B&B: Unbold & Ugly?

B&B has been in a ratings free fall since about March 2007. The quality of the show, or lack thereof, is not helping matters, along with its small cast & crew. What happens if Susan Flannery's condition worsens? She'll either spend a bit more time away or much more time. With the state this show has been under for several years now, it will no doubt negatively impact its ratings because Flannery is the star of the show; she drives the "better" stories. Lower ratings for B&B equals lower ratings for ATWT, which in turns equals lower ratings for GL. The slide is slippery, and once it starts, it's difficult to reverse. Case in point: Another World in the 1990s.

If Bradley Bell were smart, he should offer Kay Alden and Janice Ferri Esser to head write the show, and hire new writers (particularly playwrights and novelists) & directors for the show. His writing talent, if it can be called that, is extremely underwhelming. Is Bradley Bell his own worst enemy?

Week of September 10-14, 2007

Total Viewers (Last Week/Last Year) (Same Week: 2003)

2. B&B 3,673,000 (+32,000/-390,000) (-816,000)

Total Viewers: Same Week 2003

2. B&B 4.489 million viewers

Household Ratings: 2007/Same Week 2003

2. B&B 2.8/3.3

At the rate they are going, several key crew members will eventually be burnt-out. :o

I don't see any point in your posting, sorry.

B&B is in the best shape it has in quite a while and 2007 has definitely been a very good year so far - way better than anything out in soap-land.

Those multiple directing gigs stem from B&B's taping schedule. They do 2 episodes a day and often directors stay in for two days of taping. Voilà!

But the ratings are bleeding this year

Yeah, and Y&R which is super sh*t is doing pretty good in the ratings... Your point is?

The ratings are bleeding because B&B lost its lead-in. Loyal Y&R viewers were pushed away leaving CBS daytime in free fall because those ABC/NBC refugees now watching Y&R don't like the rest of the line-up. Plus, CBS was pretty staedy in recent years whereas ABC and NBC already took the nose-dive into ratings hell.

Ratings don't equal quality and B&B has tried a lot of things to attract viewers this year; quality writing, teens, a summer concert, music; which did not work unfortunately. Still I refuse to believe that daytime TV has to be as dumb as Y&R to still find an audience.

I am not saying that b&b is bad, I am just saying that the ratings are really bleeding, and that Bell has to do something quickly!

I agree that B&B sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. However, it is still the best thing out there, out of all the soaps.

Bingo. Great post, SF!

Yay. Someone who actually seem to like B&B right now. Thank you!

Oh, I like it too! Very much so!

I think that, since Darla's Death, the show has been on top form (save from the couple of weeks where Brooke was vehemently going after Nick yet again after Sydney )

B&B is the best soap right now! Its has good stories that make sense! Ratings don't setermine if a show is good or bad.

So, RuRu, how much is Latham paying you for posting threads like this about EVERY soap BUT Y&R?

Weren't you banned once? I seem to remember someone with your exact posting style who frequently bumped older threads.

Some people never learn... <_<

And how come she can't pour that money into the hair stylists' budget instead? I haven't seen so many Bad Hair Days among the cast in my life!

Have you seen Latham's own hair? Obviously hair styling isn't a priority in her own life, yet alone in her work...

Yeah, I've seen her hair. I think she was going for the "Sangria" look, but I wouldn't quote me on that.
