Yeah, with Martha Byrne...

See I liked Martha Byrne back then, but now, I kinda like Noelle Beck. I never heard of any uproar when Beck assumed the role. Was there any?

I'll never for the life of me understand the "Agnes hates OLTL"/"Agnes abandoned OLTL" claims. Most soap creators don't stick around too long after the show gets on the air. They might serve as EP and/or HW for 5-10 years, but after that, they move on to something else or just do other work. AMC and Y&R are exceptions, which makes sense because both of them were their respective creator's first creation.

Yeah, that's how I feel as well.

The thing with OLTL, Agnes left that in the hands of Gordon Russell, I believe. She was very close with him and trusted his vision. I do think that if AMC had aired first, then OLTL, Agnes probably would have worked on them simultaneously, for many years. I also think that OLTL was made up of some parts that were the foundation of AMC. Both shows dealt with social issues in the begging (for OLTL for certain, those were AMC's identity, always).

Bell left B&B in the hands of his son, and I think B&B was made to just be "filler" for CBS Daytime. Bill's passion was Y&R.

Even though ATWT wasn't Irna's first show, that was Irna's show. It wasn't her baby either, but it held a very special place in her heart. It was everything Irna had envisioned. She wanted that traditional life, the traditional family. It was the polar opposite of everything she had and of how she was raised. That is why it was almost second nature for her to write it in the way she did. People are sometimes brilliant at executing the things in life they never had because they can do that with a much clearer vision.

The foundation of ATWT were the Hughes', the husband and wife have a good marriage (Nancy and Chris), but the children have the problems (Don, Penny, Bob, Susan). And have everything revolve around that. Then things were mixed in with the Lowell family that was just falling to pieces. It all made for some great drama.

I liked 2003's Bridget and Ridge storyline. There, I said it. I knew it was sick, and I never wanted it to go beyond the "I've got a crush" stage (which I think it didn't), but I enjoyed the way it was depicted. The characters seemed to have the same disgusted reaction to it as the viewers had, so I never felt that it was being written as a true romance. It felt, IMO, like a confused state of mind, and I enjoyed it for that.

-Laura Wright and KKL are both absolutely terrible actresses who have played the most one-dimensional characters on soaps (and their characters are that way largely because their performances are so awful and hollow)

-Sarah Brown fooled me. I thought she was great once but after seeing her run on ATWT and now GH again, I have realized she's an average actress at best

-Rick Hearst is easily the most overrated actor in all of daytime (Tom Pelphrey might be able to give him a run for his money though)

-I hate Nikki and Victor together

-The cast of B&B looks so fake and plastic that it's hard to watch the show

-I think Michelle Stafford sometimes can be as bad as Steve Burton in the lazy actor department. She has a tendency to check out of scenes and stories.

-Windsor Harmon is underrated and deserves more airtime

-The whole cast of GH is pretty awful except for Jane Elliot, Nancy Lee Grahn, John Ingle, Tony Geary, Rick Hearst (who is good, but not *that* good), Stuart Damon, and Ron Hale

-The last 5 years, the acting on the CBS soaps has been so superior to that of the ABC soaps that its almost become embarassing

-Kimberly McCullough was a great child actress, she's not a great adult actress

-I hate Todd no matter who is playing him and I think both TSJ and RH are overrated. I hate Blair and I think KDP is damn near awful.

-The best actress on OLTL is and alway has been Robin Strasser

-Lauren Koslow to me is the epitome of a fabulous daytime dame

-Martha Byrne was annoying and overrated but Noelle Beck sucks

-I have never ever gotten the appeal of Grayson McCouch

I completely agree with this one.

I'll still watch old GH episodes, and I'm impressed by her. Whatever happened in the last ten years, she has definitely slipped far off the pedestal I put her on.

I was afraid of even saying it in this thread but I loved Cricket too.

She played the sweetheart do-gooder role to the T.

Yes, she was good at it, and I love me an innocent, good heroine. It's like from another era....

She rocked as Carly. I don't know if it was the writing back then or what, but she was fantabulous!!!

All the succeeding Carly's suck. Claudia sucks too!

Sorry but...I have always thought Marcy Walker was HOMELY, I have never found her attractive or interesting...she and her delivery always came off cold to me.

ATWT:

I hate when Nuke have romanctic moments on the show, I don't know if its the direction, or the actors, but I always get the GAY PORN vibe whenever I watch them. The show makes gay sex & love look so "raunchy". Whenever the two of them kiss its so intense (not in the good way) and over the top, with them pushing each other and grabbing each other. Has this show ever heard of subtlty or romance. They should watch QAF and see how its done. Oh and Van Hansis is the major problem of the two when it comes to this, he always looks like he wants to rape Noah. And if you want an example of what I mean look at the clip of their "almost sex" when Noah was married to Ameera.

I think boring is Beck's specialty. She was always good at playing "poor little rich girl." If they ever made a remake of the Gloria Vanderbilt story, she'd be a great actress to portray middle aged Gloria.

Early on, she was a horrible acctress but when I watched it from the early 90s to 2000s, she became pretty formidable, I think. Bell was superb at putting her in triangles Paul and Danny and dilemmas with Michael and Paul. They don't do that with these young cardboard cut-out Barbies.

Maybe when I was younger, I was naive but I always felt for Danny and Crickett when Phyllis was scheming against them. Look how MAB has switched it up on us, rooting for the flawed characters instead. I wonder if there'll ever be a day when I'll feel sorry for Lily again.
