Members ian
Has anyone heard? has the hammer been lowered? I won't lose sleep over DAYS' cancellation. Surprisingly it was my first IT soap, but Reilly butchered it for me and I can't even watch anymore without rolling my eyes, even long after he's gone. Members juppiter
DAYS was my first soap too. Langan is the one that ruined it for me (early-2001-ish). Haven't been able to get into the show since him. Still, it's comforting for me to know that it's "there," even though I don't watch it anymore. I'd be sorry to see it go. Members Noel
To my understanding, NBC has renewed DAYS until 2009.
Members DrewH
I think they got a 2 year contract, keeping them on NBC until 2010, rather than the usual 5 year contract.
Members jcar03
Rumors where it got an additional pick-up. Its current contract lasts until 2009. So if it has been extended for a year it would be 2010.
Members brimike
Yes, but I believe there's a "cycle" end date at the end of the first year, so NBC can buy out the rest of the contract and cancel it a year early. I could be wrong about that though. Just what I heard.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Nothing's been confirmed by one of the mags, Corday, Sony, or NBC yet... That rumor that it was renewed was spread by some crazy fan who usually posts false information he's heard elsewhere.
Members MTSRocks
With the ratings downfall and innumerable fan complaints, I'd be surprised if the show lasts through 2008.
Members TC
I don't know about that, but this is NBC. I worry that "no news" is not good news. And that's bad news for every other soap. I hope JCAR03 is right. Every extra cycle is an extra chance for this genre.
Members JAS0N47
No news yet. Just checked in with a few people. Nothing to report yet on a pick-up.
Members ian
someone I know who works for the BB and used to work for ATWT (guess who ) knew Hogan and I mentioned that BB must have made a coup getting Eileen Davidson when she left Y&R before Days could snatch her up, and apparently I was told that Hogan wasnt planning on getting her because Days is getting cancelled in 09. Members Max
Despite Zucker's comments to the contrary, I seriously doubt that NBC will cancel DOOL anytime soon. (I would not be surprised if Zucker made a false cancellation threat in a perverted attempt to increase DOOL's ratings.) There are two reasons for this: First, regardless of how bad the ratings have gotten, long running soaps have been immune from cancellation over the past nine years. Secondly, NBC would be crazy to hand over another additional hour to their affiliates. And, since NBC would not want to hand over that hour, the network would be forced to find a replacement. Unfortunately for NBC's soap hating executives, the network's "ideal" replacement--a fifth hour of The Today Show--is simply not feasible: The fourth hour of The Today Show only brings in a tepid rating of 2.1. (While that rating is higher than what Passions received, it represents a huge decline in viewers from the third hour.) A fifth hour would receive even lower ratings and further tarnish NBC's most profitable program.
Members dragonflies
Saw this in an Elle Magazine article about Soaps(the article was more about AMC), nothing new really LOL
Members MrsMahaney
My understanding is NBC should be making an announcement about this at their press tour next month and at this point it is still up in the air. There is however a possibility that a deal with another network is in play if NBC decides not to renew the soap.
Members NYC123
If they do get picked up DAYS is going to have a LARGE buget cut.
