August 21, 200817 yr Member Yay for May and Walsh!!! Yeah and the announcer was a prick. Did you hear when he said, "and for Lolo Jones [pause] nothing." That delivery was so cold, but kinda unintentionally funny. Oh and Usain Bolt is my new track & field hero! Yeah I don't have a lot of love for the announcers. I have to mute them sometimes. lol Edited August 21, 200817 yr by Laurie
August 21, 200817 yr Member Usain Bolt needs to stop acting so cocky even the IOC is telling him he needs to cool it.
August 21, 200817 yr Member ^^^Yeah, I'm noticing the cockiness, but I think it's all just very overwhelming and new to him. It's not like he's a seasoned veteran.

Yep in our daily paper it mentioned that the US team co-ordinator Martha Karolyi that one of the chinese girls had a missing baby tooth and I am sure that we would have lost them all by the time we are about 14 and have a full set of adult teeth by 16. They wrapped the investiagations within hours I guess. They said the proof China have is fine in proving the girls ages. Though IMO the "proof" are items that are still easily forged so basically China will get away with cheating.
August 23, 200817 yr Member Germany got 16 gold medals this time which is an improvement compared to Athens (we had 13 back then), but overall most of our so-called "top athletes" failed. Instead, we won medals where nobody thought we would, for example in men's triathlon and women's modern pentathlon. The best moment was when Britta Steffen won the 100m freestyle race. Nobody expected her to win, since all other German swimmers failed this time and only four even reached a final. Britta was so happy and she cried in front of the cameras, it was very touching. It was also heartbreaking when Matthias Steiner won the gold medal in weightlifting and held a picture of his dead wife during the medal ceremony. She died in a car accident a year ago. A very tragic moment was when Tomasz Wylenzek had a circulatory collapse after the C-2 1000 metres race where he finished second. Edited August 23, 200817 yr by Huntress

ITA it is the medals that you don't expect your country to win that are the best. Steve Hooker winning the pole vault. Matthew Mitcham in the 10 metre platform ending China's hopes of a clean sweep in the diving. But my male athlete of the games would have to go to both Maarten Van Der Weijden from the Netherlands who won the 10 km marathon swim. He beat leukemia and won the gold. And Matthias Steiner who promised his gying wife that he would win gold. And my female athlete would go to Anna Meares from Australia. She had a fall in January while competing in a race in LA breaking her neck and came with in an inch of becoming a quadriplegic and there was also something saud about her losing her life. She ended up winning the silver in the women's sprint final. The one thing that I do hate about the Olympic or Commonwealth games and even the world championships is when someone from any of the teams competing don't win the gold that was expected of them. I mean I wonder what would have happened had Phelp's been beaten in one of his indvidual event's would people be calling him a failure. Or if the USA lost one of the relay's it would have been that his team mates let him down. Some people turned on Grant Hackett here in Australia after he won the silver medal. People were expecting him to win the gold. Upsets happen in all forms of sport. Just because you or a team happens to be the best in something doesn't mean that you or the team will be the best at the moment that it matters. I think that a lot of the pressure come's more from the offical's and even from TV commontator's who publicly announce that a certain person should win this or that.
August 24, 200817 yr Member WHOOT WOOOOOO GO AUSTRALIA!!! Way to upset China and their quest for all the diving golds!
August 24, 200817 yr Member I am so glad the Chinese men didnt win the gold in platform diving. Congrats to the Aussie diver for winning! He truly deserved to win. WHOOT WOOOOOO GO AUSTRALIA!!! Way to upset China and their quest for all the diving golds! Did you see how quiet it got when he got those 10's on a 3.8 difficultly dive? It was priceless!!
