This is a Feb 13 reply from Watch The Doctors about the 1980s episodes.

“We appreciate everyone's enthusiasm, but we are not prepared to share an update until we have verified dates in place. Everyone is emotionally invested in the show and we don't want to risk giving an update and then having that information change to everyone's disappointment.”

Apparently, they are still ingesting and digitizing, but back in November,44 episodes from Jan-Feb 1980 showed up briefly in a hidden section of the subscription site (I found it searching for something else),but they removed them a few days later

Then a month later, 9 episodes from March-April 1980 surfaced briefly (got to see a few eps of Gracie Harrison as Greta)

I assume that they were testing out the files they already had finished. Hopefully by this spring?? They haven’t posted any new updates since their Aug posting. Will keep you updated if I find anything else!! https://www.facebook.com/101296511536730/posts/460790598920651/

New update about the 1980s episodes in a reply to Rich Bilek's comment in a recent post.

They are still digitizing and captioning the episodes.
That's IMO a positive sign, since they didn't mention anything about the captioning in a previous reply.
I'm thinking they are waiting until everything through Dec 31,1982 is completed.

I just signed up to the website It's Really Good TV to watch The Doctors. I was under the impression that they had all the episodes that have run on Retro TV. I was really disappointed to discover that they don't. There are quite a number of missing episodes for many of the years. From June 1968 for example, there are 4 episodes missing from the last week, 2 episodes from the week before. I really hope they can correct this and add all the episodes!!

The episodes from the late 60s look amazing; colorful, clear, and vibrant! The ones from the mid to late 70s, in comparison, look dull, muddy, washed out. I wonder what happened; did the producers change their video stock?

Jan 87

BURNELL SITTERLY, 44, actor who starred as Dr. Mike Powers on the soap opera The Doctors in the 1970s, killed himself in a friend's home, police said. The body of Sitterly was found Monday hanging off an interior balcony in the living room with the rope tied to an upstairs door knot). He was depressed about his acting career and had spent the past few weeks visiting friends in Cape Cod, New York and Chicago, said Gerald Mast, in whose home the actor's body was found.

Sitterly was having difficulty finding serious roles and was searching for "people interested in the art of theater," Mast said. Sitterly apparently killed himself after an interview at the Northlight Repertory Theater In north suburban Evanston. Sitterly began his acting career in a Chicago hotel lounge in 1965 and later appeared in In Praise of Love on Broadway with Rex Harrison and Julie Harris. He appeared on The Doctors from 1970 to 1976.

    • Maeve makes a few sporadic appearances, but returns full-time the next spring/summer. She's back in time to see Bill and Michelle graduate, although she skulks around town and wasn't going to tell anyone she was alive.
    • Aww, yeah it's very heartbreaking and I mostly enjoyed the Nola/Vanessa scenes because they finally let their walls down and came together in a beautiful moment. So Nola was at the hospital already and bumped into Vanessa, who had MRI papers that fell out of her hand and Nola went down to pick them up and asked her what was going on. Later, Vanessa confided in her about her disease. Then, Nola told Zachary on the beach (he prodded her and already alluded to knowing something was going on with Van), and then Vanessa found out she told him and got a little upset. Now, however, Nola is strangely absent while everyone is mourning her death. I'm curious if Nola will actually tell people about her MRI results. I would assume so. Only Nola, Rick, Roger and Zachary know anything, although there is the MRI results letter from the mail that everyone has missed seeing at home. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point. But... I just saw the next episode and the opening already cut Vanessa out and added Dahlia and Zachary. I guess Maeve is gone for a long time

That will break my heart seeing the town continue to mourn her and assume she's dead. I can't wait to see her return though, and I have to imagine feelings will be torn between loving that she's alive and being very angry she did all of this. While I hate what Vanessa is doing, I'm happy to hear it's not totally against her character. I think you're right, had Henry still been around, she wouldn't put him through this. I'm still surprised she is with Bill, though. I get her feelings on Matt, because she wants him to move on, but still very heartbreaking. I'm glad this was Maeve's choice to have a break vs. being fired.    Interesting, so I'm curious to see who they eventually pair Phillip with. They're flirting with a Phillip/Annie pairing, but I'm not sure if they'll go that route with the Jeva drama, her growing pill addiction, and Rick's past with her.  Ugh, yeah I'm so sad to see Bridget do a total 180 in the last couple weeks. She has always been a strong character from what I've seen, but now she's just bending over backwards to get Hart to love her and it reeks of desperation. Yeah, sure, this new Hart is eye candy, but I'm already tired of seeing Hart/Dinah have sex all over Springfield and the Cayman Islands haha.
    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
