John Blazo was a hot hot piece of ass, and a sensitive, understated actor with a good wry humor. I have always thought the show did him a huge disservice with his material, complete with a truly bizarre scene where he and Nana Visitor laid in bed together talking about how they looked like brother and sister.

Apparently Claire Labine was writing Game of Thrones before GRRM did.

As posted here a while ago and in the Almost Became thread – Kathryn Breech (Karen Wolek #1 on One Life To Live ) said she was offered the role of Faith but turned it down because she didn't want to be a recast. Then Nancy Barrett began as Faith.

In an interview, when she was on another soap, Nicolette Goulet said she felt they were still writing for Kate's Mary for most of her run – she felt finally near the end they were writing for her.

My thoughts on the other recasts shown here:

Robyn Millan - she looked too old for the role. Very affected. I have no idea if she was meant to last longer than she did.

Nancy Barrett - I loved Nancy on Dark Shadows, but she seemed very wan and strangely insecure here, and again she looked a little old for the material, not helped by the terrible styling of the show

Mary Carney - she was OK. The problem was I didn't like Mary Ryan, I never liked Mary, even with Kate Mulgrew, although Kate salvaged some of the material with her charm and chemistry with co-stars.

Kathleen Tolan - wretched. One of the top three worst recasts in all of daytime history. Anti-chemistry with Michael Levin, inability to speak, bull-in-a-china shop line readings. She's the main reason Mary was killed off IMO.

Nicolette Goulet - again, odd line readings. Not much chemistry with Levin. The problem for her was that by this time the show had lost track of who Mary was as a character. Siobhan had also stolen much of her thunder. I do think she was very good in her last few weeks in the role, especially her final confrontations with Jack.

Random thoughts --

I think Robyn Millan, Nancy Barrett, and Mary Carney (much theater) were all a great deal more experienced (in acting) than Nicolette Goulet.

Mary Carney often had that theatrical line delivery that Kate had.

I would have liked to have seen Nancy Barrett with John Gabriel (not necessarily on RH, but somewhere).

Pat #3 was SCARY. He just seemed so angry and mean - the total antithesis of the easygoing, playful Pat #1 (Malcolm Groome) and the soft-spoken, sweet and gentle Pat #2 (John Blazo). It's not hard to see why he lasted less than three months - and why the character was sent away until they lured Malcolm Groome back to the show.

Actually, Pat did return before Groome reprised the role in 1983. James Patrick Clarke assumed the role in 1982 and played Pat until 1983 when Groome returned. Clarke headed over to Search for Tomorrow where he played Jack Benton who raped Sunny Adamson.

I did not care for Mary Ryan for much of the time, either.

As for Nancy Barrett being too old as Faith, the role was created for Jada Rowland. I was then decided that Jada Rowland would be too old for the role. I do not know who is older (Nancy Barrett or Jada Rowland). The original Faith, Faith Catlin, reminded me of Jada Rowland, and this was before I knew that Faith was created for Jada Rowland.

I LOVED Kathleen Tolan. I don't think that she was bad or was a bad recast at all! I also liked Mary Carney as Mary #2 (but not as much as Kathleen Tolan). Mary resembled Helen Gallagher a lot, and she reminded me of a young Debbie Reynolds.

To rate the actresses who played Mary, my choices are Kathleen Tolan, Mary Carney, Kate Mulgrew, and Nicholette Goulet (who I hated).

I think that the worst recast was Robyn Millan as Delia. Some now say that she was only temporary, but I had thought that she was a permanent recast. It is really strange to me, though, that she was so bad because Ileen Kristen was told to watch tapes of Robyn Millan from Where the Heart Is when Ryan's Hope began and to take notes on the acting of Miss Millan.

I had forgotten the actors who played Pat except from Malcolm Groome and John Blazo. One year, SoapNet had a St. Patrick's Day marathon of Ryan's Hope. I saw the fourth one.

I am now seeing the third one. I liked them all! However, I feel that Patrick #4 was miscast but did a good job trying to play the role.

