someone else, or even a boy. Then maybe put them back together, who knows. But of course none that will happen.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
