September 20, 200817 yr Author Member The Y&R sets are wonderful. Absolutely fantastic. I'm glad he won't be messing with any of that. I disagree, all of them a very dated IMO and could use some new paint jobs and furniture. Specifically the Newman Ranch and Abbott Mansion.
September 20, 200817 yr Member Well, designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard is set to return to Y&R in one more guest appearance, so maybe the Abbott mansion will be changed a bit.
September 20, 200817 yr Member I disagree, all of them a very dated IMO and could use some new paint jobs and furniture. Specifically the Newman Ranch and Abbott Mansion. New paint jobs and furniture, yes. Especially the Abbott decorations are horrid. BUT, not the set themselves, that is to say their design.
September 20, 200817 yr Member SUCH a contrarian... Or in my view — he should downright fire them all. And destroy every single set on that show. Awful, awful sets which bizarrely have some kind of reputation as being glamourous or whatever... Sylph do you have an HDTV? Do you even have a color TV? Because I am here to tell you, on my HDTV, Y&R is stunning. And that is not a biased comment. I have had non-fans walk into the room and see--say--the Restless Style set or EVEN Kay's set (when it is all lit, and the dining room door is open) and say "that is beautiful", "that set has depth", "look at those colors" "look at that texture". Perhaps if you own some small old 13" black and white, you are not seeing the OBJECTIVE beauty of those Y&R sets. The good news is that your old 13" B&W analog TV will be obsolete, and then I hope you will be able to have a device that shows the show off better. The online streaming--I'm not sure if it does those marvellous sets justice. No, that had very little if anything to do with it. I just remember what Harding Lemay said about him and that is why I supported this move from the start and I said it was going to happen, no one believed. Even though I knew about all of his shortcomings and flaws. But, what has me worried, is that he has to have a very good writer beside him. Ugh! The shows since early August have been consistently good...certainly the best on daytime (and I realize you do not like relativism).
September 20, 200817 yr Member The set outlines for the older sets should stay in place, but the could use a fresh coat of paint and some new adornments. Rauch will probably do that. Some might like it, and others might hate it, but he is in charage of "production."
September 20, 200817 yr Member I disagree, all of them a very dated IMO and could use some new paint jobs and furniture. Specifically the Newman Ranch and Abbott Mansion. Oh, Kay's set had scuff marks on the walls near the dining room. But the furniture is supposed to be "classic". And I must confess, some of the oldest sets have aged MARVELLOUSLY. They don't look dated (to me), but "stable". Well, designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard is set to return to Y&R in one more guest appearance, so maybe the Abbott mansion will be changed a bit. Last we saw him, Ashley visited. And she said she liked the place the way it was. Thus, I am expecting an Ashley/Sharon tussle, as Ash implores Jack not to let Sharon make changes .
September 20, 200817 yr Member Yes, but isn't that true with any story EP? I really can't think of a case in the past 15 years where both an EP and HW were equally story. True. I disagree, all of them a very dated IMO and could use some new paint jobs and furniture. Specifically the Newman Ranch and Abbott Mansion. Like I said... New paint jobs and furniture, yes. Especially the Abbott decorations are horrid. BUT, not the set themselves, that is to say their design. OK, I can compromise: the sets can stay, but the decorations have to go. Sylph do you have an HDTV? Do you even have a color TV? I have several huge plasmas/LCDs! Where do you think I live — in a cave?! Edited September 20, 200817 yr by Sylph

September 20, 200817 yr Member OK, I can compromise: the sets can stay, but the decorations have to go. Okay, I can agree with this. New decorations (and, IMO, fewer decorations) can always freshen things up. I have several huge plasmas/LCDs! Where do you think I live — in a cave?! Just teasing :-). I just wondered how you couldn't see the beauty of the Y&R set. With TVs like that, maybe you need your vision tested if you cannot see the magnificence..

With TVs like that, maybe you need your vision tested if you cannot see the magnificence.. Or... And it's weird you, The Diplomat, haven't suggested this... Our tastes just differ. And that's all. September 20, 200817 yr Member Again, does anyone notice the recent changes to the Chancellor mansion set that I've noticed recently? It appears to be more spacious, less cluttered, and more brightly lit.
September 20, 200817 yr Member I don't know if this has been discussed, but does anybody think Maria Arena Bell might institute more concrete changes to the Y&R writing style. It could be argued that the pace of the episodes had been set by Josh Griffith. With MAB now in charge of the writing completely, she can do whatever she wants with the stories. Personally, I've never had a problem with what she has done storywise, but I know there were lynch mobs at the ready at one point. With all the attention (understandably) being on Paul Rauch, it appears to be something that hasn't been discussed much.
