Members Cheap21
Special Effects Report Card Wanna know how it feels to watch Guiding Light these days? Go over to Home Depot and put your head in a paint shaker. That'll give you a clue. Sadly, the shows much anticipated uberhyped "new look" - which debuted Feb 29 - is a pretentious disaster, full of nauseating jump cuts and herky jerky camera moves that do nothing to enhance the drama. The harsh flat lighting and tinny sound are atraight out of a 1970s porn flick. And I pity the poor divas! The reality-seeking handhld cams are shoved so tight on Kim Zimmer's puss you can practically count her nose hairs. Don't get me wrong: Theres a place in soaps for this cinema verite stuff, like the recent Days episode when a private jet was a bout to crash - it was so raw and real I felt as if I were grasping for izugen right along with the characters. GH has been shaking up its look: Witness the thrilling CGI scene that had Sam dangling from a bridge over a raging river. Days and GH are finding ways to involve and intrigue the viewers visually. I fear GL may be driving them away.

Members Chris B
For two weeks GL is up in viewers whereas GH continues to drop. We'll see if GL can continue gaining viewers, but so far the look isn't driving them away.
Members SoapQueen89
Certainly agree with him about the DOOL plane crash - it was one of the most awesome'st days DOOL has had in a very long time. Has he been watching GH and their green screen special effects? It's sad. Really. Looking at the ratings for GH, I don't think the viewing audience agrees with you Mr. Logan. Members Cheap21
IDA. I think the use of the CGI shots for the outdoor night scenes have been good. Its much better than the real outdoor shots that GL has
Members jcar03
Agree about GL and DAYS but not the GH special effects which were terrible. GL almost made me sick last week with the sudden jerky moments. What is up with the random camera angels to? It seems that they want viewers to think someone else is watching with the behind the bushes and in the closet shots they give.
Members dragonflies
This from the guy who praised AMC in one of his recent columns, kind of hard to take him seriously after that IMO Days plane crash was very well done, GH car crash: pfffttt
Members DevotedToAMC
I don't even think he watches soaps. Does he? He also looks like Michael Jackson pre plastic surgery GH car crash: pfffttt>>> That's because Sam the Ho did not die
Members bakedghoti
Michael Logan is the BEST at reporting on soaps! He, delacroix and mimi torchin are the only ones worth taking seriously. People try as the might to copy his writing style, but Logan's columns are a must read for soap fans.
Members DevotedToAMC
So you say...IMO, the dog next door can report better on soaps. And I am not exaggerating. Tuffy is a smart german shepherd.
