Members All My Shadows
I love you. No, really. I honestly, truly, deeply, sincerely *love* you, unconditionally, for this post. I just might name a kid Soapsuds after you. Never before had I realized exactly why I don't like Noah/Luke together, I mean, besides the obvious (uneven writing, unclear motives, contrived nature of the pairing, the suckass sub-story with Colonel Crazy, etc.). Luke and Kevin would have, and SHOULD have been the story. That made sense. We saw with them everything that we needed to see. Kevin was introduced as Luke's friend. Luke's attraction to him wasn't heavy-handed at first. It slowly went on from the back rub to Luke coming out to Will and Jade, and then his parents. And then throughout the summer, during the stuff with Damian, we still saw Kevin in Luke's life. I truly looked forward to the days where Luke would bump into Kevin at the country club because those scenes were realistic. They had the suspense factor going. We didn't have this "Hi, nice to meet you Noah..........OMG, I'm falling for a straight guy!" nonsense. We even got an explanation from Luke to Jade as to why he liked Kevin in the first place. And the history was there, they'd been best friends for years. I never got to see any of the Raven Lake hijinks, but even after that stuff, after Kevin apologized for calling Luke a fag, that storyline was as fertile as ever. They should have went into Kevin and Luke's senior year with a juicy story! The point I'm trying to stress is that Luke and Kevin made SENSE. The audience saw it, the audience wanted it. It made sense! Remember the time they got drunk and fell asleep together at Lucinda's guest house and Luke woke up with his arm over Kevin the next morning? That's the kind of stuff I'm talking about. I don't know...maybe it's that with Noah, they changed the character of Luke considerably. He went from a teenager slowly coming out of the closet into this almost intimidating person who practically pulled Noah out of his. The writers really, really, really, really, really, really fucked up with the entire thing, to tell you the truth. I honestly didn't realize where the root of my disenchantment with Noah and Luke came from, but now I do. I almost want to believe that Luke and Kevin were ruined for the sake of the pisspoor, boring Luke and Noah. And wow, within the time it took me to type this post, I think I've become very anti-Noah/Luke. Guess I better put my bulletproof vest on.
Members Soapsuds
Love your last two sentences. The post summed it all up. Luke and Kevin were friends way before Luke developed feelings for Kevin. Luke was bang with Noah. He saw him. He wanted him with no real development of character on Noah's part. This story could still be saved if they brought back Kevin. Kevin could admit to Luke that he was hiding in the closet. That he wanted a relationship with him. Thus having Luke torn between Noah and Kevin. That would make a great story without needing the kissing the Nuke junkies want. I would be over the moon if we had that kind of storyline for Luke. Members All My Shadows
So would I. I'd fall in love with Luke Snyder again if they went back to the way he used to be. And it's still not too late. Luke and Kevin, if the show is still follow a certain time frame, supposedly graduated from Oakdale Latin last year, so they could easily have Kevin show up now, a long, long time since he and Luke have seen each other. And they could catch up, and Kevin could sooo be in a bad place because of the anxiety of being closeted. Truth be told, I never liked the idea of Noah having coming-out drama right after Luke did, and I wouldn't exactly like a third coming-out story, but with Kevin it would make sense. His home life definitely wasn't stable, IIRC. But yeah, Kevin could meet up with Luke, come out and claim to be ready to start something with him, but Luke'll tell him that he's with (ugh!) Noah now. And Kevin would fall deeper into the depression he's already in, the depression that he thought being with Luke would end. And the story would continue after that. I almost feel as if they (TIIC) see Kevin and Noah as interchangeable characters. They probably figured that we saw buildup and no action with Luke and Kevin, so it would be perfectly fine to hit the ground running with Luke and Noah. I'm sure the crazy amounts of press had an affect on the whole thing too.
Members Ann_SS
All My Shadows, I like your story to re-introduce Kevin into Luke's life. Instead of Kevin becoming depressed, I can see him starting to drink heavily again and act out due to the stress of coming out to his obnoxious father. Members All My Shadows
Thanks! That's sort of what I was trying to hint at. As Kevin as an alcoholic would be effin wonderful, because then he can attend meetings and then he could become friends with a certain doctor who was notorious for spending most of the early 1970s drunk off her ass! Members bakedghoti
Ann_SS ICAM! "Regardless of Jake and Van's sexuality, I doubt that they were ever going to kiss on the red carpet to appease their demanding fans." only luke/noah fans would demand that the actors kiss in an event. they are actors. they are not their characters. how pathetic and nutty to project their desires for the characters onto the actors! what's sad is the luke/noah soap fans and people in the media are pushing for this. "I don't even call what Van and Jake do acting. Jake is atrocious and Van is only slightly better." LOL! My thoughts exactly! hansis is less worse! "I'm not sure gullible is the word I would use for Luke/Noah fans, but there are definitely some crazies and extremists among that crowd. Some of the comments on the soap boards suggest unbalanced views of reality and that Tala Ashe (Ameera) will be getting hate mail any day now, if she hasn't already." Extremists is hitting the nail on the head! they defend anything and everything luke/noah, and if you are not on board, then you're "homophobic" according to these extremists!
