Members DaytimeFan
Mark H: I think you are bang on the money. I also think you might be very correct about who is actually running Y&R. A question though, I must have missed it: what was Katherine's 'stumble'?
Members MarkH
Katherine got up from a conversation about Australia at Crimson Lights with Jill and Cane. And she got dizzy and almost fell. They had to catch her. She shrugged it off and they went inside. That stuff NEVER "just happens" on soaps. They are clearly setting up something...stroke? tumor? diabetes? Who knows?
Members DaytimeFan
Boy I sure missed that one! Must have been watching a damn commercial! Hmmmm well when you say she was discussing Australia maybe Katherine's repressed memories about giving away baby Phillip/Cane are beginning to surface. Katherine's already had a stroke, Raul had diabetes and Jana still has a tumor.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
You could be onto something, MarkH. Y&R is simply too good right now to be run by scabs and I highly doubt Josh Griffith is the only major force behind that. There's something we don't know about what's going on behind the scenes, but whatever it is, it's working.
Members Khan
If what you say is true, MarkH, then I think it's possible - just possible - that Katherine's little episode could be foreshadowing for a Cane-is-Phillip undo.
Members MarkH
Oooooooooooh. Good one! I like Cane, though, and wouldn't want to lose him. Could they undo Jill as Kay's daughter while they're at it?
Members Khan
I'm sure you're not the only one who likes Cane, MarkH. I, myself, don't have a problem w/ him, or w/ Daniel Goddard. But is he Jill's son? Absolutely not. That, I'm afraid, can't be (un)done. As I've said before, I don't buy the backstory, but the only way to undo it would be to say Liz Foster was lying, which is harder for me to believe than Jill being Kay's daughter. Besides, Jill-is-Kay's-daughter could have been a promising development, had the show not allowed their long-standing feud to dissipate. LML promised a long time ago that Cane-is-Phillip would re-ignite that feud. As of right now, though, I've yet to see that come to pass.
Members DaytimeFan
I would be thrilled if Cane/Phillip was undone. I am also of the opinion that Kay/Jill could also be undone quite easily and believably, but that's a whole other thread.
Members juppiter
I've been saying this for years DaytimeFan. Often times, soaps do [!@#$%^&*] and we say, "come on, PTB, you think I'm an idiot?" But I would play stupid if Cane/Phillip and Kay/Jill were undone. They were huuuuge mistakes (though I do want Cane to stay on the show) and I would gladly pretend to be stupid if TPTB undid them.
Members juppiter
BTW I definitely agree with MarkH. IMO, Josh Griffith and Maria Arena Bell are the HWs, forming the stories and writing breakdowns. BUT I also think that they're being anywhere from influenced to directed by someone else. Who? Bell Dramatic Creations, IMO. If Y&R wanted filler, it would have gone with scabs like it did in 1988. But I think Sony/Bell were royally pissed at LML for striking, and abandoned her vision to punish her for that. I have to say that as much as we complain about soaps today vs. the 80s, they made a smart choice going with FiCore instead of scabs this time around. For once they learned a lesson based on the past. Whodathunkit?
Members Kubla Khan
Any network or show would love to have a FiCore HW instead of a scab HW. It's much easier and is actually LEGAL within the guild. LOL. It's not some big decision they had to make.

Members Khan
I'm not convinced having FiCore writers writing these shows is more beneficial, for lack of a better word, than having scabs.
Members Ryan
I think she means as far as their reputation. Having a writer who's fi-core is less controversial than someone breaking strike rules to write in secret.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Even Nelson Branco, who hated Y&R under Latham, is liking the show these days:
