Im watching AMC on SN and I saw a promo for what looks like a new show called MVP debuting this week, I think. Anyone heard of this? Whats the deal? Is this some new original soap coming to the network? Anyone going to watch?

I actually think this is a smart move. It's a genuine soap to the core and that's the type of original programming they should be going for. Cheap, this was a successful show in Canada, but too expensive for them to produce a second season. If this is successful, SOAPnet would produce the next season and keep it on the air.

DaytimeFan said it was bad, but I'm hoping it can fill my Footballers Wives fix. I also love that SOAPnet is showing it with the Emmys. That's old school and gives me hope maybe CBS will air a Y&R special with next year's Emmys.

CHris B I apologize--I see that TVGuide Canada in their pimping of the show said this: "MVP: The Secret Lives of Hockey Wives, SOAPnet/CBC — Sneak peek!

— Want to learn why Canadians fell in love with MVP, the campy hockey soap? Head here to see what all the fuss is about. MVP premières on June 19. I urge everyone to check it out, or I’ll be seriously be disappointed! If the show’s a success, CBC and ABC will co-produce another season (while MVP was a hit in Canada, the show couldn’t afford its budget for a second season)."

The thing is from all I read, and the Globe and Mail covered CBC's decision to first try it on a different night and then to cancel it in much details, it just never got the numbers-- the ratings reported were DISMAL.

Oh Chris B, I'm sorry to disappoint you....but MVP is basically the anti Footballers Wives. It's not campy, fun, wicked, melodramatic. Nothing. It's boring and slow and, essentially, utter crap. It COULD have been something, but the writers obviously thought Canadians wanted boring schlock instead of campy fun.

And it failed because it got HORRIBLE ratings, even by CBC standards.

I remember watching it once for like 5 minutes, then doing something else. Not a great show. It didn't pull me in anyway.

Does SN even still air classic Ryan's Hope or even Port Charles repeats anymore? There was a time where I wish I could get Soapnet in Canada, now not so much.....

Why the Hell don't they have even ONE show that focuses on classic soap episodes? even maybe once a week ONE random classic soap? it wouldn't be hard to do... Full us a bone! The marathons sometimes cover old soaps (though things like Sonny Fest don't) but that's IT. It's really shocking to wastte the resources they have

    • I had to rewind and listen over and over, but it was something about "the color of your money". Anyone else pick up on it? Oh I guess I could try my closed captions later.

    • Ugh, that's just a shame to hear about Bridget/Lucy and David. Not even going to their wedding is awful. I'm not there yet in my watch, but I'll be disappointed with that. And if Nick/Susan are now already gone too, which I'm assuming they are because they're no longer in the end credits, then who even is at this wedding besides family? I hate to hear that about 1997. Btw, I'm happy to hear we're pretty close in our viewing timeline

That comment Amanda makes is weird, but maybe if she's just talking about herself, I'd understand. But otherwise, makes no sense considering the Buzz/Alan rivalry over Reva, Lucy/A-M being a couple and the interaction A-M has with the Coopers throughout and vice versa, Frank/A-M's past.  I can't speak to Harley because I haven't seen her yet, but surely in her years in SF, she had a past with some Spaulding family member haha. That's a shame about Alan not having a reaction to Abby. I was wondering for months now if Abby would ever get back into Reva and Alan's orbit now that everyone is back in SF and away from Goshen, and wouldn't you know it, just last week in March/April 1996, Abby visited both Reva and Alan separately (Alan just gave Abby a job at Spaulding Enterprises). It was so nice to see they both still really cared about Abby, but said to hear that wanes going forward.  Alan just sucks - the most selfish/hateful/arrogant character - so I guess I can't be surprised. He barely tolerates Alex these days, and I guess he's back in A-M's good graces post-Marian. Otherwise, no one else in town likes him now that Reva dumped him. Great observation on the Marcus stuff, and having just seen it, you're right!  The storyline really wasn't about him once he was put in jail, it was really about introducing Griffin (whom I do not like at all), Roger who framed Marcus and accelerating his storyline with Dinah, and putting the pieces together with Marian being the real killer. Marcus is rarely seen while in jail, as your character count proves. I didn't even think about the age different between Marcus and Dahlia, but you're right - yikes. I was actually already getting worried about Rick/Abby's age differences, because Abby's mother told a doctor she was 22 years old, but then Rick said 18 a week later and she hangs out with Michelle and the other high school-aged people, so which is it? But I'd assume Rick is what, in his mid/late-30s? So that pairing I was already starting to question with age difference.  I'll miss Bryan, as he's grown on me while he ages over the last year.  Ahh good to know - RME   Oh this is great, thanks for sharing!!!  Glad to see she's still with us and out there doing work she loves.
