To the best of my knowledge,the first back from the dead character may have been Matt Corby on Love of Life. He was actually Paul,Vanessa's first husband who had been killed off in the late 50's.This occurred around 1970. Around the same time on Search for Tomorrow,Sam Reynolds was thought to be dead and he resurfaced about a year later. She said Sam from Search and that it was quite shocking at the time.
