Gina Gallego seems like such a sweetheart from all of her interviews, but I couldn't stand how her Santana was written. She was a whiny, spineless mess. It would have been a good move if they had tried to get Ava Lazar back in 1991 when Santana was brought back onto the canvas, rather than casting Wanda De Jesus. Jed Allan did not get along with her AT ALL, and it just seems that WDJ's Santana was too old.

I agree with you about the writing (it was so degrading, especially her relationships with Cruz and Keith), but I enjoyed watching Gallego as I thought she acted the hell out of the role. She had some superb scenes with Gina and with Eden. I wish they'd built more on that because I think she could have played strength, moreso than a number of other women who were brought in to be victims, like Kristen Meadows.

Gina Gallego did have decent chemistry with Richard Eden (Brick), after Kerry Sherman (Amy) left. It seemed that they were being tested as a possible couple, but then the idea was dropped. I wonder why, because SB completely wasted RE's talents until he finally followed KS out the door a year later.

SB seemed to drop tons of people rather than doing anything with them. It's odd, as surely they had the budget to keep people on a bit longer. I guess they just didn't want to.

It took awhile, but they did. There is a lovely scene from 1986, right after the explosion that killed Amy, where Brick is wandering the ruins of the building. Lionel and Sophia arrive to try to comfort their long-lost son. Here it is, courtesy of our very own Wendy:

Researched a series of clips highlighting the Eden rape and aftermath...and I can see how the reveal of her OB as rapist would unsettle the viewers..especially when he was one of the people examining her post rape.  It was like he violated her all over again.

Marcy Walker was truly the stand out...and she had a lot of great support.

I also liked her therapist Heather...michael's sister.  It's a shame she didn't last too long cause she could have been used well  in 1990/1991.

It's uncanny just how much Marcy Walker and Carrington Garland resembled each other. They really did look like sisters.

This episode makes me understand a bit more why Hayley possibly drifted towards Jake in the future. Ted was such a righteous dumb ass and hot head in the episode by outright blaming Jake for raping Hayley when they had no proof.

To old SB fans, did Ted get worse in writing post-Laken? I just find him so annoying in this pairing with Hayley that I root for Jake to come take her off Ted's hands.

The Dobsons in their second round side create Angela Raymond...but I didn't like that they made Mason/CC tread water in their relationship or that Mason suddenly didn't like Sophia again.

Katrina was written a bit better under Pam Long..but by then..the character was beyond saving.

Yes!  Angela was the last GREAT new character on SB.  She was one of the few things that kept me watching that last year.

The Dobsons totally screwed the pooch in Round 2 of their tenure. They would not have needed a faux Kelly replacement if they hadn't fired Carrington Garland, who was popular and had chemistry with the cast. Eileen Davidson is a good actress, but she was woefully miscast as Kelly. (And a small petty part of me was glad to see her version fail since she made a bunch of derogatory comments in SOW about Kelly being stupid before she took on the role or whatever.)

I get Eden was gone, but I think - had Carrington not been fired - she could have filled the void on her own. JMO here.

Agreed that the show should have been handed over to Carrington's Kelly.  When Marcy almost left in 1990 (for Bar Girls), that's what Pratt and Conboy were setting up- Carrington actually aired more than Marcy that year.  That was their big mistake.

Was that during the Quinn/Robert story?

Yes.  I believe initially that year though, Robert disappeared for a bit and she was paired with Craig Hunt.  Then Robert came back and she went back to him.  Then Quinn and Flame/Debra London.  Re-watching some of that storyline and Flame was such a wild unique character.  I LOVE HER!!!
