June 15, 200817 yr Member Hmmm... I'd be careful about this. For one thing, CG could have TOLD CZP we'd be getting back to classic ATWT. In which case she's just supplying info that was supplied to her. For another case, in the end, CG wants what CG wants. (And make no mistake, he's been the one dictating long story ever since Hogan left) So even if there's a writing change, something needs to happen to CG before his stamp is removed from that show. Not to be a pessimist or nuthin'.

June 15, 200817 yr Author Member Uh-oh, I don't know if I could trust an actor. (I'm kidding.) But seriously, on the off-chance that Goutman and/or PGP actually went outside the current staff to replace Passanante (and Laiman), who might they get? Oooh! Maybe someone from the "glory days," like Juliet Law Packer? Or maybe he lured over Ron Carlivati? (*ducks*) You know I am worried that ATWT is going to do what GL did. Have co-head writers on their team. If Jean Pissant had been fired Toups would have broke it already.
June 15, 200817 yr Member It's an interview/chat she supposedly had. She said to trust her about the classic ATWT part. As to the writers news....I dont know if that was from CZP or from someone else. Supposedly this was found out the other night at the Emmy technical awards. What? Where? It's not even that a lot of what's going on isn't vaguely like "classic ATWT"....it's that the set ups suck and the fallout is non-existant. I think the Hughes/Stewart war is a good, history laden plot, but not a lot else is. I think the Holden/Carly fallout has potential to be good drama (on the acting alone), but if there's anything Pissy's proven it's that she doesn't do "fallout". Maybe CZP's charged up for Will's return? I really doubt it's anything about a writing change. I think CZP knows the audience is a little put-off by all the recent departures.
June 15, 200817 yr Member CZP probably meant that the stories will be more intergenerational, which is pretty much classic ATWT. Some characters in the same family barely interact, and that needs to be rectified pronto! I'm sure there's some plan to fix the show and I have no doubt that Goutman and Passanante will be the ones implementing this plan. But I think anyone sitting around holding out hope for the halcyon days of CHARACTER-DRIVEN stories will have a long, long wait. Those days are over with.

If only this show were set in Llanview, instead of Oakdale; and called ONE LIFE TO LIVE, instead of AS PAUL RYAN'S THE WORLD TURNS. Edited June 16, 200817 yr by Khan
June 16, 200817 yr Author Member If only this show were set in Llanview, instead of Oakdale; and called ONE LIFE TO LIVE, instead of AS PAUL RYAN'S THE WORLD TURNS. I wouldnt mind the show being "called" As Paul Ryan's World Turns if it was played by someone else instead of awful Roger Howarth.
June 16, 200817 yr Member This reminds me when TPTB had Melody Thomas Scott shilling for them a couple of years ago, telling the rags that the upcoming Kay/Jill/Cane storyline will be a return to classic Y&R. We all know that turned out.

Hell, I wouldn't mind AS PAUL RYAN'S WORLD TURNS if it was written properly. Unlike say, As Katie's World Turns, which would suck no matter who played Katie, IMO. Edited June 16, 200817 yr by P.J.
June 16, 200817 yr Member I had stayed out of it, because it seems like we do this topic once a month. I don't really have a lot of knowledge when it comes to EP's....I remembered Calhoun from the Marland era, and I know Conboy, but I'd have qualms after his GL stint. I was going to mention Lorraine Broderick, because even though her stint on ATWT was considered "boring", she knew how to set up story. I'd love for Carolyn Culliton to return. I was hoping Trent Jones (with his Y&R pedigree) would stick around when he was some kind of "consultant". I think if ATWT wants to bring in someone without ties to the show, they need to have a strong co-writer who does. I think that may be the solution--someone who respects the genre, who doesn't want to conform to the cliches, but knows how to twist them and give the viewers a payoff. Who "the next" Hogan is---I don't have a clue. But Pissante needs to leave---like yesterday. Yes, I blame Goutman for some of the mess we're in, but it's clear to me that the lack of long-term story is a bigger detriment to the show right now. Actually, whoever wrote the show during the strike wasn't too bad...and whoever that was might deserve a shot. It wasn't Goutman doing it all by himself, that's for sure. Trent Jones brief tenure of World Turns wasn't as "some sort of consultant." He was a breakdown writer, and only lasted thirteen weeks. His stint at ATWT was admittedly a disaster. He just didn't get the show.

I'm not really sure how a thirteen week gig qualifies as a disaster, even if he didn't fit in. JP needs some fresh perspective in long term planning. The day-to-day stuff has always been decent, which has never made any sense to me.

It's too bad considering how great he was on GL.