    • Under all of Madonna's social media today there is this wave of negative, toxic, absurd comments by Lady Gaga fans telling her how Gaga surpassed her in concert in Copacabana. I mean... Who the hell cares? Why are these fan communities so freaking toxic??? I'm sure Madonna doesn't care... But still. Have some respect for M. Leave her social media alone. Go cheer Gaga and be happy. Why come and spew hate on M??? Crazy world.
    • FYI, again, Ruth/Letitia is not in either of these 2 episodes. So that concludes the 4 episodes I had from Nov. 1983. I don't have the October episodes.
    • Eddie has begun uploading the 1990 episodes. I'm so happy about that. I was mindfully taking a break till there's plenty of episodes I can binge watch when I feel like it. Now that 1989 is complete... I can't wait to press play on February 1989 and resume where I left off.

Me when someone asks me to be proper and demure.
    • This is just a guess but I feel like the fact that they keep mentioning her dead husband is for a reason. We know Martin has a secret that likely involved someone dying. Martin's victim could be Alan which Leslie/Dana either knows about or finds out and she uses that to blackmail the family into letting her crimes slide.
    • Just thinking how the Ruth/Leticia guest spot really cemented how Days had changed. Stunt casting with a campy/comedy character in a 'wacky' storyline was something that a few years previously would have been completely out of place on Days (and most other soaps for that matter).
    • I am interested to see how they handle Leslie/Dana down the road. If she continues in this path, it would be unrealistic to have her around. Like other shows have done this with a 'villian' character and ended up with people looking stupid putting up with someone they detest. Another thought-could they be building up to a murder story? Maybe Les/Dan will be left in a coma and we will have a whodunit with several characters as suspect. It would also be a chance to redeem her I wonder how long the show will go w/o resorting to soap cliche stories-twins,switched at birth, murder mystery, long lost child etc
    • Yeah, Martin really did make me laugh when him and Smitty jumped up to drag Leslie out. I am interested in seeing how this fallout will impact his storyline as well. Especially since he is so protective regarding his family/family's image. I am interested in seeing how he will interact with Eva for the time being, they did have a warmer interaction earlier on once they met. But he seems to have doubts about her possibly being Ted's right now. I wonder how long it might take for him to come around with her. I could see the younger generation warming up to her quicker than the older ones. Though of course I think there will be anger/tension for a while regarding the reveal and her role in it. Perhaps Naomi/Chelsea will ease up on Eva first then eventually Martin/Kat might down the line. I really do love Nicole. I'm glad that DD is playing her. She really is the heart of the family and also agree the show. She is so easy to root for and I'm looking forward to seeing how things work out for her. I am enjoying the development of most of the characters on this show. I enjoy most of them including Bill with his trifling self lol. I do feel that Bill's love for his daughters is genuine and that gives him some depth. A few of the characters I don't care for that much (like Bill, Ashley, Vanessa). I wasn't too big on Andre at first, but I am warming up more to him as the actor is settling into the role. I like most of the characters on this show. Also, I am interested in seeing what happens if Eva indeed goes and lives with the new doctor that was introduced. I could see this adding another layer to her story, maybe she will become more vixen-ish, on what type of relationship they end up having. And/or maybe she will end up becoming more hardened as she deals with being an outcast, especially if she falls out with Leslie as well. I think that AM will do a good job of showcasing the different layers of this character as she deals with the fallout of the affair/paternity reveal.

Got another sad news from the Bahamian community (not a celebrity)  https://www.instagram.com/p/DJMSrYCgyes/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Former Bahamian Senate President J Henry Bostwick, Husband of former 1st Bahamian Female Cabinet Minister Dame Janet Bostwick is dead yesterday on his 86th birthday.    Thanks and for those who've aren't familiar with the talk shows in The Bahamas on this thread here, his talk show named The Freedom March with Dr Rodney Moncur that airs on ILTV and The Beat 103.5 FM Nassau every weekday afternoons. IIRC, he suffered a illness before he died.  Here's the link for his final taping of the show before his death: https://ewnews.com/this-is-powerful-rodney-moncurs-final-sign-off/
