Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread

Thanks for the kind words, Safe and DrW. For anyone who is interested, the Ryan's Bar Online site is now back up — http://ryansbaronline.tripod.com — hopefully for good? The content is still unchanged, and the aesthetics even more antiquated, but I'll leave it up for as long as Tripod/Lycos does the same.

When your posts alerted me to the fact that the site was gone, I figured it was worth a shot at least submitting a ticket to tech support. I got a response earlier today saying that their "systems" had "detected" the "site as a violation," and they were "working to correct the issue." I still have no idea what that means — and I wrote back to ask, but I don't know that I will hear from them again — and by the time I read the e-mail, the site was back online.

Writer Roger Crews has passed away. His widow is actress/writer Louise Shaffer (Search for Tomorrow, Where the Heart Is, Hidden Faces, The Edge of Night, Ryan's Hope, All My Children).

His son says that memorial arrangements have not been made, but a memorial service will probably planned to be held several weeks from now.

I had asked this on other Ryan's Hope forums a couple years ago -- and no one there could answer this

In the November 29, 1988 Soap Opera Digest, Wes Leonard's name was in the RH synopsis. Who was playing Wes in 1988? I don't think it wasn't David Rasche - -and Sam MacMurray, well. I thought he only played the role for a limited time in 1983 because he wasn't interested in a long term soap role.

From SOD

...So the Feds are using the Novak's to flush out Dubujak. The next day, Siobhan receives more roses and a note for Max. Jack gets note from Max, too, claiming he's ready to turn himself in. Everyone's relieved. Unfortunately, it's a trick. Matt sent the roses and the two notes. It's all part of a plan to make Jack look like a fool. Max's so-called surrender is a hoax. And Wes Leonard, Jack's rival, is being paid to get it all on film.

...The door opens and a clown steps out. A stunned Jack and company stand speechlessly by as Wes and a photographer, jump out, clicking away.

    • I don't mind Jan either. If anything, they could be using her more to get her daughter's POV. Not to mention her role as one of the Have-Nots.    I also don't mind the local talent. Just look at soaps that were in NY or the shows that film there, they always go for the local talent and we get to find new faves.
    • I'm not going to watch (because...well...that M-dude...lol) but knowing the history between Henry and Roger, I could see Henry wanting to enable Hart to stay independent of Roger. I could even see it as Henry having the last laugh at Roger. Roger hated "the Henry's" of the world, which basically meant anyone who had money and social prominence. Twice Roger swindled Henry out of a chunk of his fortune, so giving some to Hart, who hates his father, is a form of karma.
    • Ashley and Derek have to go- they really throw off the pace of the show.  Today was the first time I fast-forwarded through their scenes. The writing and acting is just bad for both characters.
    • Jon is stuck in a story that isn't popular but with Cady I feel like the issue is that she was clearly thrown in with no real purpose. I still don't understand why she pops up. I recall early on it being said she owned a spa but we've never seen it. That could've been an interesting location for people to meet. She also could've worked better as Smitty's mom, but instead we get this random agent of Dani's who pops up twice a month? A total waste. I mostly agree. I do feel like Jan could be elevated with a name soap actress, someone like Judi Evans or Kassie DePaiva comes to mind, but they're limited to who is in Atlanta. Keeping that in mind I think the current actress is fine.
    • It's great to see. My thoughts might be a little different, but for the most part, I am excited and interested in most of the storylines. Yeah, you're right. This is probably how she (Dani) normally acts. And, I do not like it!  I agree; this is another distraction while she heals her wounds. If I weren't an Eva fan, she helped me root for her even more. As I said a month ago, I hope they take their time with her modeling agency. I would love to see her face a few obstacles before becoming a huge success.
    • I like that there are a lot of local performers on this soap and I'm glad they've resisted so far on hiring too many soap performers.   Cady has been awkward on the show thus far and Jon seems to have polarizing as well. I say focus on the local talent and giving those people a job and exposure.. and leave the P & G soap opera performers in the past.
    • Who do you think would be good for the show among the ATWT/GL cast?
