DAYS: Ed Scott FIRED! Gary Tomlin HIRED!

No she didn't. Her HUSBAND did, and he was "writing" for DOOL during the strike. There was some article during the stirke, however, that quoted an unnamed DOOL actor praising the new female head writer. And none of the fi-core DOOL strike writers were female. Also Dena was named head writer, what? Less than a week after the strike?

It was revealed AFTER the stike that Dena did indeed go Fi-Core...

HUGE MISTAKE. I know Tomlin won the emmy for OLTL in 2002 but I hated his loopy off-the-wall producing style. Not what DAYS needs at all.

Couldn't one argue that "loopy off the wall" has become a Days trademark? If yes...I'm all about shows being what they are...what someone else here yesterday called "distinct identities". It seems to be all about the fit of the creative team with the legacy product they are stewarding.

After decades with the Bell machine, one is not so surprised that Ed Scott didn't last in that schizophrenogenic environment. That said, I have concerns that Ed himself might not be the easiest to work with.

I agree. B)

And then later, hopefully, out of nowhere.... David Shaughnessy is hired.

As much as I want it, I don't think it will happen.

I hope I'm wrong.

Don't know about Dena, but people on other board are trying to assure us that the upcoming news will be Y&R-related.

What the heck is so special in Whitesell that Tomlin wants him there? I didn't hear much good stuff about Whitesell.

I think it all ties back into the scandal Nelson was reporting about both DAYS and Y&R and how they're linked in this way. Nelson says he has another firing to report later today, we'll have to wait and see what that is.

The tension is killing me! ;)

Yes, Sylph, I am aware of the fact that it probably won't happen. They don't seem to even consider him for that spot.

I do not believe we will hear anything for a while...I have no faith.

I know what I want to happen, but my thoughts are nostalgic. They are about restoring a Y&R creative team that existed in early 2005, more or less. Which is stupid, because that team had some problems...and because it will never happen. But as I watch Y&R fail to EVEN maintain the momentum of the "Impact" (total downhill after 08/06/08...especially with the STUPIDEST TRIANGLE/PREGNANCY EVER WRITTEN IN THE HISTORY OF THAT SHOW NOW FRONT-BURNER)...I keep thinking a team with some skills is needed.

And then, I watch B&B and I hear about DOOL, where most of the people I'm fantasizing about have perched, and I see what messes both are...and I think my nostalgia is ill-placed.

So then I feel it is all hopeless, and I go searching for the emergency Prozac dose :).

#1. GT did not write May sweeps at OLTL this year. At least, not most of it IIRC.

#2. GT's pet writer, Chris Whitesell, is terrible. Possibly not as terrible as Dena, but still quite terrible.

You're correct Vee. Ron Carlivati's work began airing May 2nd.

After all these terrible behind-the-scenes "goings on", can DOOL recover its credibility? I don't think so. At least, it would need a whole lot of time to do it. Then again, time is a luxury it does not have.

I don't think that's a concern, DAYS has had very little credibility, if any, within the industry FOR YEARS now.

And with the fans? That was what I was thinking about primarily.

DAYS fans have been abused and treated like crap by TPTB for years now, I think many have become numb to the behind the scenes trouble that has been plaguing this show for years.

Watch the viewer numbers. Credibility with fans is also lacking. The loss of companion soaps, promotion, and the much-announced claim that DOOL might soon be cancelled...all have done their damage.

That said, I don't see (from our trend analysis) evidence that Days is declining at a faster rate.

The whole industry disappears. Really, it doesn't matter what else is going on. The industry itself is evaporating.
