That's exactly what I wondering. Emotions are very raw at this point. And with it being so close to the nomination/voting period for the Emmys I wondered if the union would or had ever in the past come out and urge their members to not support certain writers/storylines/shows/actors because they were written by former members who went fi-core.

If it only effected the writing categories... I would be in full support of it. But if some of the performers don't get the recognition they deserve because their scenes were written by those that crossed the picket lines.... well that would be really unfair.

I completely agree. I don't know what to say. I've deleted and backspaced like crazy typing my reply and... I just don't know what to say.

Television is probably one of the MOST unstable jobs anyone can have, and I don't understand where the HELL this extreme sense of entitlement is coming from with both of these women! Alburger with her Nordstrom's comment set me off like crazy, and Page? OMG! After that $200 haircut comment, I wanted to smack her in the face with a damn Flowbee!

And clearly not all TV writers are like this. The ones who have posted on various blogs all over the place (not just soaps - but on deadlinehollywood and unitedhollywood) come across as fairly modest, and just asked for a fair deal. Why is it the only two are these two soap writers who clearly didn't suffer anymore than anybody else. They were ALL out of work - what makes THEIR trials and tribulations so tough? I didn't hear exwriter or Peter Brash whining about how awful and put-upon they were.

It's hilarious to me that Elizabeth Page is the one saying stuff like this. First, it's so stuck up, but it's not like this is a Kate Hall type, who got her first Industry job shortly before the strike started. Elizabeth Page has been writing in daytime for over 25 years. She had a long tenure at AMC in the 80s, had a long tenure at AW in the 90s, went back to AMC and was co-HW for a while, and then spent seven years at ATWT as a script writer. You mean to tell me that after such a long career, she didn't save or invest any money? 25+ years of work didn't help her become financially comfortable? No, you don't make as much as a screenwriter when you write soaps, but you make VERY nice money, and after 25 years of doing it, you shouldn't be living paycheck to paycheck, unless you're extremely shitty with money management.. I think it's hilarious that she makes it sound like she was on the edge of poverty. Girlfriend must really love her expensive haircuts then!

And, yes, Lizzie, it's very possible for an ex-soap writer to make a good living outside of daytime. So many ex-soap writers have segued into other media work and many have taken up positions involving theater work & stage companies. It doesn't start & end with soaps, so please, spare us the tears!

EXACTLY!

Thank you, Kubla, for echoing my sentiments.

I'm surprised she isn't bald already.

I pray EP has learned to save up a little money between now and when she's ready for retirement. The way Social Security's going these days....

Judging from the article and the list of names provided elsewhere, I don't think she did. But if she did? Then she definitely has nothing to complain about, lol.

i dont understand the hate steming from what she wrote.

its the lifestyle she leads. could her and her family lead a cheaper lifetsyle? yes. but why? why would they when they could lead the one they have been? you wouldnt lead a upper lifestyle if you could? i sure would.

i also understand everything shes saying. furthermore she wasnt insulting anyone like others have. shes just saying this strike really f'd up her lifre and wanted it over with IMHO.

    • What are the additional surprises that Leslie has up her sleeve?
    • And that's the power of William J. Bell and his co-executive producers. Truth be told, I know people have heralded the return of Edward J. Scott last year (and yes, his return helped tighten up the visual look of production under the present regime as senior producer); however, I always felt like David Shaughnessy's vision (especially as a director) was stronger for Y&R. His Y&R had a darker, richer look that I feel like Scott never had, especially in the high-definition era.
    • That would be key; I know they have a "Tribeca" set that's active at the moment, so they could easily use the exterior of that set and then create "indoor" sets on the next set budget. I think that'd be a key idea. I love the community lots we presently have, although there is always room for more.

Like, you cannot tell me that cannot be some kind of shopfront. Or even a salon front Serenity Beauty & Hair?
    • They really did; I know the transition wasn't as beautiful as many thought it should have been, but at least with Mulcahey at the helm, I felt like there was going to be resolve at some point... even if we didn't know what it was at the time. Seeing everyone turn against Sonny, except for Ava (with her mysteriously nefarious reasons), was beautiful to see. Plus, Mulcahey swiftly fixed Alexis' law license issue that had dragged on far too long. Again, was it perfect? No. But did I get a sense that Mulcahey, if given a true chance, could have done some effective changes? Yes. Very glad to know I am not alone in this, and yes, Harper's chemistry with Sawandi Wilson's Isaiah has been lovely. But it seems like every time there is a viable match, TPTB nix it before it can truly begin.
    • Reading all the theories here and on twitter.  Someone wondered if June is connected to Leslie? So now we have June possibly connected to Hayley, to Samantha&Tyrell, or to Leslie. I love that we don't know! To be honest, the first time she aired, I didn't think June was connected to any major character.  I thought she was simply a client who might prove to have an interesting backstory as part of the "have-nots".   But then June dropped the photograph, so that has to be an anvil or mean something.
    • Thanks for the factoid, that's so interesting! (The character, though, was not, LOL. Ridiculous storyline). You know what? Even though he was a core family member, I think you are right. I would much rather they had kept Alan Michael on the canvas to represent the second Spaulding generation. (Of course, they would have had to write some good stories for the character, which, who knows if they would/could have). Reva, yes, I agree. Her shelf life expired when she drove that car off the bridge. The ever increasing desperation to keep her character relevant after she came back was very difficult to watch.
    • I don't suppose you have that August 4, 1995 episode @soapfan770 has with Hope throwing Nikki out of The Newman Ranch?
    • I have taken extremely long breaks from the show because of Sonny and I didn’t watch in the 90’s so I didn’t realize this was a crutch the show used all the time. Hell even though Maurice hates it, it was the most I could tolerate Sonny because he was written as the ass.hole he actually is at his core. His meds working again don’t erase all the characters I’ve either liked or accepted that I had to watch he and Jason murder and somehow come out as the good guys.
    • When I saw the pic of two kids on a stoop, I immediately though it was Samantha and Tyrell but that could be a red herring. The picture is quite old so maybe it is Hayley and June. This would help to bring Naomi back into Hayley and Bill's orbit. If June is Tyrell and Samantha's mother, that story would seem to be a dead end - unless Martin and Smitty adopted them through improper means. I did wonder if Anastasia is who Shanice has been chatting with during her shift. Her line to Ted about making her mouth even bigger? I was scandalized. Anastasia has to return soon.
    • I would DIE if Shanice’s mom lived beyond the gates and was just as messy I loved her so much. Give. Me. More. Absolutely loved this scene. Looking forward to more bonding between them. She is such a find. If her agents are smart, they’re booking her on bigger things as soon as possible. I want to see her blow up. She is THAT good to me. Ambyr and Trisha are the stars of this show for me and why I watch. Bingo. This show actually feeling like a soap that moves has made it so hard for me to watch the others anymore. I love you Thank god you said this. I wish we’d stop taking the bait but this needed to be said. White male leads cheat ALLLLLLLL the time. But this poster seems to think omg two black men that cheated decades apart are about to set us back somehow. I’m about to add them to the ignore list with Donna, I’m sick of the baiting. This was perfectly stated. Preach my friend, preach. As for yesterday’s episode I loved it. The show is handling the fall out from the Eva reveal so damn well for me. And I LOVED that Ted final scene holding Eva’s hand. I guess I’m in the minority since the recast announcement was made but I will miss Maurice and his chemistry with all of his costars as Ted and really wish he could’ve played the entire fall out of the story.
