DAYS: SOD Headline + Actor Exit Interview

This reeks of the bigger problem DAYS has - I'm so distrusting of TPTB's in terms of firings and deaths and well pretty much everything. I no longer take their firings or deaths seriously, it's a big whatever. Therefore something like this has absolutely no impact on me because I don't buy it, by the time I buy it - it won't much matter. DAYS slowly but brilliantly murdered the trust between the show and the audience and that's part of the reason it's having such a horrible time getting back up.

One. I don't think the story is over for John Black. Two. I don't believe this AT ALL. 3. Hogan and ES are running this show now (hopefully) and the quality has once again improved.

I'm just going to sit back, watch Days, and see what unfolds before I fly off the handle.

He was always a fave, and good for him for being able to put things into perspective and move on.

Reading this made me sad because, even though I gave up on DAYS years ago, I've always hoped that it would pick itself up and become enjoyable again. I guess this cements it for me: this will be the next soap to go.

So do I. The TSJ interview is a good example. This Drake interview doesn't feel complete. His answers are short and there isn't that much reflection there. It all feels rather cliche, almost intentional. I just feel like there is more here.

Also, I don't blame Hogan and Meg for J&M not being a part of this story. The phasing out of J&M began prior to Hogan and only got worse under Hogan. In June and July, J&M were actually getting material (a good example is the adventure to find Tony). They didn't get anything after that, which is weird. Hogan is not perfect but there is no way he would disregard that much history by not even doing anything to acknowledge J&M's history with Stefano. The man knows the history. He doesn't apply it well but he knows it and looks into it so there is no way I buy him being responsible for them not being a bigger part of this.

Maybe I'm thinking of something different, but since TSJ's contract was up this past Spring I'll say: did you forget the month he was off the air, and how the storylines did work because he was gone (completely missing Evangeline's coma and exit)? That's because it took so long for him to re-sign his contract, and another actress actually did leave.

I believe that the majority of people--I'm not talking about businesses, but people like Drake--are honest (and according to psychology, they are). If he says that he has left, if he says that he's got new management and is looking at new opportunities, then he probably is.

The fact of the matter is, the new regime means business. The minute that Y&R's casting director came on board, I figured that the people who couldn't act would be weeded out. Sorry, Drake is one of them. He is just...awful. REALLY bad. And its even worse that after 21 years, he's just as bad as ever. No improvement. Its sad.

Trevor, Drake, Marcus (i'm assuming hes gone soon), BYE BYE!

Its nice to see that even small parts like Lauren and Morgan are now played by people with actual skill.

Who woulda thunkit?

im looking forward to this and hope dee hall becomes the star of the show once again.

Trevor's "exit" interview was done in April or May of 2006, before the execution storyline. They did the "exit" interview to throw everyone off to the conclusion of Todd's execution.

His contract wasn't up for negotiation in 06.

Man, I am not sad about him going because I have never been a huge fan of him especially after all this identity crap, and Drake's acting isn't too good, and I was and even am now a bit excited but at the same time after just seeing that article it still is a bit hard if that makes sense.

Next week will be emotional.

    • I like this Jordan, now. I didn't at first, but she got better. I just loved it that she told Curtis he needed to confide in someone else, not her! About him & his wife. I had been saying just that to the TV minutes before. Often I feel she is painfully underwritten but in a way maybe that's par for the course for blacks on this soap. I think there are other examples.
    • I think it was largely done because they championed OLTL (even when it didn't deserve it) and saw the shows as up against each other in terms of which would be cancelled, so seemed to think any success AMC had would put OLTL in danger.
    • I think June is the kids' mother and potentially Leslie's sister. There's enough story thre especially given Martin's feelings towards Leslie. It would make things even messier if he killed her husband, further intertwining her into his life
    • Same. And you know I've been trying my best with Y&R and how I feel about GH.

Also same.    Amen. And not alone in that minority.  I'm still wondering if that was a good drop off point for him all day. In a way...it truly is given what Ted and Eva's arc has been so far. But I will miss Maurice all the same.
    • This is probably more for the classic thread, but for me this type of writing starts ramping up around the time of Taggert's arrival, where a character pays lip service to Sonny's flaws but there is no real analysis and we are ultimately meant to be on his side. And I think it just accelerates, as there always gotchas and outs. Like Laura blaming Sonny for Lucky's "death" when we knew Helena was responsible. It's the type of writing I find most manipulative because they play audience criticisms against them.
    • I hope none of the theories of about June amount to anything and she just goes away. There’s nothing interesting about the story or character, and I think fans are constantly looking for deeper connections in everything.
    • You hit the nail on the head.  Nope, you are not alone. I like her too.
    • Out of these, I hope she isn't connected to Samantha and Tyrell. I just don't see a long term story there. I hadn't thought of a connection to Leslie but now that you bring it up...what if we find out June is Haley's sister and both were abandoned and raised in foster care. June ended up on the streets and Haley ended up with the Duprees. The mother who dumped them in foster care? Leslie. If they end up making Eva a stolen child of Nicole's, it would be a good way to develop some family for Leslie to help keep her on the canvas. She could ultimately make up with her kids and then she'd have access to Bill's money/power which could help her become a long term rival for the Duprees.
    • This was a HUGE story on the show for many years. Justin (Ross's brother) and Jackie Marler were Phillip's real parents. They showed a lot of the backstory in flashback when Jackie came on the show. Jackie caught Justin in bed with another woman. She was so devastated she divorced him immediately. She found out she was pregnant. I'm a little hazy on this--I THINK she told him she had an abortion, but maybe not. Maybe she just never told him she was pregnant. Anyway, she decided to give the baby up for adoption. She went to Europe (I think it was Amsterdam) to have the baby. She had the same doctor as Elizabeth Spaulding, who also was pregnant. The doctor was a personal friend of Alan's. He told Alan that Elizabeth's baby would be born dead and she would not be able to have more children. Instead of telling his wife the truth, Alan conspired with the doctor to do a baby switch. The doctor knew Jackie was planning to give her baby up, and she agreed to let the Spauldings have Phillip. Elizabeth woke up from the surgery and was told Jackie's baby was hers. Jackie almost immediately regretted it. She insinuated herself into Alan and Elizabeth's life so she could be near Phillip. They all became good friends. When Alan and Elizabeth returned to the states, they stayed with Jackie at first. Eventually, Alan and Elizabeth divorced and Jackie married him so she could be Phillip's stepmother. It was a disatrous marriage and they also divorced.  Justin found out the truth. Justin and Jackie remarried. Elizabeth found out and wanted them to have custody of Phillip. Alan, of course, was furious but for some odd reason eventually agreed to it. (He did not know at the time Justin and Jackie were the bio parents).  Ross and Alan had kind of an up and down relationship over the years. Ross wanted to BE like Alan in the beginning. When he was married to Carrie they were actually close friends with Alan and Hope. Their relationship totally degraded when Alan was chasing Trish Lewis and she chose Ross instead. Yes, and he also did not approve of how Alan dealt with Phillip much of the time. So they never became friends again.
